Study on Species Diversity of Indigenous Mushrooms in Jeju

  • The importance of utilizing biological resources has become magnified and it has been a big issue to share the benefit among nations as Nagoya Protocol began in 2010. This study was conducted to research the diversity and distribution of wild mushrooms, and to survey the traditional mushroom knowledge of the people in Jejudo which is a volcanic island having a distinctive climate and forest environment. The research sites were Dongbaekdongsan, Keuneonggot, Hallasan National Park, Muryeongarioreum, Saryeonisupgil and other important area where mushrooms are growing spontainously in Jejudo. A total of 511 species comprising 2 phylums, 8 classes, 20 orders and 74 genera were identified from 1600 specimens collected from 2006 to 2012. In previous studies, a total of 561 species comprising 69 families and 99 genera were investigated. As a result, a total of 755 species comprising 23 orders, 87 families and 263 genera were documented in Jejudo. In this study, 137 species were newly identified as unrecorded species in Jejudo and 9 species, Amanita gemmata, Tricholoma aurantiipes, Panellus violaceofulvus, Leucopaxillus septentrionalis, Bondarzewia montana, Psilocybe argentipes, Boedijnopeziza insititia, Sarcoscypha occidentalis for. occidentalis and Morchella patula var. semilibera were the first record for Korea. Also, 7 species, Amanita gemmata, Tricoloma aurantiipes, Panellus violaceofulvus, Leucopaxillus septentrionalis, Boedijnopeziza insititia, Sarcoscypha occidentalis for. occidentalis and Morchella patula var. semilibera were known as only growing in Jejudo. The traditional knowledge was collected from visiting and questionnaire survey in 50 villages in Jejudo. A total of 23 mushrooms were found in which 12 species were used for food, 2 species were poisonous, 6 species were medicinal, 2 species were used for folk religion and 3 species were used for play purposes. Macrolepiota procera was the most commonly used as an edible mushroom and Chlorophyllum neomastoidea was the most well known poisonous mushroom. Also, 267 cases of traditional knowledge about using mushrooms as a food and medicine were collected. This study has significance for supplementing previous studies about distribution of wild mushrooms in Jejudo and documenting unrecorded species in Korea. Also, it is valuable by providing important data of traditional knowledge for using mushrooms since old times.

  • In order to elucidate the mechanism of toxic action of a pisonous mushroom, Amanita pantherina, biochemical effects of the mushroom extracts on mice were studied. A hotwater extract of Amanita pantherina injected intraperitoneally into male ICR mice evoked signs similar to those observed clinically upon acute poisoning by the mushroom and also changed the levels of component enzyme activities in blood, liver and urine. The serum cholinesterase activity was decreased significantly during 1-3 h after injection.

  • 본 연구는 2005년부터 2007년까지 충북지역 주요 버섯 자생지를 중심으로 채집을 실시하여 이들을 분류 동정하고, 이들 균주를 보존하여 버섯 유전자원 확보 및 자원화 연구의 기초자료로 활용코자 실시한 것으로 그 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 가. 야생버섯 채집균주는 총 79종으로 식용 32종, 약용 3종, 독 15종, 기타(불명) 29종 이었다. 나. 채집된 야생버섯 중 식용 28종에 대한 조직분리를 실시하였고 이중 활력이 좋은 15종의 야생균주를 선발하여 현재 저온보관중이다. 다. 표본제작은 액침표본이 많았으며, 다년생 버섯은 건조표본으로 보관하였고, 자연상태의 자생지에서 채집 균주 79종을 모두 촬영하였다.

흰가시광대버섯(Amanita virgineoides) 발생지역의 기온변화 특성 (Characteristics of temperature variation in the collection area of Amanita virgineoides)

  • 유버섯자원 개발을 위한 기초자료를 확보하기 위해용용 흰가시광대버섯(A. virgineoides)의 정점조사지역 내 발생양상과 기온의 변화양상을 조사하였다. 버섯발생전 60일간의 기온변화는 조사지역에 따라 다르게 나타났으며, 특히 발생전 20일간의 기온분포는 발생여부와 조사지역에 따라 상반되는 양상을 보였다. 흰가시광대버섯은 활물공생균으로 기온, 강수량, 상대습도 등과 같은 기상환경뿐만 아니라, 식물분포, 토양미생물, 토양유기물 등 다양한 환경요인이 자실체의 발생에 영향을 주는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 기온변화 양상만을 분석한 결과, 흰가시광대버섯의 발생과 기온과의 관련성은 조사지역별로 다른 양상을 보였으며, 흰가시광대버섯의 재배생산기술을 개발하기 위해서는 식물상과 토양환경에 대한 정밀한 조사분석을 통해 자실체발생을 좌우하는 요인의 구명이 필요하다.

  • Lampteromyces japonicus is the most popular source of mushroom poisoning in Japan. We isolated poisonous substance, illudin S, 40 years ago, which shower strong anti-tumoric activity. Its analogs are now the most hopeful anti-cancer agent. Clitocybe acromelalgia gives unique poisoning which exhibits symptoms similar to acromelalgia and erythromelalgia. We intended to isolate the toxin causing these poisoning but neuroexciatory compounds, acromelic acids A and B, were isolated. They are now known as the most potent glutamate agonists and good reagents for the study of the glutamate receptor of a neurocell.

  • 한국에 야생하는 독버섯의 하나인 노란다발버섯을 물로 가열 추출한 후 추출액에 3배의 에탄올을 첨가하여 고분자 물질을 침전시켰으며 이를 다시 투석하여 정제 하였다. 이것을 냉동 건조하여 분말을 얻었으며 60mg/kg 용량을 백서의 복강내에 주사 하였던 바, 6일 후 부터 사망하기 시작하여 7일째에는 7마리중 4마리가 절명하였다. 이 유독 성분을 "네마톡신"이라 명명하고자 한다.

An Elderly Man with Fatal Respiratory Failure after Eating a Poisonous Mushroom Podostroma cornu-damae

  • A 73-year-old, previously healthy man presented with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth and febrile sensation 3 hours after eating boiled wild mushrooms. After admission, he showed progressive severe respiratory distress, pancytopenia, azotemia, hypotension, hypoxemia and consolidation of the entire left lung on chest radiography. With a preliminary diagnosis of necrotizing pneumonia, he underwent left pneumonectomy in order to remove all necrotic lung tissue. Lung histology showed extensive hemorrhagic necrosis, massive inflammatory cell infiltration, prominent proliferation of young fibroblasts and the formation of an early-stage hyaline membrane along the alveolar wall. Despite aggressive treatment, including mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy and administration of granulocyte colony stimulating factor and broad spectrum antibiotics, he died on hospitalization day 13. Subsequently, the mushroom was identified as Podostroma cornu-damae. This is the first case of a histological evidence of lung involvement by Podostroma cornu-damae poisoning in Korea.

  • Data used for this analysis were 281 outbreaks of food poisoning, excluding single cases, reported during 1981-1989. Patient size of 10 persons or less occupied 38.0% of the out breaks. The most frequently isolated bacterial pathogen was Vibrio, 35.4% ; followed by Salmonella, 27.2% ; Staphylococcus , 17.7% ; Escherichia coli , 17.7%. Plant toxin occupied 64% of poisonous substances. Sixty-six percent of food poisoning reported in urban area resulted from meals consumed in food consumed at home. Raw and under-cooked seafoods were the major cousative foods in food service establishments. Pork which frequently serviced at home ceremonies wes the major causative food in rural area. Mushroom poisoning generally occurred during regular meals at home.

한국의 고등균류의 성분 연구 (Studies on the Constituents of the Higher Fungi of Korea)

  • In order to detect poisonous or physiologically active constituents in the Higher Fungi growing in Korea, forty three species including two varieties were collected in Kyung Ki and Chung Cheong Buk Do Provinces and subjected to systematic extraction with two kinds of organic solvents. The extracts were examined for alkaloid by adding alkaloid reagents. Of these fungi, three species, Geaster fimbriatus, Lampteromyces japonicus and Pseudocolus schellenbergiae, gave positive confirmatory tests.

한려해상국립공원 인근 지역에서의 야생버섯에 대한 전통 지식 (Traditional Knowledge on Wild Mushrooms in the Surrounding Villages Hallyeo-Haesang National Park)

  • 본 연구는 한려해상국립공원 인근의 경남지역의 야생버섯에 대한 전통지식을 조사하였다. 자료는 총 53개 마을에서 50~90대까지 145명 주민들의 면담을 통해 수집하였다. 총 19개 야생버섯이 식용버섯으로 사용되었는데 싸리버섯이 식용버섯으로 가장 널리 이용되었고, 큰갓버섯과 표고 순위로 식용하였다. 표고는 식 약용버섯으로 유일하게 사용되었다. 독흰갈대버섯은 독버섯인데 곤충퇴치용 버섯으로 사용하고 있었다. 가장 다양한 버섯이 증언된 지역은 거제시 일운면으로 10종에 이르는 버섯의 전통지식이 확인되었고, 하동군의 진교면에서 8종이 출현하였다. 전통 지식에 대해 조사에 응한 여성이 남성에 비해 2배 이상 많이 증언하였고 연령층은 70~80대가 가장 많았다.
