  • This paper is a study on an optical bench satisfying stiffness and thermal pointing error requirements for LEO earth observation satellite. According to shape and stiffness requirements, optical bench type 1 is designed. Because type 1 does not satisfy the thermal pointing error requirement, an optical bench type 2 is suggested. Although the type 2 has better results than type 1, it still does not meet the thermal pointing error requirement. Using the results of optical bench type 1&2, the optical bench type 3 is finally designed, which satisfies both the stiffness and thermal pointing error requirements.

  • Study on the thermal pointing error analysis for optical bench was performed in this paper. Spacecraft FEM is necessary to conduct thermal pointing error analysis for optical bench. But generally during the preliminary design, exact spacecraft FEM does not exist. So the analysis method to predict thermal pointing error of spacecraft is necessary without exact spacecraft FEM. In this study, these analysis techniques are described.

  • Image chain analysis of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite is one of the primary activities for satellite design because SAR image quality depends on spacecraft bus performance as well as SAR payload. Especially, satellite pointing and stability error make worst effect on the original SAR image quality which is implemented by SAR payload design. In this research, Image chain analysis S/W was developed in order to analyze the SAR image quality degradation due to satellite pointing and stability error. This S/W consists of orbit model, attitude control model, SAR payload model, clutter model, and SAR processor. SAR raw data, which includes total 25 point targets in the scene of $5km{\times}5km$ swath width, was generated and then processed for analysis. High resolution mode (spotlight), of which resolution is 1m, was applied. The results of image chain analysis show that radiometric accuracy is the most degraded due to the pointing error. Therefore, the successful design of attitude control subsystem in spacecraft bus for enhancing the pointing accuracy is most important for image quality.

  • A bistatic radar using the pulse chasing can detect a target to track successive transmitted pulses using a receive beam for effectively scanning the cosite search area. When tracking a transmitted pulse with the receive beam, some beam pointing errors within pulse-to-pulse can cause the timing error in received pulse and the variation of the signal strength. In this paper, we have proposed that some errors due to the receive beam pointing error could limit the MTI filter's performance and derived that the relationship between the MTI performance and the geometric factors which are the inherent properties in bistatic configuration. Through the simulation, we have considered the limitations of the improvement performance restricted by the receiving beam pointing error and confirmed the contribution to the performance improvement in maintaining the receiving beam pointing error of under 0.5 degrees.

  • LEO Satellite that observes earth with optical camera or synthetic aperture radar is placed at hundreds of kilometers altitude and undergoes severe thermal load. The thermal deformation of structure by the thermal load makes payload not to point toward wanted ground position. The payload pointing direction change by thermal distortion is called thermal pointing error. This is carried out by 3 steps that are thermal analysis, temperature conversion and structural analysis. In this paper, the possibility of successful mission through thermal pointing error analysis is described.

  • This paper presents neural network based controller using the feedback error loaming technique for a heavy load pointing system. Also the mathematical model was developed to analyze heavy load pointing system. The control scheme consists of a feedforward neural network controller and a fixed-gain feedback controller. This neural network controller is trained so as to make the output of the feedback controller zero. The proposed controller is compared with the conventional PI controller through simulations, and the results show that the pointing accuracy of the proposed control system are improved against the disturbance induced by vehicle running on the bump course.

  • Satellite structure is distorted by thermal load in orbit. The structural distortion induces the pointing errors of observation unit that is difference between initial pointing direction at ground integration and at in-orbit. In that case, satellite is not able to point along required direction. As observation capability becomes higher, structural distortion due to thermal load should be smaller to achieve successful mission. In this paper, the method to predict pointing error and results are described.

  • EOTS(Electro-Optical Tracking System) provides stabilized images while tracking a moving target. The key of geo-pointing is the function that fixes EOTS's sight to a specific position(geo-point) throughout aircraft maneuvers. In this paper, a major error source for the geo-pointing is identified as the transport delay of navigation information, and an augmented Kalman filter is designed to estimate the present attitude of aircraft using delayed navigation information. Simulation results including the presented scheme shows that the error due to the information transport delay reduces under half.

  • This paper is a study on the blade-type optical bench satisfying stiffness and thermal pointing error requirements for earth observation satellite. According to shape requirements, optical bench is designed. Because it does not satisfy the stiffness requirement, the stiffener is added on the outer/inner area of optical bench. But it does not meet the thermal pointing error requirement. So symmetrical structure is suggested with platform support structure attached on the upper/lower part of platform. Although it has better value than previous case, it still does not meet the thermal pointing error requirement. Based on the results of prior cases, optical bench finally designed, which satisfied both the stiffness and thermal pointing error requirements. Next conclusions follow from this design. It is efficient to increase thickness of platform facesheet, add stiffener and increase blade number to raise stiffness. It is effective to connect component consisting of same material and design optical bench having symmetrical structure to lower thermal pointing error.

  • Atmospheric effects on laser beam propagation can be broken down into two categories: attenuation of the laser power and fluctuation of laser power due to laser beam deformation. Attenuation consists of scattering of the laser light photons by the fog. Laser beam deformation occurs because of small-scale dynamic changes in the index of refraction of the atmosphere. This causes pointing error. In order to analyse these effect on optical wireless communication system, in this paper uses cassegrain optics as a transmitting and receiving telescope, AID as a detecting device and ill as a light source. The signal modulating and demodulating method is a IM/DD. I show the effects of fog and pointing error and calculate the possible communication distance for BER is $10^{-9}$.
