  • This paper presents the design and implementation of a wind-solar hybrid power system for LED street lighting and an isolated power system. The proposed system consists of photovoltaic modules, a wind generator, a storage system (battery), LED lighting, and the controller, which can manage the power and system operation. This controller has the functions of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for the wind and solar power, effective charging/discharging for the storage system, LED dimming control for saving energy, and remote data logging for monitoring the performance and maintenance. The proposed system was analyzed in regard to the operation status of the hybrid input power and the battery voltage using a PSIM simulation. In addition, the characteristics of the proposed system's output were analyzed through experimental verification. A prototype was also developed which uses 300[W] of wind power, 200[W] of solar power, 60[W] LED lighting, and a 24[V]/80[Ah] battery. The control system principles and design scheme of the hardware and software are presented.

  • The off-state impedance of LED signal head is greater than that of a traditional bulb signal head, and the traffic controller has inherent off-state output leakage current. These two characteristics make the field trouble and reduce signal safety when the LED signal head is installed with traffic controller. In this Paper, a complement method of the LED signal head and traffic controller local standard (220vac line voltage) for improving signal safety is suggested. The point of designed complement method is to reduce the output leakage current of the traffic controller under 3mA, to increase the voltage feedback threshold to $70{\pm}5V$, and to make LED signal head maintain off-state in 0-95vac with 10Kohm maximum impedance.

  • In this study, Exit light installed in offices, malls, hospitals, and factories were analyzed to analyze the luminance performance of CCFL and LED light sources. In addition, fire protection products with electrical characteristics such as Exit light may change their performance due to ambient temperature, humidity, and dust. So it was extracted by installation place and analyzed its characteristics. As a result of the experiment, Exit light for CCFL type showed the value of 'ratio of luminance 2' for large, medium and small. Considering that the reference value was 'lower than 9', the value was very good and it can be seen that there is almost no change in ratio of luminance due to aging. The Exit light for LED type showed a value of 'ratio of luminance 5', which means that the light on the display surface is not uniform. In addition, there was almost no change in ratio of luminance due to ageing, but the ratio of luminance was larger than Exit light for LED type. This is an unsatisfactory result from a visual point of view. To improve this, it is necessary to disperse the light of LED light source and strengthen the regulation on ratio of luminance.

  • The existing vessels lighting control system has several problems, which are complexity of construction and high cost of establishment and maintenance. In this paper, We designed low cost and high performance lighting control system at digital vessel environment. We proposed a system which recognize the user's emotions after obtaining the biological informations about user's bio information(pulse sensor, blood pressure sensor, blood sugar sensor etc) through wireless sensors controls the LED Lights. This system classified emotions using backpropagation algorithm. We chose 3,000 data sets to train the backpropagation algorithm. As a result, obtained about 88.7% accuracy. And the classified emotions find the most appropriate point in the method of controlling the waves or frequencies to the red, green, blue LED Lamp comparing with the 20-color-emotion models in the HP's 'The meaning of color' and control the brightness or contrast of the LED Lamp. In this method, the system saved about 20% of the electricity consumed.

  • Door Inside Lamp of railway rolling stock is installed on interior of the side doors and illuminated at door opening and closing, isolation and fault. So drivers or passengers can notice the door status visually. In the past, a single color or Bi-color LED Lamps have been using and one ~ multiple lamp was used to implement the feature according to client's requirements. (Example: Total of between 2 and 4 lamps are required for the Warning / Emergency operation / Isolation / Fault.) However these design is not easy to apply if there is the mounting space restrictions and the problems such as rising costs can be caused. In addition, it has vulnerability from point of view aesthetic aspects. Therefore the lamp type has been required that has small size and number of colors in order to resolve these problems. Recently multi LED type door status indication lamp have been developed that can meet the requirements and this lamp has been applied in many railway projects. In this study, I'll introduce the general characteristics and mechanical & electrical characteristics of multi LED type door status indication lamp to help development of this kinds of lamp.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive FEC scheme in visible light communication using white LED. To this end, we investigate the red, green and blue mixing ratio of white LED in order to achieve the white color, and the mixing ratio of those wavelength can be defined as 4 types. Based on those properties, the FEC technique is applied to the wavelength band with the lowest mixing ratio according to mixing ratio types. At that point, we use a LDPC channel coding scheme as the FEC technique. Therefore, the proposed system can mitigate the reduction of data rate and improve total BER performance.

  • This paper presents a current-balancing circuit for security lights that uses parallel-connected LEDs. The parallel connection of LEDs causes current differences between the LED strings because of characteristic deviations. These differences can reduce the lifespan of a particular point of LEDs by thermal spotting. They can also cause non-uniform luminance of the lighting device. Among the different methods for solving these problems, the method using current-balancing transformers makes it easy to compensate for current differences and it has a simple circuitry. However, while the balancing transformer has been applied to AC light sources, LEDs operate on a DC source, so the driving circuitry and the design method have to be changed and their performances must be verified. Thus in this paper, a design method of the balancing transformer network and the driving circuitry for LEDs is proposed. The proposed design method could have a smaller size than the conventional design method. The proposed circuitry is applied to three types of 100-watt LED security lights, which use different LEDs. Experimental results are presented to verify the performance of the designed driving circuits.

  • In this paper, development and tests of a real-time eye-tracker system are discussed. The tracker system tracks a user's gaze point through movement of eyes by means of vision-based pupil detection. The vision-based method has an advantage of detecting the exact positions of user's eyes. An infrared camera and a LED are used to acquire a user's pupil image and to extract pupil region, which was hard to extract with software only, from the obtained image, respectively. We develop a pupil-tracking algorithm with Kalman filter and grab the pupil images by using DSP(Digital Signal Processing) system for real-time image processing technique. The real-time eye-tracker system tracks the movements of user's pupils to project their gaze point onto a background image.

  • Objectives: This study investigated the microhardness, flexural strength, and color stability of bleach-shade resin composites cured with 3 different light-curing units. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro experimental study, 270 samples were fabricated of bleach and A2 shades of 3 commercial resin composites (Point 4, G-aenial Anterior, and Estelite Sigma Quick). Samples (n = 5 for each trial) were cured with Bluephase N, Woodpecker LED.D, and Optilux 501 units and underwent Vickers microhardness and flexural strength tests. The samples were tested after 24 hours of storage in distilled water. Color was assessed using a spectrophotometer immediately after preparation and 24 hours after curing. Data were analyzed using 3-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test (p ≤ 0.001). Results: Samples cured with Optilux exhibited the highest and those cured with LED.D exhibited the lowest microhardness (p = 0.023). The bleach shade of Point 4 composite cured with Optilux displayed the highest flexural strength, while the same composite and shade cured with Sigma Quick exhibited the lowest (p ≤ 0.001). The color change after 24 hours was greatest for the bleach shade of G-aenial cured with Bluephase N and least for the A2 shade of Sigma Quick cured with Optilux (p ≤ 0.001). Conclusions: Light curing with polywave light-emitting diode (LED) yielded results between or statistically similar to those of quartz-tungsten-halogen and monowave LED in the microhardness and flexural strength of both A2 and bleach shades of resin composites. However, the brands of light-curing devices showed significant differences in color stability.
