Form Finding of a Single-layered Pneumatic Membrane Structures by Using Nonlinear Force Method (비선형 내력법을 이용한 단일 공기막의 형상 탐색)

  • This study aims to develop a form-finding algorithm for a single-layered pneumatic membrane. The initial shape of this pneumatic membrane, which is an air-supported type pneumatic membrane, is to find a state in which a given initial tension and internal pneumatic pressure are in equilibrium. The algorithm developed to satisfy these conditions is that a nonlinear optimization problem based on the force method considering the deformed shape is formulated, and, it's able to find the shape by iteratively repeating the process of obtaining a solution of the governing equations. An computational technique based on the Gauss-Newton method was used as a method for obtaining solutions of nonlinear equations. In order to verify the validity of the proposed form-finding algorithm, a single-curvature pneumatic membrane example and a double-curvature air pneumatic membrane example were adopted, respectively. In the results of these examples, it was possible to well observe the step-by-step convergence process of the shape of the pneumatic membrane, and it was also possible to confirm the change in shape according to the air pressure. In addition, the calculation results of the shape and internal force after deformation due to initial tension, air pressure, and self-weight were obtained.

  • The Electrostatic Inkjet system has many applications in cost and time effective manufacturing of printed electronics like RFIDs, OLEDs and flexible displays etc. This paper presents pneumatic ink supply system for an electrohydrodynamic deposition (EHD) setup for the precise pressure control to produce a small amount of discharge at the end of the capillary. The meniscus shape depends upon the applied pneumatic pressure to the ink supply system. Furthermore, this paper also compares meniscus shapes at different applied pneumatic pressures. It is concluded that patterning of constant line-width can be achieved better by controlling the meniscus shape using this technique.

  • Pneumatic system is widely applied to ground facility and launcher on-board system. The main requirements of pneumatic system is to meet pressure and flow requirements of gas consumers. For launcher related applications, different from other applications, very high flow is required which can leads to supply pressure drop against required setting pressure. The supply pressure decrease is closely related to regulator characteristics. In this paper, the characteristics of pneumatic regulator related to supply pressure decrease and the control methods for reducing the pressure offset are reviewed.

  • The design of non-pneumatic tires, which are created by filling the space between the wheel and the tread with elastomeric compounds or polygonal spokes, has become an important research topic in the automotive and aerospace industries. In this study, a system was designed for the design of non-pneumatic tires through the implementation of a generative adversarial network. We specifically examined factors that could impact the design, including the type of non-pneumatic tire, its intended usage environment, manufacturing techniques, distinctions from pneumatic tires, and how spoke design affects load distribution. Using OpenCV, various shapes and spoke configurations were generated as images, and a GAN model was trained on the projected GANs to generate shapes and spokes for non-pneumatic tire designs. The designed non-pneumatic tires were labeled as available or not, and a Vision Transformer image classification AI model was trained on these labels for classification purposes. Evaluation of the classification model show convergence to a near-zero loss and a 99% accuracy rate confirming the generation of non-pneumatic tire designs.

  • For pneumatic valve system control, we need a serial data transmission system with high speed and reliability for information interchange between main computer and I/O devices. This paper presents a set of design techniques for a data communication system that is mainly used for pneumatic valve system control. For this purpose, we first designed hardware modules for an interface between central control module and local node that handles the operation of solenoid control valves. in addition, we developed a communication protocol for construction of rs-485 based multi-drop network and this protocol is basically designed with a kind of polling technique. Finally we evaluated performance of the developed system. the field test results show that, even under high noise environment, the data transmission of 375kbps rate is possible up to 1,500meter without using repeater. In addition, the system developed in this research is easily to be extended for a communication network because of its modular structure.

  • Pneumatic system has been mainly used as main equipment for actuation and control of compressed air force in manufacturing industry, pneumatic circuit for the most part is used in Meter-Out circuit. Meter-Out circuit method is Flow Control Valve to fit in exhaust part of cylinder port. In the reverse, Meter-In circuit is Flow Control Valve to fit in input part of cylinder port. This study examines the dynamic characteristics comparison of Meter-In and Meter-Out Circuits in the pneumatic circuits. The results of the experimental research are obtained to the followings: i ) System Response is Meter-In Circuit more than Meter-Out one before cushion zone. ii) we conjectured that the collision of piston and head cover is ease to collide Meter-In Circuit more than Meter-Out one at the stroke end part.

  • PGO(Powered Gait Orthosis) mounted with pneumatic muscle as an actuator is upgraded model from RGO(Replicate Gait Orthosis) for paraplegia patients to walk easy and safe. Pneumatic muscles supply powers to both hip joint during PGO gait. The objective of this research is to develop the PGO gait simulation model. Dynamic model of PGO linkage system is processed. Mathematical model of pneumatic muscle was developed and combined it with PGO linkage system. Developed simulation model will be used as a tool for evaluation of the efficiency of pneumatic muscle and for analysis the PGO system.

  • Conventional method for electrode force application in resistance spot welding(RSW) processes is to use pneumatic cylinder. However, due to its inherent problems in pneumatic power system such as compressibility of air and poor transient response characteristics, new electrode force system with servo control are recently introduced in RSW machine. This machine is called “servogun”. The purpose of this study is to evaluate performance of servogun in case of spot welding of aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloy(A5052) sheets are spot welded using pneumatic gun and servogun. Both results are compared by means of macro cross-section etching test and tensile shear strength test. Numerous previous research have reported nugget with many voids and cracks are not uncommon defects in spot welds with aluminum alloy. The experimental results show similar defects in case of pneumatic gun. In contrast, use of servogun considerably reduced generation of voids and cracks. In case of step-wise increased forging force at the end of welding cycle with servogun, crack-free and void-free nuggets have been observed. The performance of servogun has been also verified by series of tensile shear test. Higher strength values have been achieved with servogun in comparison to that of pneumatic gun.

  • Drawing pneumatic circuits by hand and searching for the error when the circuit is not properly constructed are very difficult. In this paper, a graphic simulation program for drawing and evaluating pneumatic circuit systems was developed. The porgram is menu-driven style and pneumatic circuit can be easily drawn by selecting the pneumatic components from the menus. Simulation of the motion of each pneumatic component and testing of whether the circuit is constructed properly are possible with the software. This program was written in Turbo Pascal and also used the Turbo Graphix Toolbox. The system hardware requires IBM PC, XT, AT or compatibles, and Hercules Card.
