Multi-hop Packet Relay MAC Protocol Considering Channel Conditions in UWB-based WPANs (UWB 기반의 WPAN에서 채널 상태를 고려한 다중 홉 중계 방식의 MAC 프로토콜)

  • Ultra wide band (UWB) technology will be applied in the high rare wireless personal area networks (WPANs) for its high rate, low power, and innate immunity to multipath fading. In this paper, a power aware multi-hop packet relay MAC protocol in UWB based WPANs is proposed and a power aware path status factor (PAPSF), which is derived from SINR and power resource condition of each device, is used to select a suitable relay node. Compared with relaying by piconet coordinator (PNC), which is easily chosen by other ad hoc routing protocol, the new scheme can achieve hi임or throughput, decrease the time required for transmitting high power signal and we can easily distribute the battery power consumption from PNC to other devices in the piconet to prevent the PNC device using up its battery too fast and finally avoid PNC handover too frequently.

Exact BER Analysis of Physical Layer Network Coding for Two-Way Relay Channels (물리 계층 네트워크 코딩을 이용한 양방향 중계 채널에서의 정확한 BER 분석)

  • Physical layer network coding (PNC) was first introduce by Zhang et al. for two-way relay channels (TWRCs). By utilizing the PNC, we can complete two-way communications within two time slots, instead of three time slots required in non-PNC systems. Recently, the upper and lower bounds for a bit error rate (BER) of PNC have been analyzed for fading channels. In this paper, we derive an exact BER of the PNC for the TWRC over fading channels. We determine decision regions based on the nearest neighbor rule and partition them into several wedge areas to apply the Craig's polar coordinate form for computing the BER. We confirm that our derived analysis accurately matches with the simulation results.

Current Status and Factors Affecting Prenatal Care by Married Immigrant Women (결혼이민여성의 산전관리 실태와 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting prenatal care (PNC) by married immigrant women. Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of "Reproductive Health Status of Married Immigrant Women and Policy Directions in Korea" by the Korea Institute for Health & Social Affairs. The participants were 727 married immigrant women from Asia. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test and logistic regression with SPSS 14.0. Results: Of the 727 women interviewed, 91.7% visited prenatal clinic. However, first time for PNC was late and total number of PNC was lower (9.07) than the average of Korean women. Timing and number of PNC in rural area were later and fewer than those in urban area. PNC by these women was significantly lower in those who had lived in Korea longer and for those who the employed. However, PNC was significantly higher in those who attended health education during pregnancy and had not experienced premature delivery. Those who attended health education during pregnancy (OR=2.84, CI=1.49~5.40) or were unemployed (OR=0.51, CI=0.26~0.99) were more likely to have PNC. Conclusion: These findings illustrate the need to strengthen the public information and provide special services to their demands about PNC for married immigrant women.

The Design of Polynomial Network Pattern Classifier based on Fuzzy Inference Mechanism and Its Optimization (퍼지 추론 메커니즘에 기반 한 다항식 네트워크 패턴 분류기의 설계와 이의 최적화)

  • In this study, Polynomial Network Pattern Classifier(PNC) based on Fuzzy Inference Mechanism is designed and its parameters such as learning rate, momentum coefficient and fuzzification coefficient are optimized by means of Particle Swarm Optimization. The proposed PNC employes a partition function created by Fuzzy C-means(FCM) clustering as an activation function in hidden layer and polynomials weights between hidden layer and output layer. Using polynomials weights can help to improve the characteristic of the linear classification of basic neural networks classifier. In the viewpoint of linguistic analysis, the proposed classifier is expressed as a collection of "If-then" fuzzy rules. Namely, architecture of networks is constructed by three functional modules that are condition part, conclusion part and inference part. The condition part relates to the partition function of input space using FCM clustering. In the conclusion part, a polynomial function caries out the presentation of a partitioned local space. Lastly, the output of networks is gotten by fuzzy inference in the inference part. The proposed PNC generates a nonlinear discernment function in the output space and has the better performance of pattern classification as a classifier, because of the characteristic of polynomial based fuzzy inference of PNC.

The Influence of Efficient Container Terminals Using DEA and SNA (DEA와 SNA를 이용한 효율적인 컨테이너 터미널의 영향력에 관한 연구)

  • This study selected container terminals of Gwangyang and Busan Ports to evaluate the influence of efficient container terminals. For the study, after data envelopment analysis (DEA) using the CCR and BCC models, the decision-making unit (DMU) system was used to define nodes; and with the use of a reference group in DEA (BCC model) and a lambda value, this study created a social network and analyzed the influences of efficient DMUs through a centrality analysis of eigenvectors. The results are presented as follows: First, as a result of the DEA, CCR efficiencies in PNC, HJNC, and HPNT container terminals of Busan Port were 1 and BCC efficiencies at Singamman Terminal, Wooam Terminal, PNC, HJNC, HPNT, and BNCT container terminals of Busan Port were 1. Second, as a result of undertaking social network analysis (SNA), according to an eigenvector centrality analysis, HJNC Terminal was referred to the most (influence score of 0.515), which indicates that it is the most influential as a container terminal. The influence of PNC Terminal was 0.512, while that of Wooam Terminal was 0.379. CJ Korea Express in Gwangyang Port was ranked fourth in influence, but its influence score of 0.256 indicates that it was the most influential of the container terminals at Gwangyang Port.

Detection of Pyrazinamide-Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis is by PCR-SSCP of pncA Gene (pncA 유전자 PCR-SSCP법을 이용한 결핵균 Pyrazinamide 내성의 진단)

  • Background : Recently the incidence of tuberculosis is increasing in many countries and control of the disease is further threatened by the emergence of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. So rapid detection of drug resistance is very important. Pyrazinamide (PZA) is a first-line chemotherapeutic agent for tuberculosis. Now in Korea, we perform PZase activity test instead of actual pyrazinamide susceptibility test for the detection of PZA resistant M. tuberculosis. Recently the pncA gene, encoding the PZase of M. tuberculosis, was completely sequenced. And it was reported that the mutation of pncA gene would be associated with PZA resistance of M. tuberculosis. Therefore we performed this study to evaluate the possibility for the rapid detection of PZA resistant M. tuberculosis using PCR-SSCP of pncA gene. Method : 44 cultured clinical isolates of M. tuberculosis, BCG Tokyo strain. BCG French strain, and one M. bovis isolate were studied. We used H37Rv as the reference strain, The PZase activity test was done at the reference laboratory of Korean Tuberculosis Institute. DNA was extracted by bead-beater method and 561 bp fragment including pncA gene was amplified by PCR. The PCR product were digested by BstB I enzyme. SSCP was done using MDE gel. Of the 44 strains of M. tuberculosis, 22 strains were PZase-positive and other 22 strains were PZase negative. Results : Of the 22 PZase positive strains, 18 strains(82%) showed the same mobility compared with that of H37Rv and 4(18%) showed different mobility. Of the 22 PZase-negative strains, 19(86%) strains showed the same mobility pattern compared with that of H37Rv and 3(14%) showed different mobility. Naturally PZA-resistant BeG-French strain, BCG-Tokyo strain, and one M. bovis isolate showed the same band pattern each other, but their mobility were different from that of H37Rv. The results of PZase activity test and PCR-SSCP of pncA of M. tuberculosis were statistically significantly correlated each other (p<0.01). Conclusion : The PCR-SSCP after BstB I restriction of pncA gene of M. tuberculosis may be a useful method for the rapid detection of PZA-resistant M. tuberculosis.

Single Relay Selection for Bidirectional Cooperative Networks with Physical-Layer Network Coding

  • To serve the growing demand of the bidirectional information exchange, we propose a single relay selection (RS) scheme for physical-layer network coding (PNC) in a bidirectional cooperative network consisting of two sources and multiple relays. This RS scheme selects a single best relay by maximizing the bottleneck of the capacity region of both information flows in the bidirectional network. We show that the proposed RS rule minimizes the outage probability and that it can be used as a performance benchmark for any RS rules with PNC. We derive a closed-form exact expression of the outage probability for the proposed RS rule and show that it achieves full diversity gain. Finally, numerical results demonstrate the validity of our analysis.

  • Catalytic enzyme Pyrazinamidase (PncA) from Mycobacterium tuberculosis can hydrolyze substrate pyrazinamide (PZA) to pyrazoic acid (POA) as active form of compound. Using NMR spectroscopy, pH-dependent catalytic properties were monitored including metal binding mode during converting PZA to POA. There seems to be a conformational change through zinc binding in active site from the perturbation of peak intensities in series of 2D HSQC spectra the conformation changes through zinc binding.

  • In wireless personal area networks (WPANs), the successful design of channel time allocation algorithm is a key factor in guaranteeing the various quality of service (QoS) requirements for the stringent real-time constraints of multimedia services. In this paper we propose a channel time allocation algorithm for achieving a high quality transmission and high channel error tolerance of MPEG stream in the IEEE 802.15.3 high-rate wireless PANs. Our algorithm exploits the characteristics of MPEG stream. When a new MPEG stream arrives, a DEV models it by the traffic envelope and delivers the traffic envelope to the piconet coordinator (PNC) along with the channel time request. The PNC performs channel time allocation according to the envelope. Performance of the proposed scheme is investigated by simulation and analysis. Our results show that compared to conventional scheme, the proposed scheme is very effective and provides a good performance under typical channel error conditions.
