A 50 ㎾ phosphoric acid fuel cell(PAFC) system using natural gas was simulated for steady state with the commercial software, ASPEN PLUS. The USER block and the FORTRAN block were prepared to simulate the cell. The changes of hydrogen yield according to the variation of several operating conditions were examined and the operating conditions to maximize hydrogen yield were obtained. The simulation results agree with the real data, which can be used to prepare the basic process data and the optimal conditions for the domestic commercial fuel cell system. H$_2$utilization rate over 50% should be maintained to achieve the efficiency of the conventional electricity generation. Energy consumption can be reduced by utilizing the heat released from the reformer and the cell which are operated at high temperatures.
A high-voltage power supply has been built for activation of the brain via stimulation using a Full Wave Cockroft-Walton Circuit (FWCW). A resonant half-bridge inverter was applied (with half plus/half minus DC voltage) through a bidirectional power transistor to a magnetic stimulation device with the capability of producing a variety of pulse forms. The energy obtained from the previous stage runs the transformer and FW-CW, and the current pulse coming from the pulse-forming circuit is transmitted to a stimulation coil device. In addition, the residual energy in each circuit will again generate stimulation pulses through the transformer. In particular, the bidirectional device modifies the control mode of the stimulation coil to which the current that exceeds the rated current is applied, consequently controlling the output voltage as a constant current mode. Since a serial resonant half-bridge has less switching loss and is able to reduce parasitic capacitance, a device, which can simultaneously change the charging voltage of the energy-storage condenser and the pulse repetition rate, could be implemented. Image processing of the brain activity was implemented using a graphical user interface (GUI) through a data mining technique (data mining) after measuring the vital signs separated from the frequencies of EEG and ECG spectra obtained from the pulse stimulation using a 90S8535 chip (AMTEL Corporation).
IGCC (Integrated Coal Gasification Combined Cycle) is a technology that generates electric power using coal gasification and gasified fuel. Carbon conversion value of IGCC is higher and the influence on the environment is lower than the pulverized coal power plant. Especially, in the nations where the weight of fossil fuel for power generation is remarkably high like in Korea, IGCC stands out as an alternative plan to cope with sudden limitation for the emissions. In this paper, system design study for the commercial IGCC system which the introduction is imminent to Korea was performed. Two cases of entrained gasification process are adapted, one is FHR(full heat recovery) type IGCC system for high efficiency and the other is Quench type IGCC system for low cost. System simulations using common codes like AspenPlus were performed for each system. In the case of Quench system, system option study and sensitivity analysis of the air extraction rate was performed. Thermal performance result for the FHR system is 42.6% (HHV, Net) and for the quench system is 40% (HHV, net) when 75% air is extracted.

In this study, we chose the rural house as a standard model. In order to review the energy difference of cooling and heating loads, we changed the thermal transmittance standards. By using the thermal transmittance standard in 2011 as the Basic CASE, the thermal transmittance standard in 2013 as well as 2016, and the thermal transmittance standard of passive houses, we compared the results with regard to the cooling and heating energy load. Because of the heat loss, it can be confirmed that with an improved thermal performance of the building structure, the maximum increase of the cooling energy load was 36 kWh from June to September. Because of the heat loss, it was also confirmed that with the improved thermal performance of a building structure, the maximum decrease of the heating energy load is 1,498 kWh from November to April. Even though the heat loss of the building structure could decrease the cooling energy load by improving thermal transmittance standards in Korea, the energy saving performance is worse than the situation of heating energy load in heating period. Compared with CASE 1 and CASE 2, as well as CASE 1 and CASE 3, we CASE 3 was found to have the best energy saving rate when compared to the other cases : CASE 3 increased by 1,452 kWh and CASE 2 by 588 kWh, because the window thermal transmittance standard of 2016 was added.
A few high-mass X-ray binaries-consisting of an OB star plus compact companion-have been observed by Fermi and ground-based Cerenkov telescopes like High Energy Stereoscopic System (HESS) to be sources of very high energy (VHE; up to 30 TeV) ${\gamma}$-rays. This paper focuses on the prominent ${\gamma}$-ray source, LS 5039, which consists of a massive O6.5V star in a 3.9-day-period, mildly elliptical ($e{\approx}0.24$) orbit with its companion, assumed here to be an unmagnetized compact object (e.g., black hole). Using three dimensional smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations of the Bondi-Hoyle accretion of the O-star wind onto the companion, we find that the orbital phase variation of the accretion follows very closely the simple Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton (BHL) rate for the local radius and wind speed. Moreover, a simple model, wherein intrinsic emission of ${\gamma}$-rays is assumed to track this accretion rate, reproduces quite well Fermi observations of the phase variation of ${\gamma}$-rays in the energy range 0.1-10 GeV. However for the VHE (0.1-30 TeV) radiation observed by the HESS Cerenkov telescope, it is important to account also for photon-photon interactions between the ${\gamma}$-rays and the stellar optical/UV radiation, which effectively attenuates much of the strong emission near periastron. When this is included, we find that this simple BHL accretion model also quite naturally fits the HESS light curve, thus making it a strong alternative to the pulsar-wind-shock models commonly invoked to explain such VHE ${\gamma}$-ray emission in massive-star binaries.
Automatic Operation based on ATO (Automatic Train Operation) is necessary for driverless Light Rail Transit business. When this kind of driverless LRT operation plan is made, TPS (Train Performance Simulation) is traditionally simulated at all-out mode and coasting mode based on manual operation. Commercial schedule speed equals to all-out speed minus $9{\sim}15%$ make-up margin. Coasting mode TPS simulation is also run at commercial schedule speed to calculate run time and energy consumption. But TPS based on manual operation should make an improvement on accuracy in case of driverless LRT operation Plan. In this paper, new fast mode TPS simulation using ATO pattern is proposed and show near actual ATO result. The actual ATO pattern can be accurately simulated with the introduction of 4 parameters such as commercial braking rate, jerk, station stop profile and grade converted distance. Normal mode TPS simulation for commercial schedule speed can be designed to have fast mode trip time plus 3 seconds/km margin recommended by korean standard LRT specification.
In order to evaluate the effect of lipids on the utilization of the energy and protein of the diet, the isocaloric and isoprotein diets added with mutton fat, tallow, and lecithin at the levels of two percent and five percent were prepared. The growth of chicken and the feed efficiency were observed on hatched chicken which were fed a commercial diet for the first week, with starters for the next four weeks, and with finisher diets for the last three weeks respectively during the eight weeks of the experiment. Growth rate, feed efficiency, and average body weight gain per day were similar among the chicken fed diets containing various lipids or at the levels of two percent and five percent. The metabolize energy of the diets was found to be from 2.713 kcal to 3.059 kcal per gram, and the metabolizability of the gross energy was from 62 percent to 70 percent. Also the metabolizability of basal diet was higher as compared with the diets containing lipids. And the lower energy utiliztion was found in the broilers fed diets containing five percent lipids than those of two percent, showing not significant difference between them. Daily matabolizable energy of three week old brids ranged from 0.631 gr to 0.738 gr, which showed an increasing tendency on the birds fed five percent mutton fat and tallow in comparison with those of two percent. But the lecithin brought about a reverse tendency. The digestibility of crude fats was found to be from 48 percent to 76 percent, but bot significant difference among diets plus lipids or at the levels of two percent and five percent. The birds fed five percent mutton fat and tallow showed a tendency of lower digestibility as compared with those fed two percent, but the similar results were found between two percent and five percent lecithin fed to the birds. Then, it was tentatively concluded that the effect of the mutton fat on the energy and protein utilization was similar to tallow but resulted different tendency with lecithin.
The Gaussian process model (GPM) is a flexible surrogate model that can be used for nonparametric regression for multivariate problems. A unique feature of the GPM is that a prediction variance is automatically provided with the regression function. In this paper, we estimate the safety margin of a nuclear power plant by performing regression on the output of best-estimate simulations of a large-break loss-of-coolant accident with sampling of safety system configuration, sequence timing, technical specifications, and thermal hydraulic parameter uncertainties. The key aspect of our approach is that the GPM regression is only performed on the dominant input variables, the safety injection flow rate and the delay time for AC powered pumps to start representing sequence timing uncertainty, providing a predictive model for the peak clad temperature during a reflood phase. Other uncertainties are interpreted as contributors to the measurement noise of the code output and are implicitly treated in the GPM in the noise variance term, providing local uncertainty bounds for the peak clad temperature. We discuss the applicability of the foregoing method to reduce the use of conservative assumptions in best estimate plus uncertainty (BEPU) and Level 1 probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) success criteria definitions while dealing with a large number of uncertainties.
Intakes and excretions of calcium and phosphorus were determined for 8 female adolescents(aged 16.3$\pm$0.5y; body mass index 20.4$\pm$1.3kg/$m^2$; body fat 33.3$\pm$2.5%; bone mineral density of lumbar spine in L2-L4; 0.96$\pm$0.08g/$\textrm{cm}^2$) when they consumed diets basal and high in calcium for 6 days each. All subjects consumed a basal Ca diet containing 800mg, Korean RDA level of the subjects, and a high Ca diet containing 1200mg, RDA plus 2 SDs of calcium intake. The diets provided 58% of energy intake as carbohydrate, 25% as fat, and 17% as protein. Food, urine, and fecal composites were collected during the last 3 days of each feeding period. Fecal excretion of calcium was significantly greater on the high Ca than on the basal Ca diet. Hence, apparent absorption rate was significantly lowered from 40.9% on the basal Ca diet to 33.1% on the high Ca diet. There was no significant difference in calcium retention between the two diet periods but it tended to be greater on the high Ca diet. However, excretions and retention of phosphorus did not show any significant difference even though intake was significantly increased from 1,253mg on the basal Ca diet to 1,583mg on the high Ca diet. The results indicate that higher calcium intake than the Korean RDA level is recommended for adolescents to meet peak bone mineral accretion and attain a desirable level of calcium retention. Nanotechnology mostly employs nano-materials and nano-structures with distinctive properties based on their size, structure, and composition. It is quite difficult to produce nano-materials and nano-structures with identical sizes, structures, and compositions in large quantities, because of spatiotemporal fluctuation of production processes. In other words, fluctuation is the bottleneck in nanotechnology. We propose three strategies to suppress such fluctuations: employing 1) difference between linear and nonlinear phenomena, 2) difference in time constants, and 3) nucleation as a bottleneck phenomenon. We are also developing nano- and micro-scale guided assembly using plasmas as a plasma nanofabrication.1-5) We manipulate nano- and micro-objects using electrostatic, electromagnetic, ion drag, neutral drag, and optical forces. The accuracy of positioning the objects depends on fluctuation of position and energy of an object in plasmas. Here we evaluate such fluctuations and discuss the mechanism behind them. We conducted in-situ evaluation of local plasma potential fluctuation using tracking analysis of fine particles (=objects) in plasmas. Experiments were carried out with a radio frequency low-pressure plasma reactor, where we set two quartz windows at the top and bottom of the reactor. Ar plasmas were generated at 200 Pa by applying 13.56MHz, 450V peak-to-peak voltage. The injected fine particles were monodisperse methyl methacrylate-polymer spheres of $10{\mu}m$ in diameter. Fine particles were injected into the reactor and were suspended around the plasma/sheath boundary near the powered electrode. We observed binary collision of fine particles with a high-speed camera. The frame rate was 1000-10000 fps. Time evolution of their distance from the center of mass was measured by tracking analysis of the two particles. Kinetic energy during the collision was obtained from the result. Potential energy formed between the two particles was deduced by assuming the potential energy plus the kinetic energy is constant. The interaction potential is fluctuated during the collision. Maximum amplitude of the fluctuation is 25eV, and the average is 8eV. The fluctuation can be caused by neutral molecule collisions, ion collisions, and fluctuation of electrostatic force. Among theses possible causes, fluctuation of electrostatic force may be main one, because the fine particle has a large negative charge of -17000e and the corresponding electrostatic force is large compared to other forces.
