  • This study was carried out to develop the stable plug seedling production for hydroponics of spinaches by various nursery media, plug tray size and seed number per plug tray cell. When plant grown in various nursery media, the seeding stand rate was shown in order of granular rockwool with good water retention, granular rockwool>granular rockwool mixed with pearlite>cocopeat>pearlite>poly urethane foame. Thus, poly urethane foame indicated the lower seedling stand rate. There was no difference in growth of the seedlings md the seeding stand rate by the plug tray size, and no significant difference in the plant height and the number of leaves among the seed number per plug tray cell. But, leaf area of plant in 2 grains seeding per cell was $113.0cm^2$, was wider in compared with 5 grains seeding of which leaf area was $88.0cm^2$. Accordingly, the leaf area per plant decreased as more and more the number of seeds per plug tray cell increased. The fresh weight of a plant per plug tray cell was the heaviest with 12.5g in the 2 grains, and the total fresh weight of plants per cell was 33.9g in 4 grains seeding, thus it tended to was bigger compared with other treatments. Consequently, given that the number of seeds per cell was decreased, the fresh weight of a plant increased. On the other hand, the total fresh weight per cell showed a tendency to be reducing as more and more the number of seeds per plug tray cell decreased. The yield in the 4 grains seeding was increased by 46% as $14,910kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$ in compared with the yield in 2 grains seeding as $10,200kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$.

  • Factors which affect the capacity and the soil plug condition of an open-ended pile can be broadly divided into three categories:i.e., pile conditions, soil conditions and penetration methods. It has been found that the relative density and the horizontal stress have much effects on the soil plug behavior than other soil conditions. Also, it has been found that the pile diameter is the most important factor among pile conditions. However, a few investigations have been performed to account for both soil conditions and pile conditions. In this paper, a number of calibration chamber tests have been conducted with three different sized open-ended model piles. The model pile was driven into siliceous sand, with varying soil conditions, to clarify coupled effects of pile diameter and soil conditions on the plug behavior, the capacity, and the load trasfer mechanixm of soil plug. The model piles are composed of two stainless steel pipes so as to measure the plug capacity, the tip resistance, and the outside skin friction. separately.

  • Double Plug is constructed for preventing mixing of two different oils between two compartments in the underground oil storage cavern. And the gas and oil tightness of double plug is tested from the measurement of water leakage from double plug after the completion of double plug water filling. If water leakage is underestimated, it can increase construction cost and if water leakage is overestimated, it can increase operating cost. Therefore, optimum water leakage should be estimated to cut down the cost. In this study, hydraulic stability analysis was conducted to consider permeable properties of rock mass around double plugs and a water leak rate from double plug was estimated from the hydraulic stability analysis and case study. Finally, the reliability of estimation of water leak rate was proven by comparing estimated water leak rate with measured data.

  • Because of high oil prices and emission gas problems, many governments tighten regulation of fuel economy and emission gas. For Passenger car, there are many researches for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and they are being manufactured. On the other hand, there are few researches for plug-in hybrid electric bus that is heavy commercial vehicle. In this study, analysis of fuel economy for series plug-in hybrid electric bus according to engine operation strategy based on simulation is conducted. Forward simulator is developed using Autonomie. Engine operation strategies consist on constant engine operation strategy and engine on/off operation strategy. Considering the engine operation strategy, results of vehicle speed, engine operating points and fuel economy are obtained and analyzed. As a result, engine on/off operation strategy has more advantage than constant engine operation strategy in terms of fuel economy.

  • During an earthquake, there are three main components of excitation : horizontal excitation of the ground, vertical excitation of the pile due to superstructure feedback produced by vertical excitation of the ground, and the seawater excitation induced by the vertical ground shaking, that is, "the seaquake." These excitations could have effects on the soil plugs in open-ended pipe piles installed at offshore sites. In this study, seaquake excitation induced by the vertical ground shaking was simulated by pulsing the water pressure at the seabed. During a seaquake, due to induced excess porewater pressure and pressure gradients in the soil, the capacity of open-ended pipe piles installed in a simulated sea depth of greater than 220 m was reduced serevely and the soil plugging resistance was degraded by more than 80%. The soil plug was failed because of the upward seepage forces that developed in the soil plug due to excess pore water pressure produced in the bottom of the soil plug during the seaquake. The compressive capacity of an open-ended pile in a simulated sea depth of less than 220m was reduced only by about 10%, and the soil plug resistance was degraded by less than 5%.s than 5%.

  • In SI engine research the pressure data in cylinder is the most important fundamental ones leading to engine efficiencies and performances. It is, therefore, necessary to obtain accurate pressure data and yet it is often impossible to install a reliable data producing, flush-mounted type pressure transducer in a cylinder of small and medium size multicylinder SI engines. When flush mounting the transducer is not possible, the spark-plug type pressure transducer is commonly used as an alternative. In this case, the transmission tube of spark-plug type pressure transducer introduces distortions in the pressure signal. Efforts were made to understand the dynamic characteristics of spark-plug pressure transducer by shock tube tests and real engine experiments. In engine experiment the cylinder pressure data were simultaneously obtained by both flush mounted and spark-plug type pressure transducers of certain transmission tube geometry. Those pressure data collected by spark-plug type pressure transducer were tested for correction to flush mounted ones by the application of transfer function. As a result of the calibration the IMEP difference between F/M data and improved S/P data was shown to be corrected about 75-98% from the original ones.

  • In general, HF chemistry lifts off the particles during scrubbing after polishing and effectively removes particles. It is sometimes impossible to apply HF chemistry on W plug due to the degradation of electrical characteristics of a device. In this paper, a post W CMP cleaning process is proposed to remove residue particles without applying HF chemistry. After W CMP, recessed plugs are created, therefore they easily trap slurry particles during CMP process. These particles in recessed plug are not easy to remove by brush scrubbing when $NH_4OH$ chemistry is used for the cleaning because the brush surface can not reach the recessed area of plugs. Buffing with oxide slurry was followed by W CMP due to its high selectivity to W. The buffing polishes only oxide slightly which creates higher plug profiles than surrounding oxide. Higher profiles make the brush contact much more effectively and result in a similar particle removal efficiency even in $NH_4OH$ cleaning to that in HF brush scrubbing.
