  • Since the World Health Organization identified interprofessional education (IPE) as an important component in primary health care in the 1980s, medical and health sciences educators have continued to debate factors for implementing effective IPE in the classroom. Although IPE research is widespread internationally, few studies have been done in South Korea. This study explored the current status of IPE and examined factors that influence IPE in South Korea. A total of 30 (70%) out of 41 medical education experts in medical schools participated. Forty-seven percent of the participants reported that they allocated less than 5% of their time implementing IPE in the curriculum of their schools throughout the 4 years of medical school. Although all experts (100%) agreed that IPE is essential for medical students, they expressed practical difficulties in implementing IPE in the current education system. Factors that influence IPE are scheduling and curriculum (e.g., rigid curriculum vs. providing learning environment) and attitudes (e.g., lack of reciprocal respect vs. willingness to change). In addition, participants reported that communication skills and collaborative practice employing clinical practice or role-playing would be appropriate education methods and content for IPE in the future. The findings of this study provide a foundation for the implementation of IPE in South Korea. Future research directions for IPE in medical, nursing, and pharmacy schools are discussed.

  • In most child-care facilities, homeroom teachers take the responsibilities for safety education, which has been conducted in class hours on a regular basis. It was found that most homeroom teachers are lacking in teacher training opportunities, and the younger they are, the less training experience they get. Teachers with fewer teaching careers had a greater interest in safety education and training courses. In addition, homeroom teachers have been utilizing monthly toddler magazines as a method to acquire knowledges for safety education and prevention of safety accidents. The safety accidents which have most frequently occurred in care-care facilities turned out to be stumble and tear, and infants aged 3 years or younger were found to be easily exposed to the safety accidents mainly due to the frolic between peers during the free-choice activity time. The homeroom teachers recognized only traffic safety education among the range of safety training courses, which varied depending on teaching career such as traffic safety education and indoor/outdoor safety environment training, etc. In addition, it turned out that the safety training methods were limited to the utilization of discussion techniques, role-playing, description and demonstration.

  • Purpose: Due to an ever more interconnected global commercial environment, the role of SMEs from emerging markets has attracted considerable attention in business literature of late. Reinforced by strategic management theory, this study builds on aspects such as entrepreneurial orientation and dynamic capabilities to construct and test a framework that focuses on exploring their associations with export performance. Research design, data and methodology: To contribute further towards a deeper understanding of these markets, the current study empirically tests a model using data collected from 225 exporting firms located throughout South Africa. Results: The results from the data analysis show that entrepreneurial orientation contributes significantly towards improving the performance of South African SMEs. Additionally, this study integrates three dynamic capabilities in the strategy-performance relationship to test their interacting effects on the correlation between entrepreneurial orientation and export performance. Further findings advocate support for relationship-based capabilities playing a moderating role between entrepreneurial orientation and the exporting performance of small and medium firms emanating from emerging markets. Conclusions: Findings provide substance to the argument that entrepreneurship, as a strategy-making process, leads to export performance in emerging nations. Especially, this study provides several suggestions as to how small and medium-sized organizations can develop their exporting performance based on the research findings.

  • Parents' influence on children's development is generally considered essential. This paper attempts to explore the role of AR in preschool education from the perspective of parents, aiming to help parents better understand the impact of children's use of augmented reality in preschool education. The subjects were parents of children in the preschool age range (3-6 years old), and the experimental equipment was AR cognitive cards. In order to extract parents' views on AR, five parents were invited to conduct an experiment with their children using AR cognition cards, and then an open interview survey was conducted. In the second experiment, the answers obtained from the first experiment were sorted out and formed a questionnaire to conduct a closed-book survey. It shows that parents are satisfied with the characteristics of AR to assist their children's learning. At the same time, parents also value technology, usage management and playing environment. AR can stimulate children's learning initiative. Children like to use AR, AR is suitable for learning, make parents satisfied. But even if AR is suitable for learning, parents will control the time their children use it.

  • Recently changes in the technological environment of marine transportation and the increase of traffic volume have fostered a revolution in the design and operation of port and also playing a major role in the development of new types of port in Asian. These changes are dynamic and will continue to influence port physical distribution system. The port of Pusan has been hardly able to handle the traffic increases in recent years by expansion increased mechanization and other operational and institutional improvements but, further traffic increases bring about critical congestion and such congestion is an economic cost to the country in terms of cost of physical distribution. This paper treats the development of entirely new port of Pusan and related transportation system by considering the existing or expected need for improved port capacity and services. The western part of GADUK island is selected as the optimum port site through the detailed analysis of the physical requirement and careful consideration of regional development and since the lead time of the national development plan including the port project from initial planning to implementation is considered as long as 7 to 10 years the aggregated master plan for port development is made and implemented in the year of 2012.

  • Food webs have received global attention as next-generation biomonitoring tools; however, it remains challenging because revealing trophic links between species is costly and laborious. Although a link-extrapolation method utilizing published trophic link data can address this difficulty, it has limitations when applied to construct food webs in domestic streams due to the lack of information on endemic species in global literature. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a link extrapolation-based food web model adapted to Korean stream ecosystems. We considered taxonomic similarity of predation and dominance of generalists in aquatic ecosystems, designing taxonomically higher-level matching methods: family matching for all fish (Family), endemic fish (Family-E), endemic fish playing the role of consumers (Family-EC), and resources (Family-ER). By adding the commonly used genus matching method (Genus) to these four matching methods, a total of five matching methods were used to construct 103 domestic food webs. Predictive power of both individual links and food web indices were evaluated by comparing constructed food webs with corresponding empirical food webs. Results showed that, in both evaluations, proposed methods tended to perform better than Genus in a data-poor environment. In particular, Family-E and Family-EC were the most effective matching methods. Our model addressed domestic data scarcity problems when using a link-extrapolation method. It offers opportunities to understand stream ecosystem food webs and may provide novel insights into biomonitoring.

  • The development of drones is transforming society as a whole and playing a game-changing role in warfare. However, numerous problems pose threats to the lives and safety of people, and the counter-drone system lags behind the rapid development of drones. Most countries, including South Korea, have not established a reliable counter-drone system in response to the threat posed by numerous drones. Due to budget constraints in each country, an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis was conducted among a group of experts who have been involved in policymaking and research and development related to counter-drone systems. This analysis aimed to determine the priority of building a counter-drone system. Based on various research data, the counter-drone system was analyzed in three stages: detection/identification, governance, and response. The hierarchical design mapped out the existing researched counter-drone technology into a hierarchical model consisting of 31 evaluation criteria. The conclusion provided a roadmap for establishing a counter-drone system based on the prioritization of each element and considering factors such as technological advancement, outlining directions for development in each field.

  • Ecosystem and environment have been a serious challenge facing the modern society. It's been the new paradigm from ecological view of the world and the alternative based on Orientalism. From the Oriental standpoint, ecological aesthetics and sustainable architecture are no longer new, which then servers the background of this study. The nature and the space, the life where the human is harmonized and integrated and the wish to make the balance through that life are the basic philosophy which the Orientalism has pursued. Based on such a basic concept, the study is intended to review the connectivity, expression approach and the features in Korean traditional residential space based on previous studies on ecological aesthetics and sustainable architecture. Such attempt is meaningful in seeking the possibility of presenting the new frame as well as forming the various views to the traditional space and spatial recognition. The nature was categorized into tangible element and intangible element and also direct approach and indirect approach before evaluating the characteristics. Sustainable architecture is not the concept to simply maintain or sustain the environment, but plays more important role in economical aspect. Traditional space accommodates the nature and circulation principle and the circulation in the nature controls the energy and enhances the efficiency, playing significant role. The nature itself serves the alternative energy and has the aesthetic element in such a way of concealing itself. This study is intended to analyze the Byulseo Jeongwon which formed many relations with the nature and the residential space, thereby identifying the expression characteristics of eco-aesthetic sustainable architect. This study offers the answers with regard to the coexistence of the expression characteristics of sustainable architecture with the nature, space and the human from eco aesthetic viewpoint as well as the solution in dealing with the ecological and environmental challenges. Furthermore, it suggested the possibility that the traditional space would possibly be succeedable in new and creative way and sought the way for coexistence among the nature, space and human and eco aesthetics, and finally paved the pivotal foundation as the sustainable design alternative in future.
