Even though Korea has very low possibility that a big earthquake occurs like in Japan, China, Taiwan and United States of America, because it is located on the interior of Eurasian Plate, the earthquake which was struck northeast Japan in March 11th, 2011 gave a big shock to Korean. And small-medium earthquakes have been observed 922 times in Korea since 1978 when an earthquake hit Hong-seong and a seismographic station started observation. Moreover, the number of quakes has been on the increase. In case a big earthquake occurs like in northeast Japan, it would be a terrible disaster for Korean power utilities and brings mega effects on Korean society and economy. So it is necessary to apply anti-earthquake design for new power facilities and to reinforce existing facilities. Therefore, this paper would present anti-earthquake design for transmission line and substation and reinforcement measures for existing facilities.
Reinforced concrete corbels are generally used to transfer loads within a structural system, such as buildings, bridges, and facilities in general. They commonly present low aspect ratio, requiring an accurate model for shear strength prediction in order to promote flexural behavior. The model described here, originally developed for walls, was adapted for corbels. The model is based on a reinforced concrete panel, described by constitutive laws for concrete and steel and applied in a fixed direction. Equilibrium in the orthogonal direction to the shearing force allows for the estimation of the shear stress versus strain response. The original model yielded conservative results with important scatter, thus various modifications were implemented in order to improve strength predictions: 1) recalibration of the strut (crack) direction, capturing the absence of transverse reinforcement and axial load in most corbels, 2) inclusion of main (boundary) reinforcement in the equilibrium equation, capturing its participation in the mechanism, and 3) decrease in aspect ratio by considering the width of the loading plate in the formulation. To analyze the behavior of the theoretical model, a database of 109 specimens available in the literature was collected. The model yielded an average model-to-test shear strength ratio of 0.98 and a coefficient of variation of 0.16, showing also that most test variables are well captured with the model, and providing better results than the original model. The model strength prediction is compared with other models in the literature, resulting in one of the most accurate estimates.
The behavior of shear-wall dominant, low-rise, multistory reinforced concrete building structures is investigated. Because there are no beams or columns and the slab and wall thicknesses are approximately equal, available codes give little information relative to design for gravity and lateral loads. Items which effect the analysis of shear-wall dominant building structures, i.e., material nonlinearity including rotating crack capability, 3-D behavior, slab-wall interaction, floor flexibilities, stress concentrations around openings, the location and the amount of main discrete reinforcement are investigated. For this purpose 2 and 5 story building structures are modelled. To see the importance of 3-D modelling, the same structures are modelled by both 2-D and 3-D models. Loads are applied first the vertical then lateral loads which are static equivalent earthquake loads. The 3-D models of the structures are loaded in both in the longitudinal and transverse directions. A nonlinear isoparametric plate element with arbitrarily places edge nodes is adapted in order to consider the amount and location of the main reinforcement. Finally the importance of 3-D effects including the T-C coupling between walls are indicated.
There are the impregnating layer formation by surface protective materials or impregnants and the adhesion method by polymer, FRP sheet or steel plate in the surface protective method of concrete structure. The surface impregnation method by impregnants improves the durability of concrete structure by modifying the structure of the concrete surface and also have a merit that can be shortly applied in place without the decrease of concrete surface appearance and is easily applied again. This study is interested in manufacturing the concrete surface impregnants including lithium and potassium silicate for the repair of the exposed concrete and the color concrete requiring the advanced function in view of the concrete appearance. The durability and porosity properties was tested for the review of application. The result of this study show that the effective content of silicate ranges 5 to 20% and the separate application of the first impregnant and the second impregnant is effective for the optimum performance. The adhesion in tension is slightly increased but the reinforcement of concrete substrate is slight. So, the concrete impregnant of this study is more desirable for the improvement of durability rather than the reinforcement.

The push-out tests have been conducted on the specimens which consist of the steel beam with U-shape section and the cap-type shear connectors with constant intervals. Existing equations for the evaluation of shear connector strength have been investigated on the basis of test results. The reinforcing bars for longitudinal reinforcement and the penetrative bars for transverse reinforcement didn't have much effect on the shear capacity of the cap-type shear connector. The larger the width of cap-type shear connector was profiled, the greater the shear strength turned. The shear capacities of cap-type shear connectors with constant intervals were evaluated on the basis of push-out test results, and those were possible to be determined with proper safety margin using the Eurocode 4. The slip capacity of cap-type shear connector was shown to exceed the limit value of 6mm for sufficiently ductile behavior.

The aim of this research is reinforcing of concrete with variety of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) configurations and investigates the load capacity and ductility of these connections using an experimental investigation. Six scaled-down RC exterior joints were tested under moderately monotonic loads. The results show that, the shape of the FRP had a different effect on the joint capacity and the connection ductility coefficient. The greatest effect on increasing the ductility factor was seen in the sample where two reinforcement plates were used on both sides of the beam web (RCS5 sample). For the sample with the presence of FRP plates at the top and bottom of the beam (RCS3 sample), the ductility factor was reduced even the load capacity of this sample increased. Except for the RCS3 sample, the rest of the samples exhibited an increase in the ductility factor due to the FRP reinforcement.
This paper provides a methodology to analyze the seismic performance of different component designs in hybrid masonry structures (HMS). HMS, comprised of masonry panels, steel frames and plate connectors is a relatively new structural system with potential applications in high seismic areas. HMS dissipate earthquake energy through yielding in the steel components and damage in the masonry panels. Currently, there are no complete codes to assist with the design of the energy dissipation components of HMS and there have been no computational studies performed to aid in the understanding of the system energy dissipation mechanisms. This paper presents parametric studies based on calibrated computational models to extrapolate the test data to a wider range of connector strengths and more varied reinforcement patterns and reinforcement ratios of the masonry panels. The results of the numerical studies are used to provide a methodology to examine the effect of connector strength and masonry panel design on the energy dissipation in HMS systems. We use as test cases two story structures subjected to cyclic loading due to the availability of experimental data for these configurations. The methodology presented is however general and can be applied to arbitrary panel geometries, and column and story numbers.

Effect of thickness stretching on free vibration, bending and buckling behavior of carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (CNTRC) laminated nanoplates rested on new variable elastic foundation is investigated in this paper using a developed four-unknown quasi-3D higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). The key feature of this theoretical formulation is that, in addition to considering the thickness stretching effect, the number of unknowns of the displacement field is reduced to four, and which is more than five in the other models. Two new forms of CNTs reinforcement distribution are proposed and analyzed based on cosine functions. By considering the higher-order nonlocal strain gradient theory, microstructure and length scale influences are included. Variational method is developed to derive the governing equation and Galerkin method is employed to derive an analytical solution of governing equilibrium equations. Two-dimensional variable Winkler elastic foundation is suggested in this study for the first time. A parametric study is executed to determine the impact of the reinforcement patterns, nonlocal parameter, length scale parameter, side-t-thickness ratio and aspect ratio, elastic foundation and various boundary conditions on bending, buckling and free vibration responses of the CNTRC plate.

To avoid debonding failure, a novel type of hybrid anchorage (HA) is proposed in this study that uses a slotted plate to lock the ends of the fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheet in addition to the usual bonding over the substrate of the strengthened member. An experimental investigation was performed on three groups of RC beams, which differed from one another in either concrete strength or steel reinforcement ratio. The test results indicate that the end self-locking of the CFRP sheet can improve the failure ductility, ultimate capacity of the beams and its utilization ratio. Although intermediate debonding occurred in all the strengthened beams, it was not a fatal mode of failure for the three specimens with end anchorage. Among them, FRP rupture occurred in the beam with higher concrete strength and lower steel reinforcement ratio, whereas the other two failed by concrete crushing. The beam strengthened by HA obtained a relatively high percentage of increase in ultimate capacity when the rebar ratio or concrete strength decreased. The expressions in the literature were inspected to calculate the critical loads at intermediate debonding, FRP rupturing and concrete crushing after debonding for the strengthened beam. Then, the necessity of further research is addressed.
Methods for designing the post-tensioned anchorage zones at ultimate limit state has been specified in current design codes based on strut-and-tie models (STM). However, it is still not clear how to estimate the serviceability behavior of the anchorage zones. The serviceability is just indirectly taken into account by means of the reasonable reinforcement detailing. To address this issue, this paper is devoted to developing a modified strut-and-tie model (MSTM) to predict the behavior of concentric anchorage zones throughout the loading process. The principle of stationary complementary energy is introduced into STM at each load step to satisfy the compatibility condition and generate the unique MSTM. The structural behavior of anchorage zones can be achieved based on MSTM from loading to failure. Simplified formulas have been proposed to estimate the first cracking load, bearing capacity and maximum crack width with the consideration of the details of reinforcement bursting bars. The proposed model provides a definite method to control the bursting crack width in concentric anchorage zones. Four specimens with different bearing plate ratios have been designed and tested to validate the proposed method.
