  • As increasing number of large-size earthquake around Korean peninsula, many interests have been focused to the earthquake strengthening of existing structures. The brittle fracture of Non-seismic designed columns lead to full collapse of the building. In the past, cross-sectional extension method, a steel plate reinforcing method and fiver-reinforced method are applied to Seismic Rehabilitation Technique mainly. However, the reinforcement methods have drawbacks that induce physical damage to structures, large space, long duration time. So, in this study, performance evaluation of previously developed FRP seismic reinforcement which do not induce physical damage and short duration time was enforced. The specimens were constructed with 80% downscale. FRP seismic reinforcement are manufactured of glass fiber or aluminum plate with holes and glass fiber. From the experiment results, seismic performance of specimens which reinforced with FRP seismic reinforcement were increased.

  • This paper describes results of experimental and numerical analyses, in order to analyze a reinforcement effect of concrete mat on open cut restoration of underground cavity. The plate loading tests were conducted to evaluate a reinforcement effect of concrete mat, at reinforcement depths from the ground surface of 10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm. The result showed that the reduction ratio of stress (earth pressure) was about 60% at all reinforcement depth. The reinforcement effect considering ground surface settlement and reduction ratio of stress based on laboratory tests and numerical analysis was significant, at reinforcement depths from the ground surface of 10 cm~20 cm. LFWD test results showed that subgrade modulus was the largest when concrete mat was installed 20 cm below ground surface. Therefore, it is effective to reinforce concrete mat within 20 cm from the surface, when the underground cavity due to damage of underground utilities was formed in the height direction to the bottom of the pavement layer.

  • A finite element model for punching shear of flat plate structures is presented. A parametric study also has been conducted to verification of influence of several parameters in terms of the flexural reinforcement ratio, slab thickness. Reisnner-Mindlin assumptions are adopted to consider of shear deformation. Layered shell element is considered for the material non-linearities. The finite element model of this study was verified comparing with existing experimental results. The model is able to predict the capacity of the flat plate structures. The punching shear of flat plate structures varied depending on the flexural reinforcement ratio, slab thickness.

  • By using the first order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) in the present paper, the effect of porosity on the buckling behavior of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite porous plates has been investigated analytically. Two types of distributions of uniaxially aligned reinforcement material are utilized which uniformly (UD-CNT) and functionally graded (FG-CNT) of plates. The analytical equations of the model are derived and the exact solutions for critical buckling load of such type's plates are obtained. The convergence of the method is demonstrated and the present solutions are numerically validated by comparison with some available solutions in the literature. The central thesis studied and discussed in this paper is the Influence of Various parameters on the buckling of carbon nanotube-reinforced porous plate such as aspect ratios, volume fraction, types of reinforcement, the degree of porosity and plate thickness. On the question of porosity, this study found that there is a great influence of their variation on the critical buckling load. It is revealed that the critical buckling load decreases as increasing coefficients of porosity.

  • This paper summarizes the development and evaluation of the reinforcement details of CFRP plates to improve the bending performance of wooden beams. In this study, the reinforcing technology using high-strength bolts for the end of beam were developed as reinforcement details for reinforcing wooden beams with CFRP plates by EBM method. In order to evaluate the bending performance, a bending test was conducted for the specimens with details of reinforcement such as the EBM method and the NSM method. From the experimental results, the EBM specimens without end restraints had both the CFRP plate attachment failure and the splitting failure of the wood. In the load-displacement curve, the non-reinforced specimens exhibited linear elastic behavior and then brittle fracture after the maximum load. The maximum load of the specimens reinforced by the EBM method increased by 31.5~63.0% compared to the non-reinforced specimens, and the maximum load according to the end restraints of the high-strength bolts increased by 24.0%. Based on the reinforcement amount of the same CFRP plate, EBM reinforcement was 2.67 times larger in maximum load increase rate than NSM reinforcement.

  • When the perforated panels are under in-plane shear loads, shear buckling analysis is also necessary because of the presence of stress concentration around holes. To constrain it, we need some reinforcement. The methods of reinforcement are attaching doubler around hole and stiffeners in the arbitary directions. In this paper, two kinds of methods mentioned above are investigated, it is also clarified that which of the two is the more effective reinforcement. For the sake of convenience those arbitary directions were selected parallel ($90^{\circ}$) and oblique ($135^{\circ}$) to the edge. From the results of the above investigation, following conclusion was obtained. In case of parallel stiffeners, doubler reinforcement gives higher buckling strength than stiffener, however, in case of oblique stiffeners, doubler reinforcement gives higher buckling strength than doubler when the external load direction is known.

  • In this paper, it is the effect of using fiber sheet (Carbon Fiber Sheet & Aramid Fiber Sheet) and Steel Plate for reinforced concrete beam, 25 specimens are tested, 16 specimens for bending capacity and the other are for shear capacity. In the case of bending testing, the kind and quantity of the reinforcement materials, the bondage and the existence of crack were selected as experimental variables. And in the case of shear testing, it is testified the effect of reinforcement with the variables of the method of reinforcement (side type and U type). As a result, using the reinforcement meterials can increase the capacity of bending stress.

  • This study was made to examine the motion characteristics according to the reinforcement of the reinforcement length and stiffener reinforcement for shear reinforcement to the foundation structure reinforced with shear reinforcement steel plate. Experimental study was made after specimen was installed on the ground as the same as in the practical site. Reinforcement lengths of the steel for shear reinforcement are divided into 1,000 mm, 1,200 mm and 1,400 mm in the specimen and as for reinforcement method of the stiffener, 4 stiffeners with interval of 100mm reinforced with the same materials as the shear reinforcement were manufactured for the experiment. Considering result of the experiment, it is expressed that no effect of the stiffener reinforcement was found and regarding the reinforcement length of shear reinforcement material the crossed point of the two converted lines of the value that the shear force is expressed in the bearing power in the expanded dangerous section and the value that the shear capacity receivable by the reinforcement materials in the dangerous section is proposed as effective reinforcement length.

  • The R/C flat plate system provides architectural flexibility, clear space, reduced building height, simple formwork, which consequently enhance constructibility. One of the serious problems in the flat plate system is brittle punching shear failure due to transfer of shear force and unbalanced moments in column-slab joint. Recently, the flat plate system accompanied with shear walls to resist the lateral loads is applied to high-rise buidings. Although the flat plate system is not considered in design as part of the lateral load-resisting system, it is required that this system keeps the ductile behavior for the lateral displacement of the building. However, it is unclear whether the column-slab joint possesses ductility enough to survive the lateral deformation. The objective of this paper is to investigate the major parameters that influence the ductility of R/C flat plate system by examining the existing experiments on column-slab joint. The effects of gravity load and shear reinforcement on the ductility of the flat plate system are presented.

  • Numerical studies were performed to investigate the seismic performance of Flat Plate System. For the numerical studies, a computer program for Finite Element analysis was developed. Parametric studies were performed to investigate variations of strength and ductility of flat plate with major parameters: gravity load, reinforcement ratio, thickness, column sizes. The numerical results provide a valuable insights on the behavior of flat plates. The comparison with the current design method shows that the current design methods for strength and ductility need to be improved in some aspects.
