  • Wood Plastic Composite(WPC) has been introduced as a new constructional material in Europe and North America. The maintenance-free durability against weather was accepted by customers and the environment-friendly merits ignited the abrupt increase of market size. Domestic major companies have kicked off the WPC business at the market of outdoor constructional materials. Due to the high contents of natural wood fiber, the production equipments should be modified to remove the moisture, to prevent thermal degradation and to promote output rates. Materials including functional fillers play a critical role in rheological properties, which affects the physical and mechanical properties of the last products. More research might be performed for synergy effects combined by various academic fields from mechanical and chemical engineering to polymer process and material science.

  • The mechanical properties of alkali resistance (AR) glass fiber reinforced cement(GFRC) under different curing conditions were investigated in this study. The specimens were formed by extrusion process, and then steam cured and autoclaved. An autoclaved specimen showed the elastic-brittle behavior up to 4% of fiber volume fraction. However, it was found that the fracture behavior for cured specimen was changed to the elastic-plastic with crack branches fracture at greater than 3 vol.% of fiber.

  • In the present design concept, the nonlinear behaviour of bridges is at lowed under large earthquake. The nonlinearity is, however, localized like pier, bearing, etc. Especially, pier columns are most important members for seismic performance. It is, however, difficult to solve the problem how the nonlinearity of columns should be modelled. In this study, the fiber element is used for modelling pier column. The element is a kind of structural elements like frame element, and it can model the distributed plasticity of plastic hinge. A 3 span continous bridge is taken for seismic analysis. First, the nonlinear static analysis the column at fixed support are performed so that the characteristics of column is analyzed. Second, Linear and nonlinear dynamic analysises using simplified model for longitudinal direction are carried out and the results are analyzed.

  • Considerable research was done to study the fatigue behavior of the reinforced concrete bridge deck which is strengthened by carbon fiber. The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the fatigue behavior and strengthening effects of the strengthened bridge deck with grid type carbon fiber plastic. The results of this study show that the displacement and the total released energy of strengthening of bridge deck are greater than the case of unstrengthened bridge deck. By strengthening of bridge deck, applied load is so distributed on whole deck member that crack concentration is efficiently controled.

  • A three-dimensional (3D)-two-dimensional (2D) convertible display system using a plastic fiber array is proposed. The proposed system has an advantage of making use of a light source for 3D image from an arbitrary location. The optical efficiency of 3D images in the proposed system is enhanced compared with previous research.

  • In this paper, the refined plastic-hinge analysis accounting for gradual yielding with fibers on a section is developed. Geometric nonlinearities of member(P-δ) and frame(P-Δ) are accounted for by using stability functions. Residual stresses are considered by assigning initial stresses to the fiber on the section. The elastic core in a section is investigated at every loading step to determine the axial and bending stiffness reduction. The strain reversal effect is captured by investigating the stress change of each fiber. The proposed analysis proves to be useful in applying for practical analysis and design of three-dimensional steel frames.

  • Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is a composite material useful in the aerospace and automotive industries because of its light weight and high strength. In this study, side milling tests were carried out using AlCrN, diamond-like carbon (DLC), and diamond-coated end mills. Additionally, a comparison study according to the cobalt content was conducted. Thus, tool wear and surface quality were examined and the influences of using coating and a certain material type were analyzed. The surface roughness of the machined surface was measured. Microscope observations revealed that the CFRP fiber at the machined surface was not damaged even at a cutting distance of 3,000 mm. Therefore, this study showed that the diamond-coated end mill containing 6% cobalt is appropriate for milling CFRP.

First, the nonlinear static analysis the column at fixed support are performed so that the characteristics of column is investigated. Second, the nonlinear dynamic analyses of the full bridge model is performed, considering 3 directional earthquake excitations.
