  • This paper is to predict quality deterioration resulting from a caulking process of yoke which is a part of automotive steering system. The caluking is a plastic deformation process involving such as impact of high speed tool, contacts between part and fixtures and strain rate sensitivity of the part material. Elaborate application of finite element method is neccesary to calculate changes of part dimensions because they fall into a level of tolerances. Simple work hardening and strain rate sensitive model is proposed fur the material and applied for the simulation by using Abaqus which is able to cater for elastoplastic rate sensitive material and contacts. Numerical results of test models that represent tensile bar and tensile plate are compared with material data inputs. Dimensional changes for the yoke are calculated from simulations and compared to the mesurements and they show good agreement. The method presented here with the material model proved to be valuable to assess quality deterioration for similar metal forming processes.

  • In the case of a crack propagation a portion of the work of inelastic deformation near the crack tip is dissipated as heat. In order to understand the thermal effect on fracture toughness, tensile tests were carried out using thermocouples to monitor the variation of temperature. The experimental results show that the temperature of specimen was increased $5.4^{\circ}C$ at static load condition. And the thermal effect is investigated connected with the steady-state stress in the vicinity of a crack propagation in the elastic-plastic C-T specimen theoretically. And fracture toughness, the energy to make crack surfaces, presented correctively. The fracture toughness with considering heat at the blunting of the crack tip is lower about 16.9% than that of ignoring heat. So, it is resonable to apply the fracture toughness with considering thermal energy and it would be good explanation for constraint effect depending on the configuration in the presence of excessive plasticity.

  • Facial model reconstruction and surgical simulation are essential parts in the computer-aided surgical system. Plastic surgeons use it to design appropriate repair plans and procedures before actual surgery is operated. In this work, the exploration of 3-D metamorphosis to them presents new results in these two parts.

  • Static electricity is an everyday phenomenon. There can be few of us who have not experienced a static shock after sliding across a car seat. Other static nuisance effects include the cling of some fabrics to the body, the sticking of a plastic document cover, or the attraction of dust to a TV or computer screen. However, static electricity has been a serious industrial problem. The age of electronics brought with it new problems associated with static electricity and electrostatic discharge. And, as electronic devices became faster and smaller, their sensitivity to ESD increased. In this work, We are study on the control technique of electo-static discharges using semiconductor circuits. Our circuits are prevented well to electrostatic shock or damages from triboelectric charging in cars everyday life.

  • There is few research about contact problem for a rigid surface with an arbitrary shape in SPH. The variational equation based on the virtual work principle is derived and its solution is obtained by the penalty method. It is proposed a new method that can determine the parameters for a penetration and a penetration rate used in the penalty method. The reproducing condition is adopted to correct the deficiency of kernel on the boundary. In order to calculate a penetration of particles, after checking boundary particles for deformable body, boundary normal vectors were determined on the rigid surface. Numerical simulations for models which have rigid surface with an arbitrary shape were conducted to validate the proposed method in 2D Cartesian and cylindrical coordinate. The results of those analysis represent that the contact algorithm proposed in this study works properly.

  • Popcorn cracking phenomena frequently occur in thin plastic packages during the solder reflow process, which are definitely affected by poor adhesion of Cu-based leadframe to epoxy molding compounds (EMCs). In the present work, in order to enhance the adhesion strength, a brown-oxide treatment on the Cu-based leadframe was carried out and the adhesion strength of leadframe/EMC interface was measured in terms of fracture toughness by using sandwiched double-cantilever beam (SDCB) specimens. After the adhesion tests, fracture surfaces were analyzed by SEM, AES, EDS and AFM to make the failure path clear. Results showed that failure path was closely related to the oxidation time and the interfacial fracture toughness.

  • A novel theoretical solution is presented for created (zero initial radius) cavity expansion problem based on CamClay model and considers the effect of initial anisotropic in-situ stress and drained conditions. Here the strain of this theoretical solution is small deformation in elastic region and large deformation in plastic region. The works for cylindrical and spherical cavities expanding in drained condition from zero initial radius are investigated. Most of the conventional solutions were based on the isotropic and undrained condition, however, the initial stress state of natural soil mass is anisotropy by soil deposition history, and drained cavity expansion calculation is closer to actual engineering in permeable soil mass. Finally, the parametric study is presented in order to the engineering significance of this work.

  • Extensional flow of viscoelastic fluids is widely utilized in various industrial processes such as electrospinning, 3D printing and plastic injection molding. Extensional rheological properties, such as apparent viscosity and relaxation time, play an important role in the design and evaluation of the viscoelastic fluid-involved processes. In this work, we propose a lab-built capillary breakup extensional rheometer (CaBER) based on flow image processing to investigate the capillary breakup of polyethylene oxide (PEO) solution and its extensional rheological properties. We found that the apparent extensional viscosity and extensional relaxation time of the PEO solution are independent of the strike time. The proposed CaBER is expected to be applied to characterization of the extensional rheological properties of viscoelastic fluids at low cost with high precision.

  • Single-crystal diamond obtained by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) exhibits great potential for use in next-generation power devices. Low defect density is required for the use of such power devices in high-power operations; however, plastic deformation and lattice strain increase the dislocation density during diamond growth by CVD. Therefore, characterization of the dislocations in CVD diamond is essential to ensure the growth of high-quality diamond. In this work, we analyze the characteristics of the dislocations in CVD diamond through synchrotron white beam X-ray topography. In estimate, many threading edge dislocations and five mixed dislocations were identified over the whole surface.

  • Flexible composite propellers have a relatively large deformation under heavy loading conditions. Thus, it is necessary to accurately predict the deformation of the blade through a fluid-structure interaction analysis. In this work, we present an LST-FEM method to predict the deformation of a flexible composite propeller. Here, we adopt an FEM solver called OOFEM to carry out a structural analysis with an orthotropic linear elastic composite material. In addition, we examine the influence of the lamination direction on the deformation of the flexible composite propeller.
