A Study on the Structural Analysis for Plastic Door Handle of Automobile (플라스틱 자동차 손잡이 구조물의 구조해석에 관한 연구)

  • Application of CAE analyses are wide spread in shaping processes and structural safety verification of plastic products. The importance of CAE analysis and its contributions are getting increase since the processibility and structural safety of product can be predicted. CAE analysis for complex shaped product need a lot of time for modeling and computation compare with simpler one. Therefore careful simulation modeling is required for complex shaped product. Structural analysis for plastic door handle of automobile has been performed and structural safety has been investigated for various load directions and modeling cases. Large stress occurred at the hinge in handle regardless of load direction and modeling case. Consequently hinge is considered structurally very weak among the parts in plastic door handle. It is concluded that simple modeling rather than total modeling with adequate boundary condition equivalent to real situation gives reasonable computational results with saving modeling effort and computation time.

Hepatotoxicity Assessment of Derived Product from Pyrolysis System for Waste Plastic Recycling (폐플라스틱 재활용을 위한 열분해공정 파생물질의 간독성 평가)

  • Recently, waste plastic recycling technology is transforming from Incineration system to pyrolysis gasification system which can derive the resources from environmental waste and charge no more environmental burden to nature. The present study was carried out to investigate the potential acute toxicity of derived product of pyrolysis gasifications system for recycling of waste plastic by a single oral dose in Sprague-Dawley Rats. In order to evaluate the hepatotoxic effects of derived product of pyrolysis gasification system, activities of serum transaminase were measured in rats. No related changes in survivals, clinical signs and the ratio of the liver to body weights of rats were monitored. The results showed that the single oral administration of material of pyrolysis system for recycling of waste plastic did not induce any toxic effect at orally single dose level of 0 and 100, 200, 400, 800mg/kg body weight in rats. We could not find out any significant tocxicity induced by single oral administrate of material of pyrolysis system for recycling of waste plastic.

Development of Asymmetric Plastic Fan Product (비대칭형 플라스틱 팬 제품 개발)

  • The analysis of injection molding process by CAE is widely used in development of plastic products. That comes from the fact that CAE analysis can reduce trial and error based on optimized design. On this study, by use of MOLDFLOW, the causes of product defects were found and solved by trade-off study. CAE analysis includes Flow-Cool-Warpage Analyses and finally a new mold-die design with better product quality was suggested. On injection molding of round-shaped plastic fan, new mold-die system with 4-tunnel gates located on the edge of a fan disc shows better quality rather than pin-point gate located on the center of a disc. That was effective in terms of flow mark removal and flatness improvement of the product.

  • This paper presents a methodology in which the knowledge of design intents and change requests is communicated unambiguously cross collaboration partners through features. The domain of application is focused on the plastic part design for enabling effective collaboration between the product design and plastic mold making. The methodology takes the feature-based design approach and allows design features and knowledge to be reused in plastic injection mold design. It shortens the mold design lead-time, reduces mold design efforts, and enables unambiguous and fast design change management between product and mold designers. These contribute to the reduction of product development cycle time.

  • The injection molding process is widely used in the production of most plastic products. In order to make metal-colored plastic products like those found in modern luxury home alliances, metallic pigments are mixed with a basic resin material for injection molding. However, process control for metal-colored plastic products is extremely difficult due to the non-uniform melt flow of the metallic resin pigments. In this study, the effect of process parameters on the quality of a metal-colored plastic product is evaluated. A rapid mold cooling method using a compressed cryogenic fluid is also proposed to decrease the content of undesired compounds within the plastic product.

Comparison Study of Physical Properties between Two Silicone Gel Sheets (새로 개발한 실리콘젤시트의 물성에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: Silicone gel sheet(SGS) is used for preventing and treating keloid or hypertrophic scars. Because the product is weak in tear strength and adherence, it requires several replacements, which requires high cost. As a solution for this problem, we developed a new silicone gel sheet, named as Scar Clinic, and confirmed its physical properties. Methods: Tensile strength, elongation rate, adhesiveness, and water vapor transmission rate were experimentally compared between the most commonly used SGS product and the Scar Clinic. Results: The newly developed SGS showed better results compared to the existed SGS in regards to tensile strength, elongation rate, adhesiveness, and water vapor transmission rate. Conclusion: The Scar Clinic showed higher durability and flexibility. It will be a useful product for treating scars clinically.

  • The dimensional accuracy of a final product is mainly affected by elastic die deformation during the forging and elastic recovery after the ejection in cold forging process. The investigations on elastic recovery are not so much as those of elastic die deformation. The elastic recovery can be determined by using the elastic-plalstic finite element analysis, but, this method has some limits such as poor conver- gence and long computational time, etc. In this paper, a theoretical analysis for predicting the elastic recovery of a final product in axi-symmetric forging process by using the rigid-plastic finite element method is presented. The rigid-plastic finite element analysis of a cold forward extrusion process involving loading, ejecting process is accomplished by rigid-plastic FE code, DEFORM. The effect of elastic die deformation on the final product dimenmsion is also considered. The calculated elastic recovery is compared is compared with the analysis result of elastic-plastic FE code. The Effect of Product Experience Through Virtual Reality on Product Evaluation

  • With the development of new technologies, virtual reality (VR) is emerging as a new consumer marketing platform. Yet, only a few studies have investigated VR in the consumption context. The current research explores how experiencing a product through VR influences consumer attitude and purchase intention for the product. Although assessing products in real life is believed to be more diagnostic than that through VR, the present research revealed that experiencing a product through VR could lead to a more positive attitude toward and higher purchase intention for the product. We also demonstrated that "enjoyment" has a mediating effect while evaluating the product through VR. To compare product experience through VR to that in real life, we employed the HTC Vive VR system to implement a VR environment. In the VR condition, participants evaluated plastic building blocks using a VR headset and a motion controller; and in the real life (reality) condition, they evaluted plastic building blocks printed using a 3D printer to make them look exactly the same as the blocks used in the VR condition. Finally, implications and suggestions are discussed.

Process Design in Shell Nosing for Net-Shape Product by the Backward Tracing Schme of the Rigid-Plastic FEM (유한요소법의 역추적기법을 활용한 정밀정형 노우징 부품의 성형 공정설계)

  • A process is designed by the backward tracing scheme of the rigid-plastic FEm for net-shape shell nosing component without machining after forming. The current process of the shell nosing industry requires cost-consuming machining to produce final product . The backward tracing scheme of the rigid-plastic FEM, a novel method in preform design of metal forming processes , derives a sound preform for net-shape shell nosing product . The current process is simulated to check the metal flow involved informing with a trial preform and its modified preform. It is found that the two preforms are not suitable for net-shape shell nosing product. Finally, a preform is desinged by the backward tracing scheme, which is suitable for net-shape manufacturing of the shell nosing component.

  • Plastic injection products have been widely used in various electronic appliances and high-tech commodities. However, plastic injection product manufacturers have to spare no efforts to shorten new product development period to introduce new products into the market ahead of other competitors, gaining competitiveness and satisfying customers. The manufacturers cannot only get big target market share rapidly but also the advantage of leading the product price in order to survive in highly competitive market. This paper proposes the cost estimation approach of feature-based plastic injection products by using hybrid artificial neural network and genetic algorithm. The proposed method is to dramatically simplify and shorten the complex conventional cost estimation procedures and the requested computation parameters of plastic injection products. The case study demonstrates the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed model in solving the cost estimation problem of plastic injection products at the development stage.
