Disposition of sulfathiazole in plasma and tissue of broiler chicks following oral administration (육계에서 sulfathiazole 경구투여 후 혈장 및 조직내 잔류량)

  • The purposes of this study were to characterize the disposition of sulfathiazole(ST) and to investigate the effects of sodium bicarbonate on the disposition of ST in broiler chicks(2.5~3.0kg). Animals were given ST acutely(10~80mg/kg, PO), and plasma, kidney, muscle, heart, liver and spleen samples were collected and analyzed for ST by high performance liquid chromatography. The plasma and tissue data was consistent with a one-compartment pharmacokinetic model. The drug is rapidly but incompletely(2.5~3.87%) absorbed with peak plasma and tissue levels being achieved within one hour after dosing. The plasma and tissue levels depended on drug dosage, and the descending order in concentration of ST was kidney > plasma > heart > muscle $\geq$ spleen $\geq$ liver from animals sacrificed at one hour after dosing. Moreover, significant positive correlations(r>0.9) existed between plasma and tissue levels of ST. In addition, sodium bicarbonate pretreatment decreased plasma level, indicating that an alkalinization stimulate the excretion of ST. Results of this study suggest that oral application of ST was rapidly absorbed and eliminated, and confirmed that tissue residues of ST can be estimated from plasma drug concentration in broiler chicks.

Effects of Multivitamin-Mineral Supplementation, at Nutritional Doses, on Plasma Antioxidant Status, Erythrocyte Antioxidant Enzyme Activities and Lipid Peroxidation during Pregnancy

  • The aim of this study was to evalute the effect of multivitamin-mineral supplementation during pregnancy on plasma levels of antioxidants, erythrocyte antioxidant enzyme activities, and lipid peroxidation. A controlled, semi-randomized, prospective trial was performed by comparing the supplement group, which received multivitamin-mineral tables once daily for 10 weeks, with the control group. Plasma levels of $\beta$-carotene, tocopherol, coenzyme Q10, ascorbate, folate, zinc, and selenium and malondialdehyde (MDA), as well as the activities of superocxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) in erythrocytes were measured initially (20 wk gestation) and at the end of the intervention (34 wk gestation). In the control group, plasma ascorbate and selenium levels decreased and tocopherol levels increased. In the supplement group, a significant increase in plasma $\beta$-carotene(46%), conenzyme Q10 (42%), and zinc (24%) was observed after 10 weeks of supplementation. No changes were observed in the plasma levels of MDA, and erythrocyte GSH-Px activity, while SOD activity increased in both control group and the supplement group during the intervention. These data suggest that multivitamin-mineral supplementation during pregnancy produced moderate increases in plasma $\beta$-carotens, coenzyme Q10, and zinc concentrations but the enhancement of those plasma antioxidants had on direct on the plasma level of MDA, erythrocytes SOD or GSH-Px activities.

Growth and characterization of BON thin films prepared by low frequency RF plasma enhanced MOCVD method

  • It was first time that low frequency R.F. derived plasma enhanced MOCVD with frimethylborate precursor was used to fabricate a new ternary compound $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ . The formation of BON molecule was resulted from nitrogen nitrifying B-O, and forming the angular molecule structure proved by XPS and FT-IR results. The relationship between hardness and film thickness was studied. An thickness-independent hardness was fond about 10 GPa. The empirical calculation of band-gap and UV test result showed that our deposited $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ thin film was semiconductor material with 3.4eV of wide band gap. The electrical conductivity, $4.8$\times$10^{-2}$ /($\Omega$.cm)$^{-1}$ also confirmed that $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ has a semiconductor property. The roughness detected from the as-grown films showed that there was no serious bombarding effect due to anion in the plasma occurring in the RF frequency derived plasma.

  • 우주물질의 대부분이 플라즈마 상태에 있지마는 지구상에서는 천둥이 칠 때 생기는 방전이나 극지방에서 볼 수 있는 오로라와 같이 극히 일부분이 자연상태의 프라즈마로 존재한다. 지금까지 플라즈마의 이용은 그것이 내는 밝은 빛을 이용한 조명이나, 높은 열을 이용한 용접이나 절단이 고작이었으나, 최근에 들어 초고온, 고밀도 플라즈마를 이용한 핵융합 에너지 연구나 Free Electron Laser나 Gyrotron과 같이 새로운 Radiation Source로써 종래의 Source가 만들지 못하던 주파수 영역이나 Glow Discharge에서 생기는 저온 Plasma를 이용한 Plasma Etching PECVD(Plasma Enhanced CHemical Vapor Deposition), Plasma Ashing, Sputtering등은 VLSI의 제조에 필요불가결한 공정의 일부분이 되고 있다. 앞으로 수회에 걸쳐 본 기술해설란을 통하여 이들 Plasma의 이용 기술을 소개하고자 하며 본회에서는 그중에서 Plasma Etching에 대해서 그 원리와 기술상의 특징을 살펴보고자 한다.

Surface Modification Studies by Atomic Force Microscopy for Ar-Plasma Treated Polyethylene

  • Atomic force microscopy(AFM) was used to study the polyethylene(PE) surfaces grafted and immobilized with acrylic acid by Ar plasma treatment. The topographical images and parameters including RMS roughness and Rp-v value provided an appropriate means to characterize the surfaces. The plasma grafting and immobilization method were a useful tool for the preparation of surfaces with carboxyl group. However, the plasma immobilization method turned out to have a limitation to use as a means of preparation of PE surface with specific functionalities, due to ablation effect during the Ar plasma treatment process.

Status of Plasma Technology Applied to Agriculture and Foods (플라즈마 기술의 농식품 분야 활용)

  • Recently, plasma technology has been increasingly applied to agriculture and foods. Owing to the three important plasma characteristics which are activation, sterilization, and catalysis, the plasma technology can be properly applied to agriculture, in the other word, to the whole cycle of agriculture from farm to table: seed germination, plant growth, harvest and storage, washing, packaging, transport, in store, household, cooking, garbage, etc. Some representative case studies for plasma activation, sterilization, and catalysis show well that plasma technology can be successfully applied to the whole cycle of agriculture.

  • A microwave plasma generating system has been designed to study the properties of plasma. A microwave(2.45GHz) generated by the magnetron is transmitted to the cylindrical cavity through the the rectangular wave guide to generate hydrogen plasma. The electron temperature and the plasma density are measured by the Double Langmuir probe. A dilectric such as alumina is heated by the microwave add plasma. The surface temperature varies with the neutral gas pressure.
