Effect of Initial Seedling Size and Root Pruning Intensity on Above-ground and Root Development in Quercus serrata Seedlings after Transplanting (초기 묘목크기와 단근강도가 이식 후 졸참나무의 지상부 및 뿌리발달에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the optimum intensity of root pruning and the initial seedling size of 1-year-old Quercus serrata for producing 2-year-old healthy seedlings. Large( > 26 cm hight) and small size ( < 24 cm hight) seedlings were pruned their root by the length of 5, 10, and 15cm and then transplanted on nursery. Stem height, root-collar diameter(RCD), height to RCD ratio(H/D ratio), shoot dry weight(DW) and root development were measured during first growing season after transplanting. Seedling size and pruning intensity influenced on shoot growth such as height, RCD, H/D ratio and DW after transplanting. In addition, the development of lateral roots such as number, length, DW and diameter were affected by the seedling size. Taproot pruned by 15cm was shown excellent above-ground growth in large seedling group, but pruned by 10 and 15cm showed respectively better shoot growth in small seedling group. Large seedlings increased their above-ground growth, taproot regrowth, and number of lateral roots more than those of the small seedlings. But the length and DW of lateral roots were increased in the small seedlings. In conclusion, in order to produce high quality 2-year-old seedlings, it is important to produce large size of Q. serrata seedlings. Also root pruning length of 1-year-old Q. serrata was reasonable on 15 cm in taller than 26 cm or 10cm in less than the height.

Variation of Yield and Major Agronomic Characters under the Different Planting Densities of Sculellaria baicalensis (황금 재식밀도에 따른 수량 및 주요형질의 변이)

  • This study was invesigated to find out the optimum planting densities of Sculellaria baicalensis GEORGE about growth characters, yield components and yield at 6 planting densities by direct sowing culture. The results obtained are summarized as follows ; Studying the correlationship, the highly negative significances were found between planting densities and dry wights of root, leaves and stem ; on the other hand, the highly positive significances were found between planting densities and plant hight, stem diameter, respeitively. Plant height was long in dense planting, and short in spacious planting by direct sowing culture. Stem diameter was thick in spacious planting, and was thin in dense planting. Length and dry weight of root per plant were decreased in dense planting and were increased in spacious planting by direct sowing culture. Quality and yield of dry root weight were highest in optimum planting densities (30${\times}$10cm ; 33plants/m$^2$) by direct sowing culture.

A New Spray Chrysanthemum Cultivar 'Yes Uri' with Pompon Type and Yellow Color (황색 폼폰형 스프레이국화 'Yes Uri' 육성)

  • A new spray chrysanthemum(Dendranthema grandiflorum Ramat.) cultivar 'Yes Uri' was originated from a cross between 'SP03-033-02' and 'SP03-005-04'. This cultivar was tested on the characteristics from 2005 to 2007 for the evaluation and selection including shading and retarding culture. The natural flowering time of 'Yes Uri' is the late October, but year-round production is possible by shading, lighting and retarding culture. This cultivar was pompon in flower type with a color of bright yellow(RHS 7A), 13.8 flowers per plant and 91.5 cm of plant hight. The diameter of flower was 4.4 cm and the preference was high at 4.14 ranged up to 5.00. The days to flowering under the short day was 8 weeks and plant was very vigorous. It had resistance to white rust and showed 23.6 days of vase life in autumn season.

Comparison Plant Growth and Fruit Setting among Sweet Pepper Cultivars of Red Line (적색 계통 파프리카 품종 간 생육 및 착과 특성 비교)

  • To suggest the basic data for exporting enlargement of sweet pepper (Capsicim annuum L.), this study compared plant growth and fruit setting characteristics among 8 cultivars of red line. At 23 weeks after planting, plant height was long in 'Debla', 'Cupra', 'Thialf', 'Viper' and 'Spider', and was shot in 'Scirocco', 'Ferrari', 'Special'. 'Debla' had a few nodes number and long internode length. For 23 weeks after planting, weekly increment of plant hight and number of developed node were many in 'Debla' and 'Cupra', were few in 'Special' and 'Ferrari'. Average fruits of over 200 g was harvested in 'Viper', 'Spider' and 'Debla', average fruits of range of 180~200 g was harvested in 'Special' and 'Thialf', and average fruits of range of 160~180 g was harvested in 'Scirocco' and 'Cupra'. Cultivars harvested heavy fruits except in 'Debla' was high in percentage of irregular fruit size. Number of fruit setting on plant was many in 'Cupra' and 'Ferarri', ripening first was many in 'Ferarri', 'Scirocco' and 'Viper'.

Establishment of tissue culture and acclimation of white balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorum DC. cv. Jangback) for the raising of in vitro propagated seedlings (장백도라지의 대량 증식을 위한 조직배양 및 순화 조건 확립)

  • The aim of this study was to establish the condition of regeneration for white balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorum DC. cv. Jangback) and to manage for the raising of seedling with in vitro regenerated plants. It was examined that 0.5 mg/L of NAA and 1.0 mg/L of BA was the best composition for the callus and shoot induction (up to 600%). NAA was better than IBA for the induction of root and it took 16.9 days for the induction of rooting on the MS soild media containing 0.5 mg/L of NAA and the final rooting ratio was up to 75%. Out of 5 different bed soils purchased from local market, "Tosil" was identified to be the best for the acclimation and growth of in vitro regenerated balloon flower. In detail, on 8 weeks after planting of in vitro regenerated plants in pots containing "Tosil" bed soils, the plant hight was increased up to 2-fold (12.8 cm), 3.5-fold (27) for the number of leaf and 1.5-fold (4.5 cm) for the leaf length when compared to the other four bed soils, respectively. Our preliminary results indicate that it is possible to prevent the occurrence of blue balloon flower in the massive cultivated area of white balloon flower by providing the seedlings raised from in vitro regenerated plants.

Characteristics of Seedling Quality of Rhus javanica L. 1-year-old Container Seedling by Fertilization Level (붉나무 1년생 용기묘의 시비수준별 묘목품질 특성)

  • 본 연구는 붉나무의 기능성 성분의 산업화 활용을 위한 고품질의 붉나무 1년생 용기묘 대량생산을 위해 실시되었다. 붉나무 1년생 용기묘의 묘목품질의 향상을 위해 다양한 농도의 시비처리하여 우량묘 생산에 적합한 시비수준을 구명하고자 하였다. 시비실험은 무시비구 포함하여 수용성 복합비료 (N:P:K=20:20:20, v/v)를 1,000mg·L-1, 2,000mg·L-1, 3,000mg·L-1 수준으로 실시하였다. 시비처리는 붉나무 용기묘의 간장과 근원경 생장은 1,000mg·L-1 시비처리구에서 생장이 가장 좋게 나타났으며 시비수준이 증가할수록 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 뿌리형태 특성분석에서도 전체뿌리길이, 투영단면적, 표면적 및 뿌리부피가 간장과 근원경 생장과 동일한 경향을 보이는 것으로 조사되었다. 건물 생산량은 부위별 잎, 줄기, 뿌리 및 전체가 모두 1,000mg·L-1 시비처리구에서 가장 높았으며, 그 이상의 시비수준에서는 점점 감소하는 경향을 보였다. H/D(Hight/Root collar diameter)율은 전체가 3.82(무시비구) ~ 4.90, T/R(Top/Root)율은 전체가 0.56(1,000mg·L-1 시비처리구) ~ 0.82로 조사되었다. 시비처리 에 의한 붉나무의 LWR(Leaf dry weight ratio)은 무시비구, SWR(Shoot dry weight ratio)은 3,000mg·L-1 시비처리구, 그리고 RWR(Root dry weight ratio)은 1,000mg·L-1 시비처리구에서 유의적 차이를 보이며 높게 나타났다. 묘목품질지수(QI)의 경우 1,000mg·L-1 시비처리구에서 12.13으로 다른 시비수준들보다 월등히 높았다. 본 실험의 결과를 종합하면, 뿌리발달이 좋은 우량한 붉나무 생산에 적절한 시비수준은 1,000mg·L-1 정도인 것으로 판단된다.

  • The morphotaxonomic characters and life history of Symphyocladia latiuscula (Harvey) Yamada were investigated with field and laboratory culture materials. The species is well defined by a 5-15 cm hight, entirely corticated thallus and congenital fusion of 5-7 segments between main axis and laterals. Although all the reproductive structures are basically similar to those of other species of the genus, it is characteristic that the pinnulae are transformed into the flabellated tetrasporangial stichidia. Vegetative trichoblasts are known to be absent in the Pterosiphonieae, but their presence in S latiuscula does not accept its taxonomic position in that tribe. As a result, the occurrence of vegetative trichoblast is not useful for a taxonomic character to distinguish the tribes. The species shows a Polysiphonia-type life history involving a dimorphic alternation of gametophytes and sporophytes in culture and field. It grows below the middle intertidal zone in all the coasts of Korea throughout the year, although fertile plants are normally found during the summer months.months.

Correlation Analysis on Several Factors and Collection Amount of Rhus Lacquer by the Sex of Rhus verniciflua (옻나무의 암수에 따른 주요인자와 옻채취량의 상관분석)

  • The study was conducted to investigate the correlation and regression analysis between the factors - diameter, hight and crown width - and collection amount of Rhus lacquer by the sex of Rhus verniciflua. The relationship between the diameter and the collection amount of the lacquer by the sex of the lacquer tree indicated that, for both of the male and the female, the lacquer amount was likely to increase as the diameter got larger. In general, the male trees tended towards the higher amount of the lacquer than the female. The relationship between the crown width and the collection amount of the lacquer by the sex showed little difference. As the crown became wider, however, the lacquer amount showed the increasing trend. The regression analysis by the sex of the tree indicated that the major factors of the female had larger influence on the lacquer amount than those of the male. The no differences of statistical significance were found among the diameter, the height, the crown width, and the lacquer amount.

  • This experiment was conducted to study the effects of pre-cultivation of chines milk vetch (Astragulas sinicus L.) on rice (Oryza sativa L, cv. Daecheongbye) growth and development. This experiment treatments were conducted by eight ; control 1 (stardard fertilizer ; N:P:K=0.3:0.2:0.2g/pot), control 2 (none fertilizer), root of C.M.V (chines milk vetch), shoot of C.M.V, whole plant of C.M.V, and root, shoot and whole plant of C.M.V+fertilizing N. Plant hight of rice was more than that control 1 in maximum tillering stage, heading stage and ripening stage. Tillering numbers per hill were the most in whole plant of C.M.V+fertilizing as whole growth and development period. And panicle per hill, spikelet per paincle, filled grain ratio and 1,000 grain weight were more in fertilized C.M.V than those control 1.

Genetic Variation in Among Cultivated Field Populations of Korean Ginseng(Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer) Using RAPD (RAPD marker를 이용한 고려인삼(Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer)의 유전적 변이 분석)

  • Genetic variation in field grown Korean ginseng(Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer) was evaluated using random amplified polymorphic(RAPD) markers. (This experiment was carried to collect the local native from farm of Chungnam National University in Korea in order to investigate genetic variation.) Some morphological characters showed considerable variation ranging 22 to 68cm in plant hight, 10 to 38mm in root diameter, 16 to 86g in root weight, and culum color and flowering date, respectively. Ten RAPD primers out of the 32 which produced reproducible bands in 662 Korean ginseng plants were selected for the further study. The total number of bands generated by 10 primers were 108 and among them 103 were polymorphic among the 662 plants with the polymorphism ratio of 94.5%. A total of 662 plants were classified into 16 groups based on polymorphic data with an URP 05 primer.
