  • Berchemia berchemiaefolia is a native a native rare plant which has been designating as the Natural Monument, No. 266, since 1980. The floristic composition, population structure and maintenance mechanism of the Berchemia berchemiaefolia forest were investigated in conjunction with the habitat consisted of the block field or screes. Through the present study, the authors found a new habitat of Berchemia berchemiaefolia in the northeastern slope on Mt. Kumdansan located at Hajeok-ri, Cheongcheon-myeon, Koesan-gun, chungbuk province. Gravels consisted of the block field belonged to granule, pebble and cobble as the range of grain size, $\Phi$=-1.5~6.6 values. The tree layer of Berchemia berchemiaefolia community was mainly composed of Quercus variabilis, Pinus densiflora and Q. serrata including Berchemia berchemiaefolia and of this community were similar to that of Q. variabilis. By the age distribution, it was considered that the community was a discontinued one as the pattern of distribution was a normal distribution type(N type). Phenological cycle including leafing, blooming and seed-bearing period between both sites of block field and valley or close canopy showed some differences. The seed production of Berchemia berchemiaefolia was 8, 655, 000 seeds/ha/year, but only 406, 000 seeds/ha/year of them were developed as saplings, and only 4 saplings were developed to mature trees.

  • The performances of the building service equipment relay on the individual superintendent's share for the assessment of performance, fault detection, deterioration diagnosis of the building service equipment. A major use of building energy management system(BEMS) is for monitoring plant and building's energy consumption. National building management system (N-BMS) presented in this study links buildings into a network group in order to monitor and control the buildings. How to construct the N-BMS was considered to save energy resource and to conserve performance of building service equipment. The FEMIS, facility, energy/environmental management & information system, for building service offer management process integrated with BAS, FMS and EMS and so on.

  • The normal shutdown and maintenance period of a nuclear power plant can be remarkably shortened when the examination and maintenance works in steam generator tubes are simultaneously carried out with refueling job. There are nozzle dams to Hock the coolant How from reactor to steam generator. Workers are reluctant to install nozzle dam because of the high radiation exposure and the limited working space in steam generator. Moreover, the heavy weight of present nozzle dam makes it installation and removal works much difficult. In this paper, a lighter KAERI nozzle dam with increased flexural rigidity-to-weight was designed and manufactured by changing the structure design of the present nozzle dam and by selecting new material, carbon fiber-reinforced plastic.

  • The cost for maintenance (replacement cost) of Ni-superalloy components in plant industry is very expensive because of high unit price of INCONEL 718. A development of repairing technology using kinetic spray process can be very helpful for reducing the maintenance cost. However, it is very difficult to produce well-deposited INCONEL 718 layer showing high interfacial bond strength via kinetic spraying. Thus, INCONEL 718 was deposited on SCM 440 substrate and the interfacial properties were investigated, in order to elucidate the cause of hindrance to the bonding between INCONEL 718 layer and SCM 440 substrate. As a result, it was revealed that the dominant obstacle to the interfacial bonding was excessive compressive residual stress accumulated in the coating layer, resulting from low plastic-deformation susceptibility of INCONEL 718. Nevertheless, the bonding state was enhanced by the post heat-treatment through relieving the residual stress and generating a diffusion/metallurgical bonding between the INCONEL 718 deposit and SCM 440 substrate.

  • In smart factories and industrial IoT, all facilities in a factory are monitored over the Internet, thereby facility can reduce the downtime and increase the availiability by preventive maintenance before it breaks down. The abnormal conditions of the major facilities in the plant are caused by abnormal temperature rise, vibration, and variations in noise. Consequently, it is critical to develop a very small smart device that is easily installed in a small space to enable real-time monitoring of the vibration status of the facility. In this study, smart devices were developed for smart factory fault prediction and robustness management using ultra small micro-controllers with WiFi capabilities and MEMS acceleration sensors.

  • In 2014, ISO 55000s has been enacted and the power plant asset management is becoming a hot issue for all over the world. The asset management system is being developed as a combination of CBM(Condition Based Maintenance) and RCM(Reliability Centered Maintenance). Therefore, the research on the calculation of the failure rate which is the most basic index of RCM is actively carried out. The failure rate calculation has been going on for a long time, and the most widely used probability distribution is the Weibull distribution. In the Weibull distribution, the failure rate function is determined in three types according to the value of the shape parameter. However, the Weibull distribution has a limitation that it is difficult to apply it when the trend of failure rate changes-such as bathtub curves. In this paper, the failure rate is calculated using the mixture Weibull distribution which can appropriately express the change of the shape of the failure rate. Based on these results, we propose the necessity and validity of applying mixture Weibull distribution.

  • Recently a number of researches about mechanical splice have been studied to apply on a large diameter reinforcing steel bars of spliced sleeves. In this study the structural performance of large diameter reinforcing bars with spliced sleeves was evaluated. For the application of nuclear power plant structures, two different types of existing splices with #11, 14, 18 rebars were fabricated and static and dynamic test were performed on the basis of ASME SEC III DIV.2CC-4330.

  • Uncertain time delay happens when the process reads the sensor data and sends the control input to the plant located at a remote site in distributed control system. As in the case of data network using TCP/IP, VDN that integrates both device network and data network has uncertain time delay. Uncertain time delay can cause degradation in performance and stability of distributed control system based on VDN. This paper first investigates the transmission characteristic of VDN and suggests a control scheme based on the Smith's predictor to minimize the effect of uncertain varying time delay. The validity of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated with real-time velocity control of DC servo motor located in remote site.

  • Predicting the failure life of automated manufacturing systems can reduce overall downtime, maintenance costs, and total plant operation costs. Therefore, there is a growing interest in fatigue failure mechanisms as the safety or service life assessment of manufacturing systems becomes an important issue. In particular, fretting fatigue is caused by repeated tangential stresses that are generated by friction during small amplitude oscillatory movements or sliding between two surfaces pressed together in intimate contact. Previous studies in fretting fatigue have observed size effects related to contact width such that a critical contact width exists where there is drastic change in the fretting fatigue life. However, most of them are the two-dimensional finite element analyses based on the plane strain assumption. The purpose of this study is to investigate the contact size effects on the three-dimensional finite element model of a finite width of a flat specimen and a cylindrical pad exposed to fretting fatigue. The contact size effects were analyzed by means of the stress and strain averages at the element integration points of three-dimensional finite element model. This study shows that the fretting fatigue life of manufacturing systems can be predicted by three-dimensional finite element analysis based on SWT critical plane model.

  • Concerns about high radiation exposure to the hands of radiation workers who may contact with radioactive contamination on surfaces in a nuclear power plant (NPP) had been raised, and the Korean regulatory body required the extremity dose estimation during contact tasks with radioactive materials. Korean NPPs conducted field tests to identify the incident radiation to the hands of radiation workers who may contact with radioactive contamination during maintenance periods. The results showed that the radiation fields for contact tasks are dominated by high energy photons. It was also found that the radiation doses to the hands of radiation workers in Korean NPPs were much less than the annual dose limits for extremities. This approach can be applicable to measure and estimate the extremity dose to the hands of medical workers who handle the radioactive materials in a hospital.
