  • In this paper, a novel design for a triple-band coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed monopole antenna for WLAN/WiMAX operations is proposed. The proposed antenna is printed on an FR4 substrate with an area of 22.0 mm × 30.0 mm, a thickness of 1.0 mm, and a relative permittivity of 4.4. The effects of various parameters of the proposed for triple band operation is investigated. Two half circular rings and a microstrip feed line are fabricated on the substrate to achieve triple band operation and good impedance matching. Prototypes of the proposed antenna have been fabricated and tested. Experiment results reveal that the measured return loss exhibits an acceptable agreement with the simulated return loss and satisfies the impedance bandwidth requirement of -10 dB, while simultaneously covering the WLAN and WiMAX bands. In addition, the proposed antenna shows good radiation characteristics and gains in the three operating bands.

  • This paper describes some development of Computer-Aided Process Planning System for cold-forging of rotationally symmetric parts(soild shape and solid-can combined shape) produced by the presses or formers. Using the developed system, forming sequences for producing final product are generated as graphic forms and process names, preform dimensions and process parameters(load, punch pressure, die pressure) are generated as routing sheets. Konwledges for forming sequence and process parameters are extracted from process limitations, plasticity theories, handbooks, relevent refferences and empirical know-how of experts in cold forging companies. Among extracted knowldeges, general and consistent knowledges are represented as design rules and are constructed as knowledge base. The developed system provides more powerful tool for through checking the producibilities of design, conformation of appropriate forming sequences and discoveries of new possibility. The results of the developed system are in good agreement with the practical data.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop menu planning in the elementary food service system. This survey conducted in 10 elementary schools located in Inchon area. Among 300 questionnaires, 258 responses were collected and were analyzed by SAS program. Household income levels, food habits and preference of menu were investigated using frequency and percentiles with chi-square test. The result showed that mostly people belonged to lower middle income classes. As for preference of school food service menu, elementary students chose correction of unbalanced diet and good nutrition, while mothers of them ranked correction of unbalanced diet and convenience of preparing food. Regardness of mothers for menu preference of the elementary school students came to an agreement overall.

  • Snowdrifts around buildings can cause serious problems when formed on undesirable places. The formation of snowdrifts is highly connected to the wind pattern around the building, and the wind pattern is again dependent on the building design. The shear stress on the surface and snowdrifting around different buildings are investigated through CFD analysis and compared to measurements. The computations of shear stress shows local minima in the same areas as snowdrifts are formed. The snowdrifting computations utilises a drift-flux model where a fluid with snow properties is allowed to drift through a fluid with air properties. An apparent dynamic viscosity of the snow/air mixture is defined and used as a threshold criterion for snowdrifting. The results from the snowdrifting computations show increased snow density where snowdrifts are expected, and are in agreement with previous large-scale snowdrift measurements. The results show that computational fluid dynamics can be a tool for planning building design in snowdrifting areas.

  • As for an oil hydraulic vane pump of vehicle hydraulic systems, the highest of planning technique required by the acquisition of optimum profile data which can be available to predict noises and vibrations. Pressure pulsation may result in considerable vibration and noise of pump component as well as cavitation in hydraulic system. The influences of the discharge pressure and rotating speed of the vane on the dynamic pressure in chamber surrounding a vane have been investigated. It is very important to predict pressure pulsation in vane pump. This paper presents analysis of technique of vane pump for automatic transmission. The predicted result using AMESim model were good agreement with the experimentally obtained results.

  • c-PMS(collaborative project management system) is a business process(BP) based tool to manage collaborative projects which accomplish common business objectives determined by mutual agreement of companies using limited resources and time. This study analyzes collaborative BP, collaborative projects, and their relation, and proposes the architecture and operation scenario of c-PMS consisted of business process asset management(BPAM) sub-system and project manage(PM) sub-system. BPAM sub-system models private and public BP using a client/server based modeler, defines collaborative BPs process from public BPs, and manages them as companies' asset on a web portal. PM sub-system globally manages collaborative project using planning, execution, monitoring, and analyzing functions.

  • Analytical criteria for the onset of fuel fragmentation and Burst Fission Gas Release in fuel rods with ballooned claddings are formulated. On that basis, the GRSW-A model integrated with a fuel behaviour code is updated. After modification, the updated code is successfully applied to simulation of the Halden LOCA test IFA-650.12. Specifically, the calculation with Burst Fission Gas Release during the test resulted in prediction of cladding failure, whereas it could not be predicted at the test planning, before new models were implemented. A good agreement of the current model with experimental data for transient Fission Gas Release in the tests IFA-650.12 and IFA-650.14 is shown, as well.

  • The current flowing through the overhead transmission lines causes induced voltage on the communication lines, which can be prevented by calculating the induced voltage at the planning stage for overhead transmission line installment through an agreement between the communication and electric power companies. The procedures to calculate the induced voltages, however, are complicated due to the variety of parameters and tower types of the overhead transmission lines. The difficulty necessitates the development of a simulator to measure the induced voltage on the communication lines. This paper presents two simulators developed for this purpose; one using the Data Base (DB) index method and the other using the Graphic User Interface (GUI) method. The simulators described in this paper have been implemented by the EMTP (Electromagnetic Transient Program).

  • For the last 14 years, space-borne satellite SAR system such as RADARSAT-1, ERS-2, and ENVISAT ASAR have provided a continuous observation over the ocean. However, the data acquired from those systems were limited to C-band frequency until the advent of the first spacebome German X-band SAR system TerraSAR-X in 2007. Korea is also planning to launch the nation's first X-band SAR satellite (KOMPSAT-5) in 2010. It is timely and necessary to develop X-band models for estimating geophysical parameters from these X-band SAR systems. In this study, X-band wind retrieval model was investigated and developed based on numerical ocean scattering model (radar backscattering model and hydrodynamic interaction model). Although these models have not yet been tested and validated for broad ranges of wind conditions, the estimated wind speeds from TerraSAR-X data show generally good agreement with in-situ measurements.

  • We present quantitative estimations of changes in the areal extent of coral reef habitats at Weno Island, Micronesia, using high-spatial-resolution remote sensing images and field observations. Coral reef habitat maps were generated from Kompsat-2 satellite images for September 2008 and September 2010, yielding classifications with 78.6% and 72.4% accuracy, respectively, which is a relatively high level of agreement. The difference between the number of pixels occupied by each seabed type was calculated, revealing that the areal extent of living corals decreased by 8.2 percentage points between 2008 and 2010. This result is consistent with a comparison of the seabed types determined by field observations. This study can be used as a basis for remediation planning to diminish the impact of changes in coral reefs.
