The emergence of high resolution satellite images and the evolution of spatial resolution facilitate various studies using high resolution satellite images. Above all, target detection algorithms are effective for monitoring of traffic flow and military surveillance and reconnaissance because vehicles, airplanes, and ships on broad area could be detected easily using high resolution satellite images. Recently, many satellites are launched from global countries and the diversity of satellite images are also increased. On the contrary, studies on comparison about the spatial resolution or target detection, especially, are insufficient in domestic and foreign countries. Therefore, in this study, effects of spatial resolution on target detection are analyzed using the PSO target detection algorithm. The resampling techniques such as nearest neighbor, bilinear, and cubic convolution are adopted to resize the original image into 0.5m, 1m, 2m, 4m spatial resolutions. Then, accuracy of target detection is assessed according to not only spatial resolution but also resampling method. As a result of the study, the resolution of 0.5m and nearest neighbor among the resampling methods have the best accuracy. Additionally, it is necessary to satisfy the criteria of 2m and 4m resolution for the detection of airplane and ship, respectively. The detection of airplane need more high spatial resolution than ship because of their complexity of shape. This research suggests the appropriate spatial resolution for the plane and ship target detection and contributes to the criteria of satellite sensor design.

In this paper, using a wide-band AE sensor with the frequency range from 100[kHz] to 1.5[kHz], the frequency spectra of AE signals generated from the corona discharges of the needle-plane gap and from the partial discharges of an epoxy void were analyzed to determine the proper ultrasonic sensor with optimum frequency range according to the patterns of corona discharges. We also examined the propagation characteristics of AE signals in oil and the relationship between the magnitude of corona discharge and the magnitude of AE signals in peak-to-peak value under the application of 60[Hz] ac high-voltage. From these results, the main frequency spectra of AE signals emitted from the corona discharges of the needle-plane gap were about 130[kHz] by the fast fourier transform, but the main frequency spectra appeared to be 230[kHz] in the partial discharges of an epoxy void. The magnitude of AE signals was proportional to the magnitude of corona discharge and discharge current pulse with increasing the applied voltages.

By comparing MIRIS Paschen-${\alpha}$ ($Pa{\alpha}$) Galactic Plane Survey (MIPAPS) data with Anderson's H II region catalog (the most complete Galactic H II region catalog up to date), we confirmed $Pa{\alpha}$ detections from ~50% of the H II region candidates in Cepheus (Galactic longitude from $+96^{\circ}$ to $116^{\circ}$). The detection of the hydrogen recombination line identifies these candidates as clear H II regions. If we extend this result to the whole plane, more than 1000 candidates are expected to be identified as H II regions. In this contribution, we present the results of quantitative estimations (brightness, size, etc.) for the $Pa{\alpha}$ blobs detected in Cepheus. To obtain intensity of $Pa{\alpha}$ emission line, we perform background and point spread function (PSF) matching between two filter images (line and continuum filters) as well as flux calibration.

This paper deals with analysis of the characteristics of mobile robot's motion by automatic detection of markers on a robot using a camera. Analysis of motion behaviors according to parameters is important in developing control algorithm for robot operation or autonomous navigation. For this purpose, we use four chessboard patterns on the robot. Their location on the robot is adjusted to be on single plane. Homography is used to compute the actual amount of movement of the robot. Presented method is tested using P3-AT robot and it gives reliable results.
Novel optical techniques are presented for three-dimensional tracking of nanoparticles; Optical Serial Sectioning Microscopy (OSSM) and Ratiometric Total Internal Reflection Fluorescent Microscopy (R-TIRFM). OSSM measures optically diffracted particle images, the so-called Point Spread Function (PSF), and dotermines the defocusing or line-of-sight location of the imaged particle measured from the focal plane. The line-of-sight Brownian motion detection using the OSSM technique is proposed in lieu of the more cumbersome two-dimensional Brownian motion tracking on the imaging plane as a potentially more effective tool to nonintrusively map the temperature fields for nanoparticle suspension fluids. On the other hand, R-TIRFM is presented to experimentally examine the classic theory on the near-wall hindered Brownian diffusive motion. An evanescent wave field from the total internal reflection of a 488-nm bandwidth of an argon-ion laser is used to provide a thin illumination field of an order of a few hundred nanometers from the wall. The experimental results show good agreement with the lateral hindrance theory, but show discrepancies from the normal hindrance theory. It is conjectured that the discrepancies can be attributed to the additional hindering effects, including electrostatic and electro-osmotic interactions between the negatively charged tracer particles and the glass surface.
One most feasible way to measure the concentration field in the micro-channel is using micro-LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence) method. However, an accurate concentration field at a given cross plane in a micro-channel has not been successfully achieved so far due to various limitations in the light illumination and fluorescence signal detection. The present study demonstrates a novel method to provide an ultra thin laser sheet beam having five(5) microns thickness by use of a micro focus laser line generator. The laser sheet beam illuminates an exact plane of concentration measurement field to increase the signal to noise ratio and considerably reduce the depth uncertainty. Nile Blue A was used as fluorescent dye for the present LIF measurement. The enhancement of the fluorescent intensity signals was performed by a solvent mixture of water $(95\%)$ and ethanol (EtOH)/methanol (MeOH) $(5\%)$ mixture. To reduce the rms errors resulted from the CCD electronic noise and other sources, an expansion of grid size was attempted from $1\times1$ to 3(3 or 5(5 pixel data windows and the pertinent signal-to-noise level has been noticeably increased accordingly.

Mechanical designers often make mistakes that result in unwanted over-constraints, causing difficulty in assembly operations and residual stress due to interference among parts. This study is concerned with detection and elimination of over-constraints. Screw theory is a general method that is used for constraint analysis of an assembly and motion analysis of a mechanism. Mechanical assemblies with plane-plane, pin-hole, and pin-slot constraint pairs are analyzed using screw theory to illustrate its utility. As a real-world problem, a ball valve design is analyzed using the same method, and several unwanted over-constraints are detected. Elimination measures are proposed. Nominal dimensions of some parts are adjusted, and dimensions and tolerances of the pins and holes are modified using the virtual condition boundary concept. The revised design is free of over-constraints. General procedure for applying screw theory to constraint analysis is established and demonstrated; it will contribute to improving quality of assembly designs.

The stability forecasting of rock slope is more difficult than soil slope because catching the sign of failure in monitoring is not easy and deformation of the rock is small in failure process. But in the rock slope, there is small deformation like crack propagation in rock itself and it accumulates gradually in failure process. If it is possible to detect the small change in the rock slope, we can know the failure time exactly. Because the individual signal is gathered in the acoustic emission monitoring, it is possible to monitoring the slope if many sound signal is accumulated. Detection test of acoustic emission was performed. Uniaxial, two types of bending test, and two plane shear test were done with various cement paste sample. Wave propagation velocity of uniaxial test sample was increased with curing time. Wave Analysis give us the result that there is a AE sign signal before the failure, the AE count is suddenly increased. And frequency level 125kHz before failure is changed to level 200-250kHz after failure. In two plane shear test we can catch the AE signal and can know the failure type from wave shape. Monitoring test site is tunnel slope in Hongcheon but special signal is not collected.

In this paper, we propose a technique to estimate the coordinates of feature points existing on a 2D planar object in the three dimensional space. The proposed method detects multiple 3D features from the image, and excludes those which are not located on the plane. The proposed technique estimates the planar homography between the planar object in the 3D space and the camera image plane, and computes back-projection error of each feature point on the planar object. Then any feature points which have large error is considered as off-plane points and are excluded from the feature estimation phase. The proposed method is archived on the basis of the planar homography without any additional sensors or optimization algorithms. In the expretiments, it was confirmed that the speed of the proposed method is more than 40 frames per second. In addition, compared to the RGB-D camera, there was no significant difference in processing speed, and it was verified that the frame rate was unaffected even in the situation that the number of detected feature points continuously increased.
