The time simulation of slow drift motions of moored FPSO in waves is presented. The equation of motion based on Cummin's theory of impulse responses are employed, and are consisted of horizontal plane motions such as surge, sway and yaw. The added mass, wave damping coefficients, first order wave exciting forces and the second order wave drift forces involved in the equations are obtained from three-dimensional panel method in the frequency domain. The mooring lines are modeled as quasi-static catenary cable. As a numerical example, time domain analyses are carried out for a box-type FPSO in long crest irregular wave condition.

The surge motion of a freely-floating sphere in a regular wave is studied within the framework of a linear potential theory. The fluid is assumed to be perfect and only the steady-state harmonic motion in a water of infinite depth is considered. A velocity potential describing the fluid motion is decomposed into three parts; the incident wave potential, the diffraction potential and the radiation potential. In this paper the diffraction potential and the radiation potential are analysed by using multipole expansion method. Upon calculating pressures over the immersed surface of the sphere, the hydrodynamic forces are evaluated in terms of Froude-Krylov, diffraction, added mass and damping forces as functions of the frequency of the incident wave. Finally the frequency dependence of two pertinent parameters, the amplitude ratio and the phase lag between the motion of the sphere and that of the incident wave is derived from the equation of motion. As for numerical results the general tendency of the present calculation shows good agreement with Kim's work who also treated this problem utilizing the Green's function method.

The array patterns of a patch array antenna were calculated using an active element pattern (AEP) method that considers ground edge effects. The classical equivalent radiation model of the patch antenna, which is characterized by two radiating slots, was adopted, and the AEPs that include mutual coupling were precisely calculated using full-wave simulated S-parameters. To improve the accuracy of the calculation, the edge diffraction of a ground plane was incorporated into AEP using the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction. The array patterns were then calculated on the basis of the computed AEPs. The array patterns obtained through the conventional AEP approach and the AEP method that takes ground edge effects into account were compared with the findings derived through full-wave simulations conducted using a High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) and FEKO software. Results showed that the array patterns calculated using the proposed AEP method are more accurate than those derived using the conventional AEP technique, especially under a small number of array elements or under increased steering angles.

The acoustic field resulted by the radiation of sound from vibrating structure is predicted based on the sound pressure measurements. The sound pressures are measured at discreate point on the measurement plane ; Hologram. Based on these discreate measurements, the sound field away from the acoustic source is constructed based on the discreate form of Kirchhoff-Helmohltz integral equations The velocities, intensities, and pressures of arbitrary plane of interest in space are predicted and visualized The effects on the sound field reconstruction ; finite aperture effect, effect of finite sampling interval in space studied in terms of wraparound error and spatial aliasing. Numerical simulations and experimental verifications are performed to see these effects. To reduce the wraparound error, zero padding technique in space is used and the usefulness of the method is demonstrated by various examples.
The magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) and the saturation magnetization $B_s$ of (110) $Fe_nCo_n$ heterostructures with n = 1, 2, and 3 are investigated in first-principles within the density functional theory by using the precise full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method. We compare the results employing two different exchange correlation potentials, that is, the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), and include the spin-orbit coupling interaction of the valence states in the second variational way. The MAE is found to be enhanced significantly compared to those of bulk Fe and Co and the magnetic easy axis is in-plane in agreement with experiment. Also the MAE exhibits the in-plane angle dependence with a two-fold anisotropy showing that the $[1{\overline{I}}0]$ direction is the most favored spin direction. We found that as the periodicity increases, (i) the saturation magnetization $B_s$ decreases due to the reduced magnetic moment of Fe far from the interface, (ii) the strength of in-plane preference of spin direction increases yielding enhancement of MAE, and (iii) the volume anisotropy coefficient decreases because the volume increase outdo the MAE enhancement.

This paper describes two different theories used to model the scattering of ultrasound by a volumetric flaw and a crack-like flaw. The elastodynamic Kirchhoff approximation (EKA) and the geometrical theory of diffraction (GTD) are applied respectively to a cylindrical cavity and a semi-infinite crack. These methods are known as high frequency approximations. The 2-D elastodynamic scattering problems of a plane wave incident on these model defects are considered and the scattered fields are expressed in terms of the reflection and diffraction coefficients. The ratio of the scattered far field amplitude to the incident wave amplitude is computed as a function of the angular location and compared with the boundary element solutions.
Within the scope of the plane-strain state, by utilizing the three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in initially stressed piezoelectric and elastic materials, Lamb wave propagation and the influence of the initial stresses on this propagation in a sandwich plate with pre-stressed piezoelectric face and pre-stressed metal elastic core layers are investigated. Dispersion equations are derived for the extensional and flexural Lamb waves and, as a result of numerical solution to these equations, the corresponding dispersion curves for the first (fundamental) and second modes are constructed. Concrete numerical results are obtained for the cases where the face layers' materials are PZT-2 or PZT-6B, but the material of the middle layer is Steel (St) or Aluminum (Al). Sandwich plates PZT-2/St/PZT-2, PZT-2/Al/PZT-2, PZT-6B/St/PZT-6B and PZT-6B/Al/PZT-6B are examined and the influence of the problem parameters such as piezoelectric and dielectric constants, layer thickness ratios and third order elastic constants of the St and Al on the effects of the initial stresses on the wave propagation velocity is studied.

The wave washer springs are expected to behave non-linearly between forces and displace¬ments due to contractions of the height and due to expansions in radial direction. To find out the non -linearity of wave washer springs, the three dimensional plate analysis theory using the finite element method is adopted in this paper. The wave washer springs are considered to be three dimensional plate structures rather than frame structures, because their thickness is normally much smaller than their width. The displacements of nodal points due to small increment of force are calculated by the finite element method and the calculated nodal displacements are added to X - Y Z coordinates of nodal points. The new stiffness matrix of the system using the new coordinates of nodal points is adopted to calculate the another nodal displacements, that is, the step by step method is used in this paper. The relations between the increments of forces and displacements in each step are recorded and plotted in chart. The experimental results are compared with the calculated chart and it is shown that there are good coincidences between measured values and calculated ones.
In this paper, we established the generalized thermoelasticity phenomenon in an isotropic elastic medium considering the electromagnetic field, rotation and two-temperature. Three theories of generalized thermoelasticity have been applied: Lord-Shulman (one relaxation time), Green-Lindsay (two relaxation times), as well as the coupled theory. We discussed some particular cases in the context of the wave propagation phenomenon in thermoelasticity. From solving the fundamental equations, we arrived that there are three waves: P-, T- and SV-waves that we calculated their velocities. The boundary conditions for mechanical stress and Maxwell's stress and thermal insulated or isothermal have been applied to determine the amplitudes ratios (reflection coefficients) for P-, T - and SV waves. Some utilitarian aspects are obtained from the reflection coefficients, presented graphically, and the new conclusions have been presented. Comparisons are made for the results predicted by different theories (CT, LS, GL) in the absence and presence of the electro-magnetic field, rotation, as well as two-temperature on the reflection of generalized thermoelastic waves. The results obtained concluded that the external parameters as the angle of incidence, electromagnetic field, rotation as well as the theories parameters have strong effect on the phenomenon.
This study aims to present a three dimensional finite element model to investigate the wave propagation in a concrete filled steel tubular column (CFSC) due to transient impact load. Both the concrete and steel are regarded as linear elastic material. The impact load is simulated by a semi sinusoidal impulse. Besides the CFSC models, a concrete column (CC) model is established for comparing under the same loading condition. The propagation characteristics of the transient waves in CFSC are analyzed in detail. The results show that at the intial stage of the wave propagation, the velocity waves in CFSC are almost the same as those in CC before they arrive at the steel tube. When the waves reach the column side, the velocity responses of CFSC are different from those of CC and the difference is more and more obvious as the waves travel down along the column shaft. The travel distance of the wave front in CFSC is farther than that in CC at the same time. For different wave speeds in steel and concrete material, the wave front in CFSC presents an arch shape, the apex of which locates at the center of the column. Differently, the wave front in CC presents a plane surface. Three dimensional effects on top of CFSC are obvious, therefore, the peak value and arrival time of incident wave crests have great difference at different locations in the radial direction. High-frequency waves on the waveforms are observed. The time difference between incident and reflected wave peaks decreases significantly with r/R when r/R < 0.6, however, it almost keeps constant when $r/R{\geq}0.6$. The time duration between incident and reflected waves calculated by 3D FEM is approximately equal to that calculated by 1D wave theory when r/R is about 2/3.
