  • Competing risk analysis is widely applied to analyze a failure time with more than two causes. This paper discusses the application of a competing risk model to a economic activity state of workers with occupational injuries. In particular, main interest is to estimate the distribution of restarting time two kinds of economic activities, (i) returning to original working place and (ii) finding a new job. In this paper, we applied a cumulative incidence function to evaluate their patterns under several individual factors and working place's factor. Furthermore, a subdistributional regression model is applied to estimate the effect of these factors on the returning time. According to result, worker with higher education, younger age and longer working period had a higher chance to return an original working place while one with more severe injuries and skilled laborer had longer returning time to an original working place.

  • A survey on Korean families′purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables was conducted to increase understanding of families′food decision making. Two hundred ninety seven families with at least one elementary-school age child were selected from four elementary schools to complete a questionnaire during April, 2001 in Gyeongju, Korea. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, T-test, and ANOVA statistics were used to analyze the data. The major findings are as follows: Families bought fresh fruits and vegetables at the public markets or the farmer′s markets and a large supermarket most frequently in both summer and winter. Families grew produce by themselves and bought them from farmers directly least frequently in both summer and winter. Families whose housewives had less than middle school education brought fruits and vegetables from Agricultural Co-ops and grew thens by themselves more frequently compared to those who had higher education. On the other hand, families whose housewives had graduated from 4 year college bought fruits and vegetables from large supermarkets more frequently compared to those who had lesser education. "Quality"and "safety production"of fruits and vegetables and "clean environment of store"were the three most important factors when they decided the place to buy fruits and vegetables. "Being treated as a valuable customer" and "ease of finding things"were the two least important factors. Families whose housewives were in their thirties valued "cleanness of the store"and "being treated as a valuable customer"important factors when they decided the place. Families whose housewives had less than middle school education thought that price, availability of public transportation, and availability of locally grown food were the important factors for deciding the place compared to those who had higher education. The price was the factor which low-income families thought important for decision making on the place to buy fruits and vegetables.

  • This paper describes a microwave direction finding technology which is used for RF signal acquisition and monitoring systems. This paper suggests a direction finding method which use a combination of the amplitude-comparison technology and the phase-comparison technology. The amplitude-comparison technology uses the amplitude difference of the RF signals received from the array antennas of direction finding system and removes the ambiguity of wave incident bearing. The phase-comparison technology uses the phase difference of the RF signals received from the same nay antennas and makes a good direction finding accuracy. The suggested direction finding technology is designed to place 8 array antennas in a $45^{\circ}$ distance around the circle for $360^{\circ}$ azimuth angle. Also it is designed to use the phase difference of the received signals ken two nearby antennas to measure the signal incident direction accurately and to use the amplitude difference to remove the ambiguity of wave incident bearing. The simulation and measurement results are under $0.5^{\circ}$ bearing error in $2.0\~6.0$ GHz when SNR is 30 dB.

  • This paper proposes an exploration strategy to efficiently find a specific place in large unknown environments with wall-following based path planning. Many exploration methods proposed so far showed good performance but they focused only on efficient planning for modeling unknown environments. Therefore, to successfully accomplish the room finding task, two additional requirements should be considered. First, suitable path-planning is needed to recognize the room number. Most conventional exploration schemes used the gradient method to extract the optimal path. In these schemes, the paths are extracted in the middle of the free space which is usually far from the wall. If the robot follows such a path, it is not likely to recognize the room number written on the wall because room numbers are usually too small to be recognized by camera image from a distance. Second, the behavior which re-explores the explored area is needed. Even though the robot completes exploration, it is possible that some rooms are not registered in the constructed map for some reasons such as poor recognition performance, occlusion by a human and so on. With this scheme, the robot does not have to visit and model the whole environment. This proposed method is very simple but it guarantees that the robot can find a specific room in most cases. The proposed exploration strategy was verified by various experiments.

  • The origin of Minivan styled RV dates all the way back to the year 1959 when Volkswagen introduced the Microbus in Germany. But the new category of "Minivan" was made, and first used by Chrysler. This was when Chrysler revealed a new vehicle in 1982 named "Minivan". Minivan was successful in gathering the public attention with it′s multi-purpose characteristic. Ever since, many models were introduced in this category by various auto-makers around the world, which made the Minivan segment very competitive. Various Minivans were also introduced by the Korean auto-makers and these models have been finding their place rapidly in the market owing to their unique characteristics. But the reason for the growth of the Minivan category in Korea was quite different from that of other nations. Through out this thesis, the possibilities of a Minivan that can full fill the needs of a new life style of a family in the basis of various documentary records will be discussed. Ways of making roads, where bigger sized Minivans are continuously increasing, more efficient will also be considered. The main topic of this thesis will be about Minivan styled RV(Recreational vehicle) in relation to the change of Korean life style.
