  • The purpose of this study is to identify characteristics of spatial structure of Jiangnan water town in China which has been developed along the water channel. Spatial structural characteristics of the water town, Wuzhen and Nanxun in Zhejiang Province are as follows. First, location of town, spatial framework, lot division, and architectural style get determined by the water channel. The water channel is constructed in cross shape, T-shape, or in combination. Secondly, public space of water town is established along main water channel. Visually and functionally alternating private buildings are established on the water channel side and they are creating unique landscape of Jiangnan water town in overall harmony. Thirdly, residential area is established on the east-west water channel side with southward sunny-faced arrangement and waterside residence is in introvert spatial structure with courtyard but the exterior space is connected with water channel intimately. Fourthly, various spatial components along the water channel enrich the sense of place in water town. The components are corridor with roof, tea house, waterside steps, waterside theater and watergate etc. Uniqueness of place is becoming the core competence in modern townscape. In this aspect, Jiangnan water town with historical and cultural accumulation is suggesting a significant implication. Major implications are as follows. First, promotion of proximity to the water is the basic value that the spatial plan of waterfront needs to pursue. Secondly, mixed use is essential for effective land use and revitalization of waterfront. Thirdly, waterfront plan based on the local uniqueness as the place asset is being required.

  • Recently, the paradigm of SOC investment has shifted from new construction to maintenance. This shift became more important for the highway system because it is as one of the most important SOC. In Korea, highway maintenance costs are about 20% of the total annual highway construction budget, which is about two-thirds of developed countries. In addition, establishing standardized guidelines for the highway maintenance operation is not in place. Therefore, in order for domestic road construction and maintenance technology to secure competitiveness in the global construction market, it is urgent to improve the management capacity for maintenance as well as the technology and management capacity. This study examines highway maintenance practices in OECD countries such as North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan to identify core elements of highway maintenance practice. It is imperative to establish a comprehensive management system based upon asset management principle. Even if the budget for the highway construction is reduced, investment in maintenance needs to be maintained.

  • With rapid advancements taking place in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, human-robot interactions have been garnering increasing attention. Robots are being actively adopted in building systems and facilities. In this study, we developed robot-friendly building certification indicators. Because these indicators were being developed for the first time, we focused only on commercial buildings. We conducted exploratory research using methodologies such as focus group interviews and the analytic hierarchy process. First, the concept of the robot-friendly building was defined through focus group interviews, and the requirements were categorized by the appropriateness of operating facilities and systems and the appropriateness of architectural and robot operating systems and networks. Next, the relative importance of the evaluation items (23 items in total) was calculated using the analytic hierarchy process. Their average score of the marks was 4.4, and the minimum and maximum were 2.0 and 11.3, respectively. This study is significant because we collected the basic data necessary to develop a one-of-its-kind evaluation system for certifying the robot-friendliness of buildings using scientific methods.

  • For most organizations, a security infrastructure to protect company's core information and their technology is becoming increasingly important. So various approaches to information security have been made but many security accidents are still taking place. In fact, for many Korean companies, information security is perceived as an expense, not an asset. In order to change this perception, it is very important to recognize the need for information security and to find a rational approach for information security. The purpose of this study is to present a framework for information security strategies of companies. The framework classifies companies into eight types so company can receive help in making decisions for the development of information security strategy depending on the type of company it belongs to. To develope measures to classify the types of companies, 12 information security professionals have done brainstorming, and based on previous studies, among the factors that have been demonstrated to be able to influence the information security of the enterprise, three factors have been selected. Delphi method was applied to 29 security experts in order to determine sub items for each factor, and then final items for evaluation was determined by verifying the content validity and reliability of the components through the SPSS analysis. Then, this study identified characteristics of each type of eight companies from a security perspective by utilizing the developed sub items, and summarized what kind of actual security accidents happened in the past.

  • This study is basically about the changing appearance of the big pavilion, Yeongnamnu in Miryang city belonging to the government guesthouse of Joseon dynasty. And the purpose of this study confirms that even if the appearance of the building has not changed, the function of the building changes because the reason why people think about the building is also different. First, looked at the appearance of architecture and the function of architecture that changes with the times. In the course of the research, the changes of pavilion were traced by dividing it into five from Kory? dynasty which was first established to the present. Then, tried to find out the change patterns by analyzing important events related to buildings or places in each period. As a result, the following facts were confirmed. 1. Because of the Buddhist repression policy in Joseon Dynasty, the Yeongnamnu changed from the temple pavilion to the government pavilion. 2. Throughout the Joseon Dynasty, Yeongnamnu was the representative scenic of Miryang City. 3. In the late Joseon Dynasty, Yeongnamnu was famous as a place where a woman named Arang devoted her life in order to preserve his fidelity. 4. Since 1910, Yeongnamnu has become an important cultural asset, and space has been widely used as a venue for various public events. 5. From 1945 to 1999, Yeongnamnu was used mainly for the events of Arang Remembrance and Miryang Culture Festival. • Recently old stone walls were designated as registered cultural properties that meant an extension of categories about cultural properties from a spot area to whole area. Moreover given the changing situation of residential pattern, which is due to rapid social change, this designation can be seen as a significant measure to keep as intact as possible traditional landscapes in agricultural and fishing villages. In this paper, I analyze the symbol system and meaning of old stone walls and attempt to pick out the cultural elements which are related to them. These days we have made efforts to various aspects for which make traditional cultural resources into cultural contents. But many studies had done before emphasized aspects for beauty only. Especially existing studies about an old stone wall was mainly focused on architectural interpretation and tourist route. So we need to build a plot around oral research and need a creative approach for sharing with tourists. Cultural contents combine the original form, potential and capabilities with media by detecting original form of culture and finding out the worth and meaning. In this paper examined the probability of using by investigating a stone wall in Sang-hak Village that is related with recovering of places to live in contemporary society and finding cultural contents. I suggest more creative ways to make cultural properties into tourist resources by considering the possibilities of place marketing using storytelling, based on an analysis of data gathered.
