Transient Vibration Analysis of an Agricultural Tractor (농업용 트랙터의 과도 진동 분석)

  • This paper introduced some advantages of the time-frequency analysis of vibration and investigated, using the time-frequency transform, the characteristics of the transient motion of a tractor seat, which occurred during the tractor traversed over a rectangular obstacle on the flat surface. The characteristics of the short-time courier and wavelet transforms as time-frequency analysis methods were introduced and discussed to figure out which is more suitable to the analysis of the transient motions of agricultural tractors. Using each transform, transient vibration of a tractor seat was analyzed. Results of the analysis showed that the transient vibration of the seat was influenced by the natural frequencies of vertical mode of chassis, pitching mode of engine and pitching mode of cab of the tractor. The time sequence of the natural mode of tractor vibration was also revealed by the time-frequency analysis. The vibration path analysis by the time-frequency transform showed that the vibration energies transmitted from the front mounts to the seat were less than those from the rear mounts. The energy reduction ratios between the cab mounts and seat were also estimated to be about 72∼78%. The front mounts showed larger reduction than the rear mounts. However, the reduction difference between the right and left sides mounts was negligibly small. The short time Fourier transform was found to be a proper method for investigating the transient motions of farm machines and their effects on the ride vibration.

Development of Auto Tracking System for Baseball Pitching (투구된 공의 실시간 위치 자동추적 시스템 개발)

  • The effort identifying positioning information of the moving object in real time has been a issue not only in sport biomechanics but also other academic areas. In order to solve this issue, this study tried to track the movement of a pitched ball that might provide an easier prediction because of a clear focus and simple movement of the object. Machine learning has been leading the research of extracting information from continuous images such as object tracking. Though the rule-based methods in artificial intelligence prevailed for decades, it has evolved into the methods of statistical approach that finds the maximum a posterior location in the image. The development of machine learning, accompanied by the development of recording technology and computational power of computer, made it possible to extract the trajectory of pitched baseball from recorded images. We present a method of baseball tracking, based on object tracking methods in machine learning. We introduce three state-of-the-art researches regarding the object tracking and show how we can combine these researches to yield a novel engine that finds trajectory from continuous pitching images. The first research is about mean shift method which finds the mode of a supposed continuous distribution from a set of data. The second research is about the research that explains how we can find the mode and object region effectively when we are given the previous image's location of object and the region. The third is about the research of representing data into features that we can deal with. From those features, we can establish a distribution to generate a set of data for mean shift. In this paper, we combine three works to track baseball's location in the continuous image frames. From the information of locations from two sets of images, we can reconstruct the real 3-D trajectory of pitched ball. We show how this works in real pitching images.

  • Trajectory generation is important because it determines the walking stability, continuity, and performance of a body in motion. Generally, the Linear Inverted Pendulum Mode is used for trajectory generation; however, for the sake of simplicity, the trajectory in this mode does not allow vertical motions and pitching motions of the body. This paper proposes a new trajectory generation method called Extended Linear Inverted Pendulum Mode (ELIPM) that allows vertical motion as well as pitching motion. This method can also improve the performance of locomotion by controlling the stride and locomotion frequency of a body.

The mechanism of thrust generation by dynamic stall in flapping flight

  • This paper deals with a thrust generation of flapping-airfoil by dynamic stall. From many other previous research results, phase angle $ between pitching and plunging mode of flapping motion must be 90 deg. to satisfy maximum propulsive efficiency. In this case, leading edge vortex is relatively small. This phenomenon is related dynamic stall. So preventing leading edge vortex induced by dynamic stall guarantees maximum propulsive efficiency. But, in this paper we insist the leading edge vortex yields quite a positive influence on thrust generation and propulsive efficiency. In order to certify our opinion, pitching and plunging motions were calculated with the parameter of amplitude and frequency by using the unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes flow solver with a two-equation turbulence model. For more efficient computation, it is parallelized by MPI programming method.

  • This study shows the vibration characteristics of an actuator with six wire-suspensions, used in optical pickups of optical disc drives (ODDs). In this paper, the vibration characteristics of this beam structure is induced mathematically. To obtain vibration modes of focusing direction, the vibration analysis is achieved in lateral and longitudinal directions of the structure. The accuracy of induced vibration characteristics is proved by comparing mode frequencies with a finite element analysis. Finally, it is shown that mode shapes can be modified by changing design parameters in mathematical expressions.

  • The railway vehicle is a multi-body system running on the track which consists of carbody, bogie and wheelset, each of components is connected with rigid mass, spring and damper. each of components has translation motions of longitudinal (X axis), lateral(Y axis) and vertical(Z axis) direction, and rotation motions of X, Y, Z axis which are named Rolling, Pitching and Yawing. The vibration mode of railway vehicle is difficult to find the characteristics of motion during the operation on the track because these happen to independence or duplication motion caused by vehicle, wheel/rail and track irregularity etc. This paper presents the result of ramp test to show the bounce, roll, pitch and yaw mode frequency of the railway vehicle.

  • In this study, lateral vibration analysis has been conducted on a propulsion and lift shafting system for an air cushion vehicle using ANSYS code. The shafting system is totally flexible multi-elements system including air propeller, aluminum alloy of lift fan and thin walled shaft with flexible coupling. The analysis included the lateral natural frequencies, mode shapes and harmonic analysis of the shafting system taking into account three-dimensional models for propulsion and lifting shaft system. In case of ACV the yawing and pitching rate of craft will be quite high. During yawing and pitching of craft significant gyroscopic moment will be applied to the shafting and will generate high amplitude of lateral vibration. So, such a shafting system has very intricate lateral vibrating characteristics and natural frequencies of shafting must be avoided in the range of operating revolution. The control of lateral vibration is included in this study.

A Study on the Performance of Active Anti-Rolling Tank Stabilizer System (능동형 횡동요 감쇠장치의 성능에 관한 연구)

  • This experimental paper deals with the performance of tanks that are turned the active A.R.T(Anti-Rolling Tank) when the fluid transfers from wing tank to the opposite tank by the power developed by the automatic control system (INTERING Stabilizer), which was installed in the fishery training ship T/S. A - RA (G/T:990 tons) of Cheju National University. In this paper, the author has tested the performance of INTERING Stabilizer for the signals obtained by the inclinometer in irregular waves and compared with the results obtained in passive mode operation at stop and at various ship speeds. The performances of the system were confirmed the results as follows through the tests: 1. The average amplitude and significant roll (${\pi}$1/3) of the passive and active mode operations in the condition of stoped engine and underway were obtained 8.30$^{\circ}$, 4.37$^{\circ}$, 8.30$^{\circ}$, 4.37$^{\circ}$, and 5.01$^{\circ}$, 4.36$^{\circ}$, 5.50$^{\circ}$, 5.10$^{\circ}$, respectively. 2. The rates of performance of active mode operations were carried out during a sea trial in the condition of stop engine and underway resulted in 47.5%, 12.7%, respectively, therefore the active mode operation estimated to be improved more than passive mode operation. 3. Active - A.R.T by INTERING Stabilizer didn't affect the amplitude of pitching.

  • To validate the rotor performance analysis, 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) analysis was performed for tilt rotor aeroacoustic model(TRAM). Also, 3D vehicle with rotating rotors was simulated for rotor power effect analysis. Multiple reference frame(MRF) and sliding mesh techniques were implemented to capture the effect of rotor revolution. CFD results were compared with the wind tunnel test results to validate their accuracy. At helicopter mode, CFD analysis predicted lower thrust than the wind tunnel test but CFD results showed good agreement with the test result at cruise mode. Rotor power effect decreased the lift but did not change drag and pitching moment.
