  • In Tomotherapy the couch sags during the treatment due to the weight of the patient. In this study, we developed a simple method to obtain the amount of the sag and the pitch angle of the couch using the image processing technique of MVCT images in Tomotherapy. Using the method we evaluated the sag and pitch of couch for 22 head and neck patients and one craniospinal irradiation (CSI) patient. The sag and the average pitch angle of couch were 0.40~1.54 mm and $0.7^{\circ}$ for head and neck patients, respectively. For head and neck patients, the sag increased as the longitudinal length of the irradiation volume increased and the pitch angle showed no relationship with the longitudinal length. For the CSI patient the sag was 4.97 mm. Using the method the amount of the couch sag could be measured easily and the measured data could be useful in determination of margins considering the table sag error.

  • The rotation of a spindle unit must be accurate for high-quality machining and to improve the quality of the machine tools. Therefore, the proper measurement of the rotation accuracy and ensuring a proper analysis are very important. Separate processes are necessary because spindle errors and roundness errors associated with the test balls can both factor into the measured rotation error values. We used three methods to discern test ball errors and analyzed which could be deemed as the most proper technique in a test of the rotation accuracy of the main spindle of a machine tool.

  • Objective : There are close relationship between intraoral abnormal structure and speech-functional problem. Patients with cleft palate & ankyloglossia are typical examples. Patients with abnormal structure can be repaired toward normal structure by operation. Ankyloglossia may cause functional limitation - for example, speech disorder - even if adequate surgical treatment were done. And, each individuals have each speech disorders. The objective of this study is to evaluate the speechs of childrens with ankyloglossia, and to determine whether ankyloglossia is associated with articulation problem. We wanted to present criteria for indication of frenectomy. Study design The experimental group is composed of 10 childrens who visited our department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, dental hospital, Chonbuk university, due to ankyloglossia and articulation problem,. The average age is 5 Y 7M, M : F ratio is 4 : 1 at the time of speech test. The VPI consonant discrimination degree, PPVT, PCAT, Nasometer II, Visi-Pitch test result were obtained from each group. Result : There was significant difference for 'language development' through PPVT. Except 3 members of experimental group, all remainder showed retardation for 'language development'. For 'errored consonant rate', data showed more higher scores in alveolar consonant. There 'consonant error' in experimental group, mostly showed 'alveolar consonant', also a major modality of 'consonant error' was mostly distortion. Conclusion : We can judge the severity of ankyloglossia patient by examinig language development degree & speech test of 'alveolar consonant' . And we can make a decision for frenulotomy using these results.

  • This paper presents a real-time correction method of the movemont errors of a translatory precision machine axis. This method is a null-balances technique in which two plane mirrors are used to generate an interferometric fringe pattern utilizing the optical principles of TwymanGreen interferometry. One mirror is fixed on a reference frame, while the other is placed on the machine axis being supported by three piezoelectric actuators. From the fringe pattern, one translatory and two rotational error components of the machine axis are simultaneously detected by using CCD camera vision and image processing techniques. These errors are then independently suppressed by activating the peizoelectric actuators by real-time feedback control while the machine axis is moving. Experimental results demonstrate that a machine axis can be controlled with movement errors less than 10 nm in vertical straightness, 0.1 arcsec in pitch, and 0.06 arcsec in roll for 50mm travel by adopting the real-time correction method.

  • In this study, it has been aimed that the accuracy of position control be increased by microstep drive to the 2 phase 8 pole HB type prototype of linear pulse motor of which winding are applied sine wave current and the vibration and noise in the lower speed region be decreased. The fixed off-time method which controls the exciting current bandwidth, was applied to the microstep current controller. When the LPM was driven 1/8 microstep its accuracy of position was 0.109[mm] (=tooth pitch 3.5[mm] ). Also, the elimination method of harmonics in the static thrust force is proposed. It was confirmed that the position error range of the prototype LPM was $\pm$0.2[mm].

  • This paper presents an algorithm for effective retrieval of score information to an input score image. The originality of the proposed algorithm is that it is designed to be robust to recognition errors by an OMR (Optical Music Recognition), while existing methods such as pitch histogram requires error induced OMR result be corrected before retrieval process. This approach helps people to retrieve score without training on music score for error correction. OMR takes a score image as input, recognizes musical symbols, and produces structural symbolic notation of the score as output, for example, in MusicXML format. Among the musical symbols on a score, it is observed that filled noteheads are rarely detected with errors with its simple black filled round shape for OMR processing. Barlines that separate measures also strong to OMR errors with its long uniform length vertical line characteristic. The proposed algorithm consists of a descriptor for a score and a similarity measure between a query score and a reference score. The descriptor is based on note-count, the number of filled noteheads in a measure. Each part of a score is represented by a sequence of note-count numbers. The descriptor is an n-gram sequence of the note-count sequence. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm works successfully to a certain degree in score image-based retrieval for an erroneous OMR output.

  • In this study, the analysis was carried out for Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) characteristics of the Cu electrodes by LIGA process. The shape of electrodes has 324 pins for the cavity of BGA(Ball Grid Array) type test socket mold. BGA test sockets are used in the inspection process of the semi-conductor I.C chip manufacturing. In the work, the machining performance for EDM of the electrodes was analyzed on dimensional accuracy and wear rate. The dimensional accuracy was measured for dimension of the pins, pitch size between the pins and the roundness of corner edge using optical measuring machine.

  • In order to monitor the pipe thinning caused by flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) that occurs in coolant piping systems, a shear horizontal ultrasonic pitch-catch waveguide technique was developed for accurate pipe wall thickness monitoring. A clamping device for dry coupling contact between the end of the waveguide and pipe surface was designed and fabricated. A computer program for multi-channel on-line monitoring of the pipe thickness at high temperature was also developed. Both a four-channel buffer rod pulse-echo type and a shear horizontal ultrasonic waveguide type for high-temperature thickness monitoring system were successfully installed to the test section of the FAC proof test facility. The overall measurement error can be estimated as ${\pm}10{\mu}m$ during a cycle from room temperature to $200^{\circ}C$.

  • The spring constant of a micro coil spring was measured by uniaxial tensile test. The inner diameter of it is $35{\mu}m$ and the pitch size is about $23{\mu}m$. A suing constant measurement system was developed. It consists of control units, load cell units, linear stages and several specially designed jigs and fixtures. Load and displacement are measured using a commercial load cell of 1000g capacity and a magnetic scale of $0.5{\mu}m$ resolution. In this study, a method to measure the spring constant of micro coil spring is presented and the relationship between misalignment of specimen and measurement error is discussed.

  • Thermal expansion of the ball screw in semi-closed loop type CNC Lathe directly affects the position precision along the travel axis. In this paper, the thermal displacement of the ball screw is estimated by using macro variables. The estimated displacements of the ball screw are managed by calculating the interval of pitch error rate in the NC. The thermal behaviour of the ball screw of the CNC Lathe, under the constant operating conditions, was measured to examine the effectiveness of this compensation method. The results showed that thermal displacement of the ball screw could be maintained its accuracy better than 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ while applying this method.
