  • City gas buried pipes are managed by corrosion protection to prevent corrosion. In the case of the press-in section, the double pipe and the main pipe may cause corrosion under the influence of stray current, which can shorten the life of the pipes. In addition, if the insulator is filled in the press-in section, the press-in section itself is a single structure, and can be directly affected by external impact, and when the surrounding ground subsidence occurs, the stress may be concentrated, resulting in serious consequences. In this study, a serration-type shock absorber in the form of a sliding support was proposed as a new buried double piping construction method using EPS. The serration-type shock absorber can contribute to the improvement of the integrity of the buried double piping, as it can utilize the gas piping's own ductility and stress distribution characteristics with proper anti-corrosion management and shock-absorbing material properties by preventing contact inside the buried double pipe. However, for application to ground piping, there remains a task to supplement the vulnerability against fire due to the characteristics of EPS materials.

  • Galvanized steel pipe, copper pipe and stainless steel pipe, which is being used in waterworks piping materials. In case of galvanized steel pipe, the precipitation of a product is being generated due to the pollution of the tap water, a white water phenomenon, and various corrosion reaction because a zinc ion is melted by tap water. And in case of a cupper pipe, many problems which is harm in sanitation appeared because of a inflow of harmfulness substance by a frequent accident of a water leakage. So, to prevent these problems, it is substituted for stainless steel pipe. However, those problems is still occurring because of badness of welding, a problem of a water leakage in connection part, and a increment of construction expenses. Therefore, this research has examined the laying period according to each piping thickness and a corrosion shape according to each laying depth after laying in various soils(sandy loam, loamy, clay loam, clay) using galvanized steel pipe, copper pipe, and stainless steel pipe. That is, we has studied the data which is necessary for a rational method of preserving the quality of water by examining the corrosion properties of piping materials in the soil environment which waterworks piping materials is being used.

  • This study investigated the loading rate effect on the fracture resistance under cyclic loading conditions to understand clearly the fracture behavior of piping materials under seismic conditions. J-R fracture toughness tests were conducted under monotonic and cyclic loading conditions at various displacement rates at room temperature and the operating temperature of nuclear power plants (i.e., $316^{\circ}C$). SA508 Gr.1a low-alloy steel and SA312 TP316 stainless steel piping materials were used for the tests. The fracture resistance under a reversible cyclic load was considerably lower than that under monotonic load regardless of test temperature, material, and loading rate. Under both cyclic and monotonic loading conditions, the fracture behavior of SA312 TP316 stainless steel was independent of the loading rate at both room temperature and $316^{\circ}C$. For SA508 Gr.1a lowalloy steel, the loading rate effect on the fracture behavior was appreciable at $316^{\circ}C$ under cyclic and monotonic loading conditions. However, the loading rate effect diminished when the cyclic load ratio of the load (R) was -1. Thus, it was recognized that the fracture behavior of piping materials, including seismic loading characteristics, can be evaluated when tested under a cyclic load of R = -1 at a quasistatic loading rate.

  • According to IAEA regulations, a transportation package of radioactive material should perform its intended function of containing the radioactive contents after the drop test, which is one of hypothetical accident conditions. Impact limiters attached to a transport cask absorb the most of impact energy. So, it is appreciated to determine properly the shape, size and material of impact limiters. A material data needed in this determination is a dynamic one. In this study, several materials considered as those of impact limiters were tested by a drop weight facility to acquire dynamic material characteristics data. Impact absorbing volume of the impact limiter was derived mathematically for each drop condition. A size optimization of impact limiter was conducted. The derived impact absorbing volumes were applied as constraints. These volumes should be less than critical volumes generated based on the dynamic material characteristics. The derived procedure to decide the shape of impact limiter can be useful at the preliminary design stage when the transportation package's outline is roughly determined and applied as input value.

  • Cast austenitic stainless steel have been widely used for primary coolant piping in light water reactors. This material is subject to thermal embrittlement at reactor operating temperature. CF-8M and CF-8A cast austenitic stainless steel is used for several components, such as primary coolant piping, elbow, pump casing, and valve bodies in light water reactors. Thermal embrittlement results in spinodal decomposition of delta-ferrite leading to decreased fracture toughness. In this study, the specimens were prepared using an accelerated aging method. The measurement of ferrite content, Charpy impact test and J-R test were performed to verify the predicting equation for aged material properties. In case of above 25% ferrite content, predicted result of J-R curve might be non-conservative.

  • Leak Before Break(LBB) design concept is applied to piping systems of newly-built Yonggwang 3, 4 nuclear generating stations as a design alternative to the provision of pipe whip restraints, in recognition of the questionable benefits of providing such restraints. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the material properties (tensile and fracture toughness) of SA312 TP316 stainless steel and their associated welds manufactured for shutdown cooling system of Yonggwang 3, 4 nuclear generating stations. Effect of various parameters such as specimen orientation, test temperature, welding on material properties were examined.

  • This paper is proposed to select the optimal finite element type in finite element analysis. Based on the NUREG reports, static analyses were performed using a commercial analysis program, $ABAQUS^{TM}$. In this study, we used a nonlinear kinematic hardening model proposed by Chaboche. The analysis result of solid elements by inputting the same material constants was different from the results of the NUREG report. This is resulted from the difference between shell element and solid element. Therefore, the material constants that have similar result to the experimental result were determined and compared according to element type. In case of using solid element for efficient finite element analysis, we confirmed that the use of C3D8I element type(incompatible mode 8-node linear brick element) leads the accurate result while reducing the analysis time.

  • Perforated plates are used for the steam generator tube-sheet and the Reactor Vessel Closure Head in the Nuclear Power Plant. The ASME code, Section III Appendix A-8000, addresses the analysis of perforated plates, however, this analysis is only limited to the flat plate with a triangular perforation pattern. Based on the concept of the effective elastic constants, simulation of flat and spherical perforated plates and their equivalent solid plates were carried out using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The isotropic material properties of the perforated plate were replaced with anisotropic material properties of the equivalent solid plate and subjected to the same loading conditions. The generated curves of effective elastic constants vs ligament efficiency for the flat perforated plate were in agreement with the design curve provided by ASME code. With this result, a plate with spherical curvature having perforations can be conveniently analyzed with equivalent elastic modulus and equivalent Poisson's ratio.

  • This study describes a method for analyzing log data generated in a process using process mining techniques. A system for collecting and analyzing a large amount of log data generated in the process of manufacturing an offshore plant piping material was constructed. The analyzed data was visualized through various methods. Through the analysis of the process model, it was evaluated whether the process performance was correctly input. Through the pattern analysis of the log data, it is possible to check beforehand whether the problem process occurred. In addition, we analyzed the process performance data of partner companies and identified the load of their processes. These data can be used as reference data for pipe production allocation. Real-time decision-making is required to cope with the various variances that arise in offshore plant production. To do this, we have built a system that can analyze the log data of real - time system and make decisions.

  • In the periodic surveillance material test for the spacer component of fuel channel assembly in CANDU, a microstructural characterization analysis is required in addition to the mechanical property evaluation test. In this study, detailed microstructure analysis and simple mechanical property evaluation of archive spacer parts were conducted to indirectly support the surveillance test and assist in the study of spacer material degradation. We investigated the microstructural characteristics of the spacer garter spring coil through comparative analysis with the plate material. The main microstructure characteristics of the garter spring coil X-750 are represented by the fine grain size distribution, the ordering phase distribution developed inside the matrix, the high dislocation density inside the grains, and the arrangement of coarse carbides. In addition, the yield strength of the garter spring coil X-750 was indirectly evaluated to be approximately 1 GPa. We also established an analytical method to elucidate the microstructural evolution of the radioactive spacer garter spring coil X-750 based on Canadian research experiences. Finally, we confirmed the measurement technique for helium bubble formation through TEM examination on the helium implanted X-750 material.
