After the Gyeong-ju 9.12 earthquake, we found the necessity of seismic design of nonstructural element is important to reduce damages in view of properties and economic losses. This study focused on the investigation of damages including both properties and human beings. It was found that most of the damages are leaking of water pipe line, rupture of glasses, spalling of roof finishing, cracks of building, and falling from roof. It was also found that the seismic design force of nonstructural elements is taking account into the natural periods, amplification factors, response modification factors to forsee inelastic behaviors. From this studies, it is recommended that more studies are necessary on the seismic design force of nonstructural element.
Recently a new version of PRO-LOCA program was released. Using the program, failure probability of pipes can be evaluated considering fatigue and/or stress corrosion crack growth and the effects of various parameters on the integrity of pipes in nuclear power plants can be evaluated quantitatively. The analysis results can be used to establish an inspection plan and to examine the effects of important parameters in a maintenance plan. In this study, sensitivity analyses were performed using the program for several important parameters including sampling method, initial crack size, number of initial fabrication flaws, operation temperature, inspection interval, operation temperature and nominal applied bending stress. The effect of parameters on the leak and rupture probability of pipes was evaluated due to fatigue or stress corrosion crack growth.
There are a number of reported instances of actual pipeline rupture during power line faults caused by melting of the pipe wall. This type of hazard was considered to be among the most serious of AC effects on pipelines in an international survey, comparable to the personnel safety hazard. Moreover, resistance coupling is not only a risk when the pipeline parallels a power line but also when they cross. One method of minimizing the effects of resistive coupling is by maintaining an appropriate separation distance between the pipeline and tower. This paper investigate the experiment for separation distance between the powerline earth and pipelines.
Transient analysis for compressible fluid flow has been performed experimentally and analytically to study the dynamic characteristics of the end volume transmission lines following a sudden pressure change a its entrance. The numerical method was developed based on the method of characteristics. The sudden pressure at its entrance was generated by rupture of diaphragm in a shock tube. The sudden pressure was used to obtain the response, as input signal for the numerical analysis. The response to the sudden pressure at the end volume was measured using a pressure transducer. The experimental result shows good agreements with the numerical result. The effects of tube length, its diameter and end volume magnitude are evaluated on the responses of the pressure and on the damping factor. It is found that the viscous damping effects on the response through the transmission pipeline becomes larger with increasing pi;eline length and decreasing diameter of the pipe and the fluid-elastic stiffness decreases with increasing the terminal volume. The numerical approach presented in this paper can be very useful in designing the instrument and control system.
This paper presents a transient multicomponent mixture analysis tool developed to analyze the molecular diffusion, natural convection, and chemical reactions related to air ingress phenomena that occur during a primary-pipe rupture of a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HIGR). The present analysis tool solves the one-dimensional basic equations for continuity, momentum, energy of the gas mixture, and the mass of each gas species. In order to obtain numerically stable and fast computations, the implicit continuous Eulerian scheme is adopted to solve the governing equations in a strongly coupled manner. Two types of benchmark calculations were performed with the data of prerious Japanese inverse U-tube experiments. The analysis program, based on the ICE technique, runs about 36 times faster than the FLUENT6 for the simulation of the two experiments. The calculation results are within a 10% deviation from the experimental data regarding the concentrations of the gas species and the onset times of natural convection.
One factor that can heighten the risk of the rapture intracranial aneurysm (IA) is bifurcations, which can cause the IA to evaluate. This study presents the effect of geometric of intracranial vascular on the bifurcation analysis of the aneurysm occurrence. The aneurysm mechanism is mathematically modeled based on the nano pipe structures under the thermal stresses, and the impact of the aneurysm geometric on the stability and bifurcation points is analyzed. Because of the dimension of these structures, the classical theories could not predict their behavior perfectly, so the nonclassical and nonlocal theories are required for the mechanical modeling of the aneurysm. The presented results show that the bifurcation point of the aneurysm mechanism is dependent on the environment temperature, and the temperature change plays an essential role in the stability of these structures.
The high temperature creep properties of the generating plant's high temperature tube, pipe and header and such are very significant in accordance with long-time exposure to the high temperature and pressure environment. Not only this, but as the welding procedure is compulsory for the cohesion of components, the creep properties regarding the local microstructures of steel weldment are very important. In order to understand the creep properties regarding the local microstructures of steel weldment, the SP-Creep test which is easy to get sample from the field component was conducted. The local microstructure of steel weldment, that is, W.M. and B.M.'s microstructures were observed using the SEM. The rupture time of W.M. was longer as 110 % averagely in a same condition, which is the consequence of the difference of the microstructure. Each lethargy coefficient of B.M. and W.M. is evaluated by the relation among the temperature, load and the rupture time from SP-Creep Test. The life estimation equation can be induced by the transformation of Power-law. B.M. and W.M. for each $550\;^{\circ}C$ and $575\;^{\circ}C$, the very similar to normal temperature of the domestic thermal power generation in working, are estimated.
In the case of high-energy line breaks in nuclear power plants, supersonic steam jet is formed due to the rapid depressurization. The steam jet can cause impingement load on the adjacent structures, piping systems and components. In order to secure the design integrity of the nuclear power plant, it is necessary to evaluate the load characteristics of the steam jet generated by high-energy pipe rupture. In the design process of nuclear power plant, jet impingement load evaluation was usually performed based on ANSI/ANS 58.2. However, U.S. NRC recently pointed out that ANSI/ANS 58.2 oversimplifies the jet behavior and that some assumptions are non-conservative. In addition, it is recommended that dynamic analysis techniques should be applied to consider transient load characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an evaluation methodology that can analyze the dynamic load characteristics of steam jet ejected when high energy pipe breaks. This research group has developed and validated the CFD analysis methodology to evaluate the transient behavior of supersonic impinging jet in the previous study. In this study, numerical study on the transient load characteristics of supersonic steam jet impingement was carried out and amplitude and frequency analysis of transient jet load was performed.
Flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC), liquid droplet impingement erosion (LDIE), cavitation and flashing can cause continuous wall-thinning in nuclear secondary pipes. In order to prevent pipe rupture events resulting from the wall-thinning, most NPPs (nuclear power plants) implement their management programs, which include periodic thickness inspection using UT (ultrasonic test). Meanwhile, it is well known in field experiences that the thickness measurement errors (or deviations) are often comparable with the amount of thickness reduction. Because of these errors, it is difficult to estimate wall-thinning exactly whether the significant thinning has occurred in the inspected components or not. In the previous study, the authors presented an approximate estimation procedure as the first step for thickness measurement deviations at each inspected component and the statistical & quantitative characteristics of the measurement deviations using plant experience data. In this study, statistical significance was quantified for the current methods used for wall-thinning determination. Also, the authors proposed new estimation procedures for determining local wall-thinning to overcome the weakness of the current methods, in which the proposed procedure is based on analysis of variance (ANOVA) method using subgrouping of measured thinning values at all measurement grids. The new procedures were also quantified for their statistical significance. As the results, it is confirmed that the new methods have better estimation confidence than the methods having used until now.
Cavitation can occur in pipes when liquid is moving at high velocity, especially at pittings where the smooth bore of the pipe is interrupted. The effect is usually to produce pitting on the downstream side of the turbulence. However, stress corrosion cracking behavior under cavitation erosion-corrosion was neatly unknown. In this study, therefore, some were investigated of stress corrosion cracking behavior, others were stress corrosion cracking behavior under cavitation erosion-corrosion of water injection. And datas obtained as the results of experiment were compared between the two. Mainresult obtained are as follows: 1) Stress corrosion cracking growth rate of heat affected zone under cavitation erosion-corrosion becomes most rapid, and stress intensity factor $K_1$becomes most high. 2) Stress corrosion cracking growth mechanism by cavitation erosion-corrosion is judgement on the strength of the film rupture model and the tunnel model. 3) The range of potential as passivation of heat affected zone is less noble than that of base metal, and that value is smaller. 4) Corrosion potential under cavitation erosion-corrosion in loaded stress is less noble than that of stress corrosion, and corrosion current density is higher.
