Pipeline network analysis requires fluid mechanics. A lot of equations have been used for flow analysis according to the behavior of fluid in pipelines and the operative situations. In this paper, simulation and analysis have been performed for the pipeline network system in Kyungin area using a steady-state mathematical model. Then, a statistical model using partial least squares(PLS) method has been developed with the data obtained from the developed mathematical model. The results showed that it is possible to simulate and analyze pipeline network systems using statistical approach.

As the frequency of extreme rainfall events increase due to climate change, climate change adaptation measures have been proposed by the central and local governments. In order to reduce flood damage in urban areas, various flood response policies, such as low impact development techniques and enhancement of the capacity of rainwater drainage networks, have been proposed. When these policies are established, regional characteristics and policy-effectiveness from the cost-benefit perspective must be considered for the flood mitigation measures. In this study, capacity enhancement of rainwater pipe networks and low impact development techniques including green roof and permeable pavement techniques are selected. And the flood reduction effect of the target watershed, Gwanak campus of Seoul National University, was analyzed using SWMM model which is an urban runoff simulation model. In addition, along with the quantified urban flooding reduction outputs, construction and operation costs for various policy scenarios were calculated so that cost-benefit analyses were conducted to analyze the effectiveness of the applied policy scenarios. As a result of cost-benefit analysis, a policy that adopts both permeable pavement and rainwater pipe expansion was selected as the best cost-effective scenario for flood mitigation. The research methodology, proposed in this study, is expected to be utilized for decision-making in the planning stage for flood mitigation measures for each region.
In the previous researches for storm sewer design, the flow path, pipe diameter and pipe slope were determined to minimize the construction cost. But in the sewer networks, the flows can be changed according to flow path. The current optimal sewer layout models have been focussed on satisfying the design inflow for sewer designs, whereas the models did not consider the occurrences of urban inundation from excessive rainfall events. However, in this research, the sewer networks are determined considering the superposition effect to reduce the inundation risk by controlling and distributing the inflows in sewer pipes. Then, urban inundation can be reduced for excessive rainfall events. An Optimal Sewer Layout Model (OSLM) was developed to control and distribute the inflows in sewer networks and reduce urban inundation. The OSLM uses GA (Genetic Algorithm) to solve the optimal problem for sewer network design and SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) to hydraulic analysis. This model was applied to Hagye basin with 44 ha. As the applied results, in the optimal sewer network, the peak outflow at outlet was reduced to 7.1% for the design rainfall event with 30 minutes rainfall duration versus that of current sewer network, and the inundation occurrence was reduced to 24.2% for the rainfall event with 20 years frequency and 1 hour duration.
Recent concerns regarding protecting, identifying, isolating, redundant routing and dewatering of subsystems of water distribution networks have led to the realization of the importance of valves in these systems. Valves serve two purposes namely, flow and pressure control and isolating subsystems due to breakage or contaminant containment. In this paper, valves are considered from the point of view of subsystem isolation. When a water main is required to be closed, it may be in general necessary to close several other pipes in addition to the broken pipe itself depending on the distribution of adjacent valves. This set of pipes is defined as a segment. In this paper a segment analysis for isolating pipes is present and based on the segment analysis, we suggested the Valve Importance Index and the 7 performance indicators to evaluate the system performance. The suggested methodology is applied to a real network to verify the applicability of the methodology.

A review on the papers published in the Korean Journal of Air-Conditioning and Refrigerating Engineering in 1998 and 1999 has been done. Focus has been put on current status of research in the aspect of heating, cooling, ventilation, sanitation and building environment. The conclusions are as follows. 1) A review of the recent studies on fluid flow, turbomachinery and pipe-network shows that many experimental investigations are conducted in applications of impingement jets. Researches on turbulent flows, pipe flows, pipe-networks are focused on analyses of practical systems and prediction of system performance. The results of noise reduction in the turbomachinery are also reported. 2) A review of the recent studies on heat transfer analysis and heat exchanger shows that there were many papers on the channel flow with the application to the design of heat exchanger in the heat transfer analysis. Various experimental and numerical papers on heat exchanger were also published, however, there were few papers available for the analysis of whole system including heat exchanger. 3) A review of the recent studies on heat pump system have focused on the multi-type system and the heat pump cycle to utilize treated sewage as the heat source. The defrosting and the frosting behaviors in the fin-tube heat exchanger is experimentally examined by several authors. Several papers on the ice storage cooling system are presented to show the dynamic simulation program and optimal operation conditions. The study on the micro heat pipes for the cooling of high power electronic components is carried out to examine the characteristics of heat and mass transfer processed. In addition to these, new type of separate thermosyphon is studied experimentally. 4) The recent studies on refrigeration/air conditioning system have focused on the system performance and efficiency for new alternative refrigerants. New systems operating with natural refrigerants are drawing lots of attention. In addition to these, evaporation and condensation heat transfer characteristics of traditional and new refrigerants are investigated for plain tubes and also for microfin tubes. Capillary tubes and orifice are main topics of research as expansion devices and studies on thermophysical properties of new refrigerants and refrigerant/oil mixtures are widely carried out. 5) A review of the recent studies on absorption cooling system shows that numerous experimental and analytical studies on the improvement of absorber performance have been presented. Dynamic analysis of compressor have been performed to understand its vibration characteristics. However research works on tow-phase flow and heat transfer, which could be encountered in the refrigeration system and various phase-change heat exchanger, were seemed to be insufficient. 6) A review of recent studies on duct system shows that the methods for circuit analysis, and flow balancing have been presented. Researches on ventilation are focused on the measurement of ventilation efficiency, and variation of ventilation efficiency with ventilation methods by numerous experimental and numerical studies. Furthermore, many studies have been conducted in real building in order to estimate indoor thermal environments. Many research works to get some information for cooling tower design have been performed but are insufficient. 7) A review on the recent studies on architectural thermal environment and building mechanical systems design shows that thermal comfort analysis is sitting environment, thermal performance analysis of Korean traditional building structures., and evaluation of building environmental load have been performed. However research works to improve the performance of mechanical system design and construction technology were seemed to be insufficient.
In this study, the priority of risk factors in supplying water through water supply pipeline network was evaluated by PROMETHEE and ANP multi-criteria decision analysis. We chose 'corrosion', 'burst' and 'water pollution' in pipe as major reference criteria and selected eight risk factors to evaluate the priority, and then we compared the results of PROMETHEE with those of ANP. We also analyzed the results of the sensitivity analysis by changing the weights and parameters of preference functions in PROMETHEE. We investigated the possibility of integrating two methods by using the results of ANP as the weights of preference function in PROMETHEE. The priority of risk factors for supplying municipal water which is evaluated by this study may provide basic data to establish a contingency plan for accidents, or to establish the specific emergency response procedures.
The purpose of this study is to develop an optimal, long-term planning model for improvement of water distribution networks. The water distribution system is divided into sub-zones and the decision of improvement plan is made for each sub-zone. Costs for replacement, rehabilitation and repair, benefits including reduced pumping and leakage costs, and hydraulic reliability are considered to make optimal decision for improvement planning of water network. Harmony search algorithm is applied to optimize the system and hydraulic analysis model EPANET is interfaced with the optimal decision model to check the hydraulic reliability, The developed model is applied to actual water distribution system in Daegu-city, South Korea. The new model which use durability, conveyance and cost as a decision variable is different from existing methods which use only burying period and pipe type and can be used as optimal decision making system for water distribution network.
This study set up the estimates of leakage management efficiency evaluation and leakage management goal that could be used in local water distribution networks efficiency business and modernization business. The data were analyzed using data envelopment analysis and multiple regression analysis. To this end, with leakage management input indices concerning leakage reduction activities (e.g., aged pipe replacement, water meter replacement, leakage restoration, and leakage detection) and leakage management calculation indices (e.g., the increase of revenue water ratio and the reduction of leakage ratio), the data on 22 K-water consignment local water supply systems were analyzed for the years from 2004 through 2018. Using the results of efficiency analysis by data envelopment analysis, the other DMUs (Decision Making Unit) benchmarked the DMU with the highest efficiency to maximize the leakage management efficiency for all DMUs. Through this, leakage management goal estimates were drawn with the input indices of four leakage reduction activities and calculation indices of the increase of revenue water ratio and the reduction of leakage ratio by multiple regression analysis for each group based on the revenue water ratio and leakage ratio. The correlation coefficients of the leakage management goal estimate for the criteria for the revenue water ratio amounted to 0.553 and 0.771. The correlation coefficients of the leakage management goal estimate for the criteria for leakage ratio were 0.397 and 0.865. Accordingly, we estimated the quantity and priority of four leakage reduction activities for the target leakage ratio and revenue water ratio.
In this work, the electrical potential (EP) technique with an artificial neural networks (ANNs) for monitoring of nanostructures are used for the first time. This study employs an expert system to identify size and localize hidden nano-delamination (N.Del) inside layers of nano-pipe (N.P) manufactured from Basalt Fiber Reinforced Polymer (BFRP) laminate composite by using low-cost monitoring method of electrical potential (EP) technique with an artificial neural networks (ANNs), which are combined to decrease detection effort to discern N.Del location/size inside the N.P layers, with high accuracy, simple and low-cost. The dielectric properties of the N.P material are measured before and after N.Del introduced using arrays of electrical contacts and the variation in capacitance values, capacitance change and node potential distribution are analyzed. Using these changes in electrical potential due to N.Del, a finite element (FE) simulation model for N.Del location/size detection is generated by ANSYS and MATLAB, which are combined to simulate sensor characteristic, therefore, FE analyses are employed to make sets of data for the learning of the ANNs. The method is applied for the N.Del monitoring, to minimize the number of FE analysis in order to keep the cost and save the time of the assessment to a minimum. The FE results are in excellent agreement with an ANN and the experimental results available in the literature, thus validating the accuracy and reliability of the proposed technique.

To achieve the optimal sewer layout design, most developed models are designed to determine pipe diameter, slope and overall layout in order to minimize the least cost for the design rainfall. However, these models are not capable of considering the superposition effect of runoff hydrographs entering each junction. The suggested Optimal Sewer Layout Model (OSLM) is designed to control flows and distribute the node inflows while taking into consideration the superposition effect for reducing the inundation risk from the sewer pipes. The suggested model used the genetic algorithm to determine the optimal layout, which was connected to the SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) for the calculation of the hydraulic analysis. The suggested model was applied to an urban watershed of 35 ha, which is located in Seoul, Korea. By using the suggested model, several rainfall events, including the design rainfall and excessive rainfalls, were used to generate runoff hydrographs from a modified sewer layout. By the results, the peak outflows at the outlet were decreased and the overflows were also reduced.
