Although there have been many researches to construct a database of water distribution networks using GIS, most of them were not linked with an model for the analysis of pipe networks because it is difficult to make spatial data about complex water distribution networks for building a detail model. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the method based on GIS to build geographical data for design of water distribution pipeline systems. In this study, an innovated design support technique using GIS is proposed for a hydraulic analysis model of water distribution networks. With the function of spatial analysis in GIS system, the results from a pipe network model are used to analyze the suitability of the location of pipeline network, the spatial suitability comprised the analysis of the degree of pipe age, the altitude distribution of water pressure, and the water supply system for the customer.
The major parameters governing the fluid dynamical and thermo-dynamical behavior in the large pipeline network system are friction loss and the pipeline length. But in local pipeline networks and relatively short distance pipeline system, secondary loss and the considerations of the moving states of the fluid machine are also important. One of the major element in local pressure control system is pressure regulator. It causes the variations of the physical properties in that pipeline system. Especially, as there is not enough information to obtain reliable physical property values such as density, temperature etc. at the downstream of the pressure regulator, It is hard to calculate accurate solution in the pipeline network analysis. In this study, some numerical approaches to investigate the critical-flow-characteristics of the pressure regulator have been done and the detail examinations and considerations of the pressure regulator as a pipeline network elements according to the variations of the inlet-outlet pressure ratio have been carried. Finally the flow-flied distributions, relations and critical-flow-characteristics have been studied. in detail and the 1D analytic method to analyze critical pipe flow have been investigated

The submarine pipe, which is one of the most important coastal structures, is widely used in the development of coastal and ocean engineering. The scour of the submarine pipe occurs due to the wave and the current according to the state of the sea bed. The scour affects the submarine pipe and causes it to undergo settlement and fatigue. It is difficult to predict the local scour under complicated and various conditions of the coastal environment, even though many researches on the scour of the submarine pipe have been studied in recent years. This study analyzed the scour depth around a submarine pipe by using the Neural Network technique. The back-propagation algorithms was used to train the Neural Network. The 58 simulating experimental data for the performance and validation of the Neural Network technique were analyzed in this study. Then, the regression analysis for the same data was performed in this study to predict and compare with the Neural Network technique for the scour depth.

Mechanical structures with power sources experience repeated force produced by motors. In result, the life of the pipes reduces and ultimately, the pipes collapse. Such pipes are formed into several shapes and particularly, the U-shape pipe is damaged frequently. In most cases, the U-shape pipe is made with a straight pipe by complicated bending work. During this work process, plastic deformation of the pipe produces residual stress in the pipe. This residual stress significantly affects the fracture behavior of the pipe and induces the change of the stress ratio (min. stress/Max. stress = R). For this reason, residual stress has to be evaluated. In this paper, the residual stress of a U-shaped pipe was evaluated by FEM analysis. In addition, fatigue tests of the U-shaped pipe were performed by using a uniaxial fatigue testing machine. The results of the fatigue test were modified with the results of FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis for residual stress. The modified fatigue test results of the U-shaped pipe were compared with those of a straight pipe.
Natural gas has different gas composition according to imported gas region, and the difference of gas composition affects pressure loss value occurred in pipe networks, Therefore, using real gas composition instead of averaged gas composition can obtain more reliable results for pipe network analysis. In this study, the effect of real gas composition at gas supply points on the demand pressure has been analyzed. To compare the results, the calculated pressure values for averaged gas composition at all the supply points have been used. From the results, we found that the effect of real gas composition consideration on demand pressure was considerable, and the real gas composition has to be considered for reliable pipe network analysis in gas industry.

This paper is concerned with a branched pipe network system which transports some fluids or gas from multiple sources to multiple demand nodes. A nonlinear programming model is proposed for determining junction locations simultaneously with selection of pipe sizes and pump capacities such that the capital and operating costs of the system are minimized over a given planning horizon. To solve the model, a hierarchical decomposition method is developed with the junction location being the primary variable. With some values fixed for the primary, the other decision variables are found by linear programming. Then, using the postoptimality analysis of LP, junction locations are adjusted. We repeat this process until an optimum is approached. A simple example of designing a water distribution network is solved to illustrate the optimization procedure developed.
An analyzing method for pressure fluctuations in oil hydraulic pipe network was developed in this study. The object pipe network has multi-branch configuration, and the pipelines of it are composed of metal tubes and flexible hoses. Transfer matrix method, in other words impedance method, was used for the analysis. Values of physical parameters describing the characteristics of flexible hose were measured by experiments and reflected to the analysing procedure. The reliability and usefulness of the analyzing method were confirmed by investigating computed results and experimental results got in this study.

This research carried out an analysis on input cost and leakage reduction effect by leakage reduction method, focusing on the project for establishing an optimal water pipe network management system in the Taebaek region, which has been executed annually since 2009. Based on the result, optimal cost-benefit analysis models for water distribution network rehabilitation project were developed using DEA(data envelopment analysis) and multiple regression analysis, which have been widely utilized for efficiency analysis in public and other projects. DEA and multiple regression analysis were carried out by applying 4 analytical methods involving different ratios and costs. The result showed that the models involving the analytical methods 2 and 4 were of low significance (which therefore were excluded), and only the models involving the analytical methods 1 and 3 were suitable. From the result it was judged that the leakage management method to be executed with the highest priority for the improvement of revenue water ratio was installation of pressure reduction valve, followed by replacement of water distribution pipe, replacement of water supply pipe, and then leakage detection and repair; and that the execution of leakage management methods in this order would be most economical. In addition, replacement of water meter was also shown to be necessary in case there were a large number of defective water meters.
In this paper describes the research and development of a pipe robot for pipe rehabilitation construction of old water pipes. After the water supply pipe construction, the pipe is leaking, damaged, and aging due to corrosion. Eventually, resistance to the flow of water in lower supply efficiency and contaminated water such as rusty water, finally in various consumer complaints. In order to solve this problem, rehabilitation construction robot technology is required to secure the construction quality of pipe rehabilitation construction and restore the function of the initial construction period. The developed pipe rehabilitation construction robot required a hydraulic actuator for high traction and was equipped with a small hydraulic supply device. In addition, we have developed a hydraulic cylinder and a link system that supports the pipe inner diameter to develop a single pipe robot corresponding to 500 to 800mm pipe diameter. The analysis and experimental verification of the driving performance and unit function of the developed pipe reconstruction robot are explained, and the result of the integrated performance test of the pipe reconstruction robot at the water supply pipe network site is explained.
