When we use the circular pipes for wastewater and storm water, we should be known the characteristics of the flow for accurate design. To elevate the design accuracy, we want to know the profile of flow. The roughness coefficient in the Manning equation is constant, but in actuality changed with the relative depth in circular pipe. This study was conducted to calculate the relative normal depth in changing the roughness coefficient (named relative roughness coefficient) with the relative depth in the analysis of gradually varied flow in the circular pipe by Newton-Raphson method. We performed the analysis of gradually varied flow using the relative normal depth and the relative roughness coefficient. We presented the 12 flow profiles with the relative depth and the relative roughness coefficient in circular pipe. The flow classification considering relative depth in circular pipe is available to analyse gradually varied flow profiles.

The accurate estimation of water pipe deterioration is indispensable to prevent pipe breakage and manage in advance. In this study, corrosion of water pipe is adopted, which is relatively underestimated although it takes most part of deteriorating pipeline. Predicting corrosion rate and corrosion depth of a pipe can make an increase the life span of the pipeline, which is laid under the ground according to characteristics of soil and water corrosion. For the purpose, mathematical models that can presume nominal depth through estimation of pit corrosion and corrosion rate is introduced. As comparison of results with conventional methods in other foreign countries, it is evaluated that the external corrosion depth is estimated less than the models, proposed by other researchers and the internal corrosion rate was processed faster than the external corrosion rate.
The computation of normal depth is very important for the design of channel and the analysis of water flow. Drainage pipe generally has the shape of curvature like circular or U-type, which is different from artificial triangular or rectangular channel. In this case, the computation of normal depth or the derivation of equations is very difficult because the change of hydraulic radius and area versus depth is not simple. If the ratio of the area to the diameter, or the hydraulic radius to the diameter of pipe is expressed as the water depth to the diameter of pipe by power law, however, the process of computing normal depth becomes relatively simple, and explicit equations can be obtained. In the present study, developed are the explicit normal depth equations for circular and U-type pipes, and the normal depth equation associated with Hagen (Manning) equation and friction factor equation of smooth turbulent flow by power law is also proposed because of its wide usage in engineering design.

The result of this research explains an interactive behavior of buried steel pipe located below hume pipe using concept of effective depth and effective length against their intersection angle and burial distance. The cover depth of upper rigid (hume) pipe is 1.0m and depth range of flexible (steel) pipe is 0.5m to 5m from beneath bottom of hume pipe. And one more variable is their intersection angle in this study, it was considered from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. From the results of this study, the effective depth is proportionally increasing with its intersection angle and decreasing with distance increment between two pipes. Finally, the relationship between effective length and summation of occurred bending stress is defined.
Pipeline is very important infrastructure which is directly related to our daily life. Nevertheless, it is not considered significantly unless it breaks. As most pipelines are buried at a certain depth from the surface of road pavement in urban areas, they are subjected to traffic load. This paper presents the performance of buried concrete pipe under heavy traffic load. Hence, one of the major factors affecting their performance is burial depth. To consider this factor, the ratio of burial depth (H) to diameter of pipe (D) was defined as a key variable. The integrity of buried concrete pipe was investigated with two cases of ratio of burial depth to pipe diameter (H/D=2 and H/D=4). The results provide the limit burial depth to ensure the soundness of buried concrete pipe subjected to heavy traffic load, and more economical design is anticipated with the results.
To use the earth heat for the livestock housing, an underground heat exchanger is developed and pipes are layed in the depth of 2.5m under the ground. The pipes have two different kinds of diameter (200mm, 100mm) and materials (PE, PVC). The results of heating effect in winter and spring are following. The temperature in different soil depth varies from 5$^{\circ}C$ by 1.5m depth, to 9$^{\circ}C$ by 3.5m. So it should be better to have the depth greater than 2.5m. The difference of air temperature between the inside and outside pipe was 9.9 Kelvin(K) with 200mm diameter and 13.4K with the 100mm diameter with the same material in winter. By the lower outside temperature from -7.2$^{\circ}C$, it could keep the air temperature above 6$^{\circ}C$ through the 100mm diameter pipe. The heating performance was 593 W with 200mm diameter, 118W with 100mm diameter (PE), and 115W with 100m diameter (PVC), respectively. As the outside temperature varies from -1.5$^{\circ}C$ to 18.6$^{\circ}C$ in early spring, the air temperature through the pipes show 4∼8$^{\circ}C$. While the difference between maximum and minimum outside temperature is 14K, the one through the pipes could be reduced by 2K. Pipes with small diameter can more reduce the difference than the pipe with larger diameter.
Recently, improvement of materials and technologies for the manufacturing of gas pipe has it possible to reduce the buried depth. Compared to the criteria from advanced countries, Korea has conservative criteria for the buried depth of pipeline(about 50cm deeper). Therefore, this study investigated the effect of various buried depth(0.8m, 1.0m, 1.2m) on the stress and strain distribution of gas pipe. Numerical analysis and field tests were carried out with API 5L steel gas pipes. From the results, it can be suggested that the change of buried depth would not significantly affect the stress and strain distribution of gas pipe.
Due to corrosion defects on the surface of the oil pipe, the sealing performance of the annular blowout preventer (BOP) decreases, and the leakage of toxic and harmful gases such as H2S and SO2 will threaten the safety of operators on the well. Therefore, this paper establishes the FE model for evaluating the sealing performance of BOP-oil pipe corrosion defects, which is based on the rubber large deformation theory and rubber core sealing mechanism, and designs the experiment of BOP sealing performance to verify the accuracy of the FE model. The sealing performance of BOP sealing oil pipe with corrosion defects is studied. The research results show that the sealing performance of BOP is more sensitive to the axial size of corrosion defects. With the increase of oil pipe outer diameter, the critical size of defects increases continuously. The sensitivity of radial and depth dimensions is low, When for 88.9 mm outer diameter oil pipe, the axial critical size of corrosion defect is 20 mm, the radial critical size is 16 mm and the critical depth is 2 mm. Fit the formula between the outer diameter of oil pipe and the piston increment. According to the formula, the operator can calculate the piston stroke increment required by the BOP to complete the sealing when the oil pipe is corroded.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of pending depth treatment on water balance in paddy fields. The pending depth treatments were very shallow, shallow and deep. The experimental plots were three $80m{\times}25m$ rectangular plots. Daily values of rainfall amount, pending depth, irrigation water, drainage water, evapotranspiration, infiltration, and piezometeric head were measured in the field. The pending depth was continuously observered by water level logger during the growing season. The ET was measured in 1m diameter PVC lysimeters. Irrigation water volume was measured by 75m pipe flow meter and the drainage water volume was measured by 25mm and 75mm pipe flow meters and a recording Parshall fulume. PVC pipe piezometers with 12mm diameter were used. The results of the water balance showed that irrigation water of 881.1mm, 735.4mm, and 532.6mm in very shallow, shallow, and deep pending, respectively. The effective rainfall was 182.6mm(44.6%), 254.7mm(62.2%), and 188.6mm(46.0%) in very shallow, shallow, and deep pending, respectively. The results show that the shallow pending depth looks the best of the three treatments.

The submarine pipe, which is one of the most important coastal structures, is widely used in the development of coastal and ocean engineering. The scour of the submarine pipe occurs due to the wave and the current according to the state of the sea bed. The scour affects the submarine pipe and causes it to undergo settlement and fatigue. It is difficult to predict the local scour under complicated and various conditions of the coastal environment, even though many researches on the scour of the submarine pipe have been studied in recent years. This study analyzed the scour depth around a submarine pipe by using the Neural Network technique. The back-propagation algorithms was used to train the Neural Network. The 58 simulating experimental data for the performance and validation of the Neural Network technique were analyzed in this study. Then, the regression analysis for the same data was performed in this study to predict and compare with the Neural Network technique for the scour depth.
