  • A bimodal tram is a new design vehicle introduced to improve a current transportation system, and it has advantages of a bus and a subway. A pipe truss bridge, an exclusive road of the bimodal tram, is constructed for introduction of the bimodal tram. An analysis of dynamic response characteristics is required because this new bridge has never constructed before. A speed increasing test on the pipe truss bridge was conducted with attaching a sensor to bottom of the bridge. Also, Dynamic response characteristics were analyzed by measuring displacements, the maximum vertical and horizontal acceleration about the new bridge through the experiment.

  • In this paper, the full-size structural performance test for a lightweight soundproof tunnel composed of partitioned pipe truss members is carried out to investigate the structural performance. In addition, a nonlinear structural analysis of the same finite element model as the full-size testing model is performed to compare the test result. The test and analysis results showed that the lightweight soundproof tunnel ensures the structural safety against wind loads, snow loads and load combinations. As a result, the full-size test and analysis results meet all the design load conditions, hence the proposed lightweight soundproof tunnel is ready for the field application.

  • This paper reports on finite element analysis techniques that may be applied to the study of circular hollow structural sections and related bearing connection geometries. Specifically, a connection detail involving curved steel saddle bearings and a Structural Tee (ST) connected directly to a large-diameter Hollow Structural Section (HSS) truss chord, near its open end, is considered. The modeling is carried out using experimentally verified techniques. It is determined that the primary mechanism of failure involves a flexural collapse of the HSS chord through plastification of the chord wall into a well-defined yield line mechanism; a limit state for which a shell-based finite element model is well-suited to capture. It is also found that classical metal plasticity material models may be somewhat limited in their applicability to steels in fabricated tubular members.

  • There is a critically structural problem of scaffolding system when one of scaffold columns is remove to be used as a gangway for their temporary office in the structure before finishing all such as an apartment or office building. This is not used to checking to structurally checking at a construction site. This study is to find out which system at a site will be more effective and low-cost-high effectiveness of aluminum ladder, timber ladder, ${\phi}$1/2 inch steel pipe truss with a type of concave, convex warren truss ladders. Theses are structurally tested with horizontal set as a truss type with 1.8 meter long. Concentrated load has been loaded at the upper center of the system and checked its strain at the bottom center, using aluminum-use strain gage and steel-use gauge have been attached concave warren truss with diameter 1/2 inch has 14% stronger than convex truss. Convex truss has almost same strength as an aluminum ladder truss, it is found out.

  • In this paper, the structural characteristics of a lightweight soundproof tunnel to reduce the dead load imposed on the bridge are investigated. Subsequently, the design procedure of soundproof tunnel structures is reviewed and a design practice for the lightweight soundproof tunnel is carried out according to the reviewed procedure. Next, design compatibility for the lightweight soundproof tunnel is verified through a detailed finite element analysis. The result for evaluation of design compatibility shows that the lightweight soundproof tunnel has structural safety in structural members, welding zones and foundation parts. It is also confirmed that serviceability and buckling safety is excellent.

  • In recently constructed building, It has become fashionable again that the heavy external skin system such as a Stone Finished Envelope. There are Squared Steel Pipe Methods, C-Shaped Steel Pipe Methods, and Aluminum Beam Methods in the structure of a heavy external skin system. The Aluminum Beam Methods is often misunderstood as a Plane Truss Structure, but this method is not appropriate to be called to a truss structure but a beam methods. The Aluminum Beam Methods is the most Eco-friendly methods in terms of Quality assurance, Efficiency, Safety, Construction period, Durability, and Recyclability. And this Methods is also very appropriate in considering the point of Energy conservation, Waste reduction, Long-life architecture, Replacement parts, Environmental protection, Public efficiency, and Building demolition.

  • In domestic construction industry, now demand for airport facilities, gymnastic facilities, mass meeting facilities, sales facilities is increasing. Because of this, demand for huge space is also increasing. In making huge space, existing PEB(Pre-Engineered Building) and Pipe Truss, As span is lager and larger, steel weight is increasing and hard to apply for large span. For solving this problem, Many program was proposed, and in that Space Frame was rising. But in domestic construction there are very rare practical use for Space Frame. In this study, we wish to introduce Space Frame that has several advantages in construction expense, construction time, constructibility and also with analyzing example for applying Space Frame, wish to investigate characteristic of Space Frame. Go forward better, through comparison of other different old method and basic character of Space Frame, confirm advantage of Space Frame that have infinite development possibility and revitalize the Space Frame in domestic study and further more wish to raise practical use for Space Frame.

  • This paper estimated the impact factor using the finite element program to confirm the dynamic behavior of new type of bridges constructed by introduction of new vehicles and compared the design criteria about the impact factor applied to domestic as well as each country. The study estimated effects of the impact factor according to pipe truss types modeled as respectively 34m, 44m, 54m and span length. The vehicle models are vehicle for bimodal tram of two axis and three axis which passes on actual bridge and dump truck model proposed by Park Young suk(1997). Each vehicle is estimated the impact factor according to velocity from 10 to 100(km/h) and examined. Also, the study investigated and compared the design regulation of domestic and a foreign country based on the impact factor on span center calculated in accordance with vehicle and span length.

  • Most of the soundproof tunnels generate significant discharge noise through their inlets and outlets so that the length of the tunnel has been extended frequently than required to minimize the effect on such discharge noise. Thus, in this paper, we investigate reduction capability of discharge noise from the sound proof tunnel installed with lateral sound-absorbing panels on the partitioned truss members in the longitudinal direction of the tunnel. In conclusion, noise field analysis results shows that the sound proof tunnels with lateral sound-absorbing panels have an effect on discharge noise abatement and thereby tunnel's length reduction.

  • This study presents a structural design optimizing sizes of high-rise steel plane truss members by maximizing stiffness subjected to given volume constraints. The sizing optimum design is evaluated by using a well-known optimality criteria (OC) of gradient-based optimization methods. In typical size optimization methods, truss structures are optimized with respect to minimum weight with constraints on the value of some displacement and on the member stresses. The proposed method is an inversed size optimization process in comparisons with the typical size optimization methods since it maximizes stiffness associated with stresses or displacements subjected to volume constraints related to weight. The inversed approach is another alternative to classical size optimization methods in order to optimize members' sizes in truss structures. Numerical applications of a round shape steel pipe truss structure are studied to verify that the proposed maximum stiffness-based size optimization design is suitable for optimally developing truss members's sizes.
