Preparation and application of the pine oil solution for wet tissues (물티슈용 소나무 오일 솔루션 제조 및 응용)

  • This study was prepared for a natural aroma solution for the purpose of improving depression, anxiety, and insomnia caused by stress in modern people, and applied the solution to wet tissues. Specifically, the pine oil solution was prepared by mixing Korean pine oil and black cherry oil. Heavy metal analysis, antibacterial analysis, psychological evaluation, and skin evaluation were performed on the prepared pine oil solution to examine the possibility of manufacturing functional aroma wet tissues for stress improvement. Furthermore, as a result of investigating whether pine oil solution wet tissues improved the skin, it was found that there was an improvement effect in terms of moisturizing and elasticity.

Ameliorative Effect of Pine Needle Oil on Liver Protection and Lipid Metabolism of Alcohol Fed Rats

  • The effect of treatment with pine needle oil upon rat hepatocytes exposed to alcohol was investigated. The body weight gain, ratio of liver and kidney to body weight, and serum biochemistry of rats administered both alcohol and pine needle oil were compared to control rats treated with alcohol alone. Normal untreated control rats, negative control rats with ethanol treatment, positive control rats with both alcohol and the commercially available hangover cure solution (HCS) treatment and the test group with both alcohol and pine needle oil treatment exhibited aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels of $84.43{\pm}47.88\;U/L$, $254.57{\pm}463.20\;U/L$, $70.29{\pm}12.60\;U/L$ and $67.00{\pm}5.06\;U/L$, respectively, and cholesterol levels of $95.71{\pm}6.86\;mg/dl$, $113.80{\pm}38.19\;mg/dl$, $91.57{\pm}6.30\;mg/dl$ and $82.29{\pm}4.98\;mg/dl$, respectively. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels were $44.00{\pm}9.04\;U/L$ in normal untreated control rats, increased to $215.43{\pm}428.93\;U/L$ with the administration of ethanol, but interestingly were significantly reduced to $37.83{\pm}6.57\;U/L$ in the test group (p<0.05). Triglyceride (TG) levels were $39.57{\pm}8.62\;mg/dl$ in normal untreated rats, increased to $73.71{\pm}61.20\;mg/dl$ in rats administered alcohol, but were reduced to $26.14{\pm}4.82\;mg/dl$ in the test group (p<0.0l). The pine needle oil treatment significantly reduced the levels of AST, ALT and TG compared to the control rats. These results indicate that pine needle oil can positively mediate the effects of alcohol on hepatocytes and general liver functions.

Quality improving effect of dries noodle according to treatment of pine needle seasoning oil (솔잎향미유 처리에 의한 건면의 품질개선 효과)

  • Dried noodles was manufactured by wheat flour and saline solution mixture. At this time, saline solution mixture was used for simple saline solution and mixture(blending ratio of PNSO and emulsifier=2:1, w/w) of both pine needle seasoning oil (PNSO) manufactured by autoclaving method and food emulsifier. Water absorption ratio, volume expansion ratio and water soluble solid matters content were decreased, but cooking time was prolonged, respectively. According to, suitable treating amount of PNSO was 2-3%(w/w) level. On organoleptic test, the peculiar green color was appeared in cooked noodles of PNSO treating groups. The surface was slickly, chewy rheology and texture were improved at PNSO treating cooked noodle. During 20-30 minutes after cooking, chewy characteristics was maintained the treating groups more than PNSO 2%(w/w). At the result, this PNSO treatin dried noodle samples were suitable at the institutional food service as well as dining hal1 for the case of large scale's kitchen work.

Chemical Control of the Pine Gall Midge (Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye) (II). ULV Foliar Spray of the Insecticides (솔잎혹파리의 약제방제에 관한 연구 II. ULV 엽면살포)

  • Some insecticides were evaluated on the effect of single ULV foliar spray in the control of the pine gall midges (Thecediplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye) when the formulated (undiluted) and/or diluted insecticides were applied by ULV Sprayer (Battery-type of 12 voltage, devised by Union Carbide) With the formulated insecticide spray (30ml per plot; ten pine trees of 1.5 to 2m in height), the order of control effectiveness was Salithion (Ec 25), $Sumithion^{(R)}$ (ULV 80), Dimethoate (Ec 50), $Sevin\;oil^{(R)}$ (ULV 50), $Zolone^{(R)}$ (Ec 25) and $Folimat^{(R)}$ (Ec 50). However, except Zolone, other insecticides tested caused relatively severe phytotoxicity on the pine needles in all treatments. The dilluted insecticides (200ml Per Plot) of Salithion and Dimethoate with 10,20 and 40 times of water solution showed better control effect than with the formulated insecticides, and no phytotoxicity was observed. Salithion was more effective than Dimethoate. In conclusion, the desirable results in the pine gall midge control in this experiment were obtained by single ULV foliar spray of Salithion with 10 to 20 times of water solution, and the feasible timing of insecticide application would be from late in May to early in June.

Selection of Essential Oils Inhibiting Germination and Initial Growth of Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) (유채(Brassica napus L.) 종자의 발아와 초기생장을 억제하는 식물정유의 선발)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the phytotoxic effects of 19 essential oils on seed germination and initial growth of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.). We found that anise, cinnamon, citronella, clove, geranium, lemongrass, mustard and pine oils completely inhibited germination of rapeseed at $100{\times}$ dilute solution. Based on the inhibition rates of rapeseed emergence and initial growth, three essential oils (cinnamon, clove, and geranium) were selected as potential bio-herbicides. Under pre-emergence applications of cinnamon, clove, and geranium oils at 90 kg ai $ha^{-1}$, rates of rapeseed emergence were 7.1, 25.0, and 3.6% and its initial growth were 22.0, 9.9 and 11.0%, respectively.

Encapsulation of Pine Agaric ( Tricholoma matsutake) Flavor with Alginates (알긴산을 이용한 송이 향의 캡슐화)

  • Encapsulating 1-octen-3-ol with alginates solution, the effects of physical properties (viscosity, emulsion activity, emulsion stability) of alginates solutin on the retention of 1-octen-3-ol in capsules were investigated. Only alginates solutions haying less than 350 cP in viscosity were capable to be adopted to spray dry. Adding citric acid to alginates solution in order to reduce its viscosity, the concentration of citric acid became higher, the viscosity of alginates solution were lower. Adding $0.1\% of citric acid could reduce viscosity of alginates solution to 150 cP. The viscosity of alginates solution after emulsifying showed higher value than that of solution before emulsifying, but its viscosity were within the possible ranges for spray drying. The lower viscosity of alginates solution were, EAI became higher but ESI and amount of remaining 1-octen-3-ol in capsules were lower, In reducing the viscosity of alginates solutions, heating time after adding citric acid were longer, the their viscosity became lower. Differences of viscosity of alginates solution after and before emulsifying were little, In encapsulating raw pine agaric with alginates solution, the adding amount of soybean oil increased, the amounts of remaining 1-octen-3-ol in capsules increased. After freeze drying the amount of remaining 1-octen-3-ol in alginates capsules prepared with raw pine agaric was higher than that after cold air flow drying.

Effects of Phytoncide Treatment on the Physicochemical, Microbiological, and Sensory Characteristics of Fresh-cut Lettuce (Phytoncide 처리가 신선편이 양상추의 저장 중 이화학적, 미생물학적 및 관능적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of phytoncide solution treatment on the browning and quality of fresh-cut iceberg lettuce during storage was studied. The treatments were applied as four solutions adjusted at $10^{\circ}C$: distilled water (DW) as the control; edible ethanol (EE); 1% (v/v) phytoncide essential oil from pine needle diluted with distilled water (DP); and 1% (v/v) phytoncide essential oil diluted with edible ethanol (EP). Fresh-cut lettuce was dipped in each solution for 60 sec, was rinsed with distilled water, was packaged with an OPP film bag, and was then stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 12 days. The EP group had a significantly high level of total soluble solids, titratable acidity, and carbon dioxide, and low total bacteria counts, pH, and oxygen. The sensory score of color in the EP group recorded a high value, but the EE and EP groups recorded low scores in aroma and taste during the storage period. Alcohol and phytoncide were vaporized by opening the package for two hours, and the score of the aroma and taste of EP showed no differences from those of the other groups. Based on the above results, it was determined that the phytoncide essential oil diluted in edible alcohol with 1% solution inhibited the browning of and microbial growth in fresh-cut lettuce, and will be a useful natural compound in maintaining the quality of fresh-cut produce.

The effect of temperatures on the absorption of creosote solution by wood (처리온도(處理溫度)가 크레오소오트 약액(藥液)의 목재내(木材內) 흡수(吸收)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This experiment was accomplished to study the effect affecting to the absorption of creosote solutions by treating temperatures 20, 50 and $80^{\circ}C$ when the small test pieces were treated as short timed immersion process. The test speciemens used in this experiment were cut into 180 pieces of $2.5{\times}2.5{\times}5cm$ size from the air dried sapwood of Righda Pine (Pinus rigida M.). They were controlled to about 8 to 9% moisture contents and measured specific gravities. Four creosote solutions of $S_1$(straight creosote), $S_2$(creosote 70% : heavy oil 30%), $S_3$(creosote 50% : heavy oil 50%) and $S_4$(creosote 30% : heavy oil 70%), and three treating temperatures of $T_1$($20^{\circ}C$), $T_2$($50^{\circ}C$) and $T_3$($80^{\circ}C$) were applied by factorial split plot design in the each treatment of 3, 7, 15, 30 and 60 minutes immersion. According to the results this study may be concluded briefly as follows : 1. In this immersion process the absorption effects of creosote mixtures by the increase of temperatures are recognized considerably in the each treating times. However in the straight creosote of treated solutions the effective differences were not shown but most effective differences were shown in the $S_2$ solution. 2. Although the solutional absorptions were raised considerably by temperature increase in every treating times the absorption effects of creosote mixtures were not reached to that of straight creosote because the effects are considerably lowered if the treating solutions were mixed with heavy oil even a small quantities. 3. The relations between the creosote contents of treating solutions and the absorptions in wood are shown as Fig. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. In these figures the absorption curves made by higher temperature treatment $T_3$ are on the lower treatments $T_1$ and $T_2$ if the solutions were mixed with heavy oil. 4. This report is a part of the consolidated results announced at the annual meetings of Korean Forestry Association in 1964 and 1965.

Analysis of Pine Nut Oil Composition and Its Effects on Obesity (잣기름 성분분석 및 비만 예방효과 연구)

  • Pine nut oil (PNO) is well known to impart beneficial effects in overweight individuals, but the mechanisms underlying PNO-mediated weight loss remain unclear. To investigate how PNO promotes weight loss, its composition was determined by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In addition, the effects of PNO on cytotoxicity, lipid accumulation, expression of lipid metabolism-related biomarkers, and leptin secretion were assessed in 3T3-L1 cells. GC-MS analyses revealed that PNO contains several components, including linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid. Moreover, PNO did not have a cytotoxic effect on 3T3-L1 cells. However, it inhibited the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) and adipocyte protein 2 (aP2). Finally, PNO significantly increased leptin secretion in a dose-dependent manner. Taken together, these results support the notion that PNO is useful for weight management in overweight individuals.

Comprehensive Pest Management Techniques of Organic Cultivation Sweet Persimmon Orchards (유기재배 단감 과수원의 병해충 종합관리기술)

  • This study was carried out for three years from 2013 to 2015 to investigate the actual condition of pest control of domestic persimmon organically cultivated farmers, to select environment - friendly pest control materials for major pests, and to conduct field test of established control system. The main cultivated cultivar of the reader farmer of organic cultivation was "Buyou" and sprayed organic agricultural material 9~17 times per year for pest control. The most harmful pests were anthracnose, bugs, persimmon fruit worm, and scales, etc. The control materials used were organic lime sulfur mixture, red clay sulfur, emulsifier, bordeaux solution, and self-made plant extracts using garlic, ginkgo nut and pine tree. The effective materials for controlling anthrax were lime sulfur mixture and red clay sulfur. Garlic oil + citronella emulsion, shrubby sophora seed extract + tea extract was effective to control Riptortus clavatus and Euproctis subflava. When installed 60 ea per 10a of mating disruption trap in a sweet orchard, the fruit setting rate was improved by 30%. The results of field test of control system to control 10 times a year in organically grown persimmons were able to harvest fruit of 70.7%. However, since any kinds of pesticides can not be sprayed during the harvest season in September and October, the damaged by bugs did not decreased, and further research is needed.
