Febry-Perot 간섭계를 이용한 강유전 P(VDF-TrFE) 폴리머 열광학 특성평가 (Characterization of Thermo-optical Properties of Ferroelectric P(VDF-TrFE) Copolymer Using Febry-Perot Interferometer)

  • Phase transition in ferroelectric polymer is very interesting behavior and has been widely studied for real device applications, such as actuators and sensors. Through the phase transition, there is structural change resulting in the change of electrical and optical properties. In this study, we fabricated the Febry-Perot interferometer with the thin film of ferroelectric P(VDF-TrFE) 50/50 mol% copolymer, and thermo-optical properties were investigated. The effective thermo-optical coefficient of P(VDF-TrFE) was obtained as $2.3{\sim}3.8{\times}10^{-4}/K$ in the ferroelectric temperature region ($45^{\circ}C{\sim}65^{\circ}C$) and $6.0{\times}10^{-4}/K$ in the phase transition temperature region ($65^{\circ}C{\sim}85^{\circ}C$), which is a larger than optical silica-fiber and PMMA. The resonance transmission peak of P(VDF-TrFE) with the variation of temperature showed hysteretic variation and the phase transition temperature of the polymer in heating condition was higher than in the cooling condition. The elimination of the hysteretic phase transition of P(VDF-TrFE) is necessary for practical applications of optical devices.

Synthesis of functional ZnO nanoparticles and their photocatalytic properties

  • Zinc oxide is metal oxide semiconductor with the 3.37 eV bandgap energy. Zinc oxide is very attractive materials for many application fields. Zinc Oxide has many advantages such as high conductivity and good transmittance in visible region. Also it is cheaper than other semiconductor materials such as indium tin oxide (ITO). Therefore, ZnO is alternative material for ITO. ZnO is attracting attention for its application to transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films, surface acoustic wave (SAW), films bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR), piezoelectric materials, gas-sensing, solar cells and photocatalyst. In this study, we synthesized ZnO nanoparticles and defined their physical and chemical properties. Also we studied about the application of ZnO nanoparticles as a photocatalyst and try to find a enhancement photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanorticles.. We synthesized ZnO nanoparticles using spray-pyrolysis method and defined the physical and optical properties of ZnO nanoparticles in experiment I. When the ZnO are exposed to UV light, reduction and oxidation(REDOX) reaction will occur on the ZnO surface and generate ${O_2}^-$ and OH radicals. These powerful oxidizing agents are proven to be effective in decomposition of the harmful organic materials and convert them into $CO_2$ and $H_2O$. Therefore, we investigated that the photocatalytic activity was increased through the surface modification of synthesized ZnO nanoparticles. In experiment II, we studied on the stability of ZnO nanoparticles in water. It is well known that ZnO is unstable in water in comparison with $TiO_2$. $Zn(OH)_2$ was formed at the ZnO surface and ZnO become inactive as a photocatalyst when ZnO is present in the solution. Therefore, we prepared synthesized ZnO nanoparticles that were immersed in the water and dried in the oven. After that, we measured photocatalytic activities of prepared samples and find the cause of their photocatalytic activity changes.

Effects of High-Energy Ball Milling and Sintering Time on the Electric-Field-Induced Strain Properties of Lead-Free BNT-Based Ceramic Composites

  • This study investigated crystal structures, microstructures, and electric-field-induced strain (EFIS) properties of Bi-based lead-free ferroelectric/relaxor composites. Bi1/2Na0.82K0.18)1/2TiO3 (BNKT) as a ferroelectric material and 0.78Bi1/2(Na0.78K0.22)1/2TiO3-0.02LaFeO3 (BNKT2LF) as a relaxor material were synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method, and the resulting BNKT2LF powders were subjected to high-energy ball milling (HEBM) after calcination. As a result, HEBM proved a larger average grain size of sintered samples compared to conventional ball milling (CBM). In addition, the increased sintering time led to grain growth. Furthermore, HEBM treatment and sintering time demonstrated a significant effect on EFIS of BNKT/BNKT2LF composites. At 6 kV/mm, 0.35% of the maximum strain (Smax) was observed in the HEBM sample sintered for 12 h. The unipolar strain curves of CBM samples were almost linear, indicating almost no phase transitions, while HEBM samples displayed phase transitions at 5~6 kV/mm for all sintering time levels, showing the highest Smax/Emax value of 700 pm/V. These results indicated that HEBM treatment with a long sintering time might significantly enhance the electromechanical strain properties of BNT-based ceramics.

신 공정을 이용한 멤브레인형 체적탄성파 공진기의 제작 및 하부전극이 주파수 응답특성에 미치는 영향 (Fabrication of a FBAR device using a novel process and the effect of bottom electrode on the frequency response)

  • Film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) devices which adopt a membrane-type configuration are fabricated by a novel process. In contrast to the conventional FBAR structure, the newly fabricated resonator doesn't employ any supporting layer below or above it, so that the properties of piezoelectric layer are not influenced by the bottom electrode material. FBAR devices with Mo/AlN/Metal configuration are also fabricated. The frequency response characteristics ($S_{11}$) of the devices fabricated using the proposed process are compared with those of the conventional devices. The return losses are also estimated, in terms of the kind and thickness of bottom electrode materials.

  • Poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) is one of the most studied polymers in the latest date. The interest in PVDF lies in its remarkable piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. Also, PVDF has at least four known crystalline structures(; they are referred to as the ${\alpha},\;{\beta},\;{\gamma}\;and\;{\alpha}_p$ phase or forms II, I, III and $IV_p$). In this study, the manufactured PVDF thin film through vapor deposition method had form II(; the glass at $70^{\circ}C$). This thin film was investigated by x-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy and Differential Thermal Analysis(DTA). XRD and FT-IR indicate crystallization forms from the glass at $70^{\circ}C$ into form II.

Fabrication of PVDF Structures by Near Field Electrospinning

  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) has drawn much attention due to its many advantages. PVDF shows high mechanical strength and flexibility, thermal stability, and good piezoelectricity enabling its application to various fields such as sensors, actuators, and energy transducers. Further studies have been conducted on PVDF in the form of thin films. The thin films exhibit different ionic conductivity according to the number of pores within the film, letting these films to be applied as electrolytes or separators of batteries. Porous PVDF membranes are also easily processed, usually made by using electrospinning. However, a large portion of researches were conducted using PVDF membranes produced by far field electrospinning, which is not a well-controlled experimental method. In this paper, we use near field electrospinning (NFES) process for more controlled, small-scaled, mesh type PVDF structures of nano to micro fibers fabricated by controlling process parameters and investigate the properties of such membranous structures. These membranes vary according to geometrical shape, pore density, and fiber thickness. We then measured the mechanical strength and piezoelectric characteristic of the structures. With various geometries in the fiber structures and various scales in the fibers, these types of structures can potentially lead to broader applications for stretchable electronics and dielectric electro active polymers.

위성체 유연 보 구조물의 열 안정성 해석 (Thermal Stability Analysis of a Flexible Beam Spacecraft Appendage)

  • 본 논문에서는 얇은 벽보로 모델링 한 위성체 구조물에 입사되는 열 하중에 의해 발생하는 굽힘 진동과 열적 플러터에 대하여 연구하였다. 복합재료 얇은 벽보는 회전관성과 1차, 2차 와핑, 전단변형의 비고전적 요소를 포함한다. CUS구조물로 모델링한 복합재료 얇은 벽보의 열 진동 특성은 적층 순서와 섬유강화복합재료의 방향특성인자로부터 기인된 종방향 굽힘과 횡방향 굽힘의 언성과 관련하여 연구되었다. 수치 해석적인 방법으로 열적 플러터의 안정성 영역의경계값을 구하였으며, 태양 열 플럭스의 입사각, 감쇠계수, 섬유각의 변화에 의한 보의 변위를 구하였다. 주 구조물에 압전소자를 부착하여, 감지기와 작동기로 사용하여 제어해석을 수행하였다.

가스 센서 응용을 위한 압전 마이크로 칸티레버의 제작 및 특성 (Fabrication and Properties of Piezoelectric Microcantilever for Gas Sensor Application)

  • 본 연구에서는 대기 중 극 미량으로 존재하는 환경 유해 가스 성분을 검출할 수 있는 미세 소자로의 응용을 위해 마이크로 칸티레버를 제작하고 가스 센서로의 활용 가능성을 검토하였다. 마이크로 칸티레버는 크게 구동층 캐패시터로서 대표적인 압전 재료인 Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$ (PZT)를 사용하고 SiNx 박막을 지지층으로 하는 형태로 제작되었다. 제작된 마이크로 칸티레버는 치수 및 형상에 따라 17~29 KHz 의 기본 공진 주파수 값을 나타내었다. Electron beam evaporator를 이용한 copper (Cu) 박막의 단계적인 증착을 통해 칸티 레버 표면에 질량을 증가시키고 그에 따른 마이크로 칸티레버의 공진주파수 변화를 관찰한 결과 질량 증가에 대해 34 Hz/ng의 선형적인 주파수 감소를 나타내었으며, 이로부터 694.4 $\textrm{cm}^2$/g 의 gravimetric sensitivity factor를 얼을 수 있었다. 마이크로칸티레버의 가스 감지능력 시험을 위해 가스 흡착층으로 일차 알콜류의 vapor를 흡착 하는 것으로 보고된 poly methyl metacrytate (PMMA)를 마이크로 칸티레버 표면에 코팅하였다. 마이크로칸티 레버의 기본 공진 주파수 및 PMMA 흡착층 형성과 가스의 흡착에 따른 주파수 변화는 마이크로 칸티 레버로부터 의 전기적 신호를 이용하는 복소 임피던스 분석에 의해 측정되었다. PMMA가 코팅된 마이크로 칸티레버는 ethanol 및 methanol vapor 의 농도가 증가함에 따라 선형적인 공진주파수 감소를 나타내었으며, methanol vapor 의 경우 0.06 Hz/ppm 의 가스 검출 감도를 얻을 수 있었다.

$BCl_3/Ar$ 유도 결합 플라즈마를 이용한 ZnO 박막의 식각 특성 (The Etching Characteristics of ZnO thin Films using $BCl_3/Ar$ Inductively Coupled Plasma)

  • The specific electrical, optical and acoustic properties of Zinc Oxide (ZnO) are important for semiconductor process which has many various applications. Piezoelectric ZnO films has been widely used for such as transducers, bulk and surface acoustic-wave resonators, and acousto-optic devices. In this study, we investigated etch characteristics of ZnO thin films in inductively coupled plasma etch system with $BCl_3/Ar$ gas mixture. The etching characteristics of ZnO thin films were investigated in terms of etch rates and selectivities to $SiO_2$ as a function of $BCl_3/Ar$ gas mixing ratio, RF power, DC bias voltage and process pressure. The maximum ZnO etch rate of 172 nm/min was obtained for $BCl_3$ (80%)/Ar(20%) gas mixture. The chemical states on the etched surface were investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

첨가제에 의한 PWM-PSN-PZT계 세라믹의 유전특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the dielectric characteristics of PWM-PSN-PZT ceramics with additive)

  • This paper was to measure the structure, piezoelectric properties of $0.03Pb(Mg_{0.5}W_{0.5})O_3$ - $0.12Pb(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3$ - $0.85Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ + $0.5[wt%]MnO_2$ ceramics dropped with additive CuO after manufacturing the specimens with a general method. It is shown that X-ray diffraction pattern variation of lines (211) have tendency to move minutely by addition of additive CuO. According to dropping with Cu, the dielectric constant at 20[$^{\circ}C$] reduced to CuO 3.0[wt%]. In case of sintering at 1050[$^{\circ}C$], dielectric constant was maximum value 623.59 at CuO 1.0[wt%]. Dielectric loss was maximum value 2.7[%] at Cu 2.0[wt%] in case of sintering at 1050[$^{\circ}C$].
