The piezoelectric properties of the PT-PZ-PNN system ceramics were investigated depending on the variati on of the grain size. The grain size was varied by sintering temperature, and additive. The effect of the grain size on the electrical, dielectric, and piezoelectric properties was studied with respect to the feasibility of the application for the piezoelectric transformer. Grain size increased as the PMW contents increased. The smaller the particle size used, the smaller the grain size obtained. Specimens are densily sintered. Dielectric and piezoelectric properties are not always improved in proportion to the grain sizes. When he particle size are fine and the grain size are increased properly with the optimum additives, the piezoelectric preperties have good values. the specimen sintered at 1200$\^{C}$ with PMW 2 mol% and MnO$\_$2/ 0.5wt% contents exhibited good piezoelectric properties for a piezoelectric transformer.
The quartemary system ceramics 0.5[xPb(Zn$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_{3}$-(1-x)Pb(Ni$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_{3}$]-0.5[yPbTiO$_{3}$-(1-y) PbZrO$_{3}$ for piezoelectric actuators were prepared bv the were added to the raw materials up to 5 mole. Sintering temperature was varied form 1000.deg. C to 1200.deg. C. Sintering characteristrics, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were then investigated. Piezoelectric properties of sample prepared by the molten salt method were improved compared to those prepared by the conventional method. Addition of PZN shifted morphotropic phase boundary to more Zr-rich composition and decreased the piezoelectric properties.
The lead-free piezoelectric ceramics must have high piezoelectric properties and electrical properties for the applications of piezoelectric devices. Therefore, KNN ceramics were investigated as a function of the variation of Nb. The density was increased with the increase of Nb. The density was saturated above 0.8895 mol Nb. The maximum value of electromechanical coupling coefficient(kp) was obtained 0.428 at 0.8895mol Nb. This result can be attributed to the well sintered of specimens. Also, The maximum value of mechanical quality factor(Qm) showed 1554 at 0.8895mol Nb. Therefore, this composition can be used for application of piezoelectric device such as piezoelectric transformer and piezoelectric actuator.
In this paper we investigated the structural dielectric and piezoelectric properties of 0.03Pb(Sb$\_$1/2//Nb$\_$1/2/)-0.97Pb(Zr$\_$0.495//Ti$\_$0.505/)O$_3$+0.5 wt% excess PbO + wt% MnO(X=0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) ceramics to develop the high-power piezoelectric transformer. The piezoelectric transformers with dimension of 27.5$\times$27.5$\times$2.5[mm$^3$]were fabricated and their electrical properties were measured. Maxima of piezoelectric properties such as electro-mechanical coupling factor of 0.534 and mechanical quality factor of 1487 were obtained for the PSN-PZT with 0.3wt% MnO. voltage step-up ratios of piezoelectric transformers at 500[Ω]and no load were 0.78, 12.82, respectively. The maximum efficiency of piezoelectric transformer was 98.6% at 800[Ω]. While the 14W fluorescent lamp were driven by the piezoelectric transformer for more than 20[min], increment of temperature in the piezoelectric transformer was 7[$\^{C}$].
Eshelby type micro mechanics model with a newly developed piezoelectric Eshelby tensor is proposed for predicting the effective electroelastic properties of the piezoelectric composite. The model is applied for piezoelectric solids containing both porosities and metal inhomogeneities. The effective electroelastic moduli of the composites such as stiffness, piezoelectric constants, and dielectric constants are predicted by the present model, which are extensively compared with the existing experimental results from the literatures. The validity of Eshelby type model for predicting the effective properties of the composite is thoroughly examined. It can be concluded from this study that a new mechanism is needed to compute correctly the dielectric constants among the effective properties of the composites.
In this paper, a comprehensive review of nanostructures that exhibit piezoelectric behavior on all mechanical, buckling, vibrational, thermal and electrical properties is presented. It is firstly explained vast application of materials with their piezoelectric property and also introduction of other properties. Initially, more application of material which have piezoelectric property is introduced. Zinc oxide (ZnO), boron nitride (BN) and gallium nitride (GaN) respectively, are more application of piezoelectric materials. The nonlocal elasticity theory and piezoelectric constitutive relations are demonstrated to evaluate problems and analyses. Three different approaches consisting of atomistic modeling, continuum modeling and nano-scale continuum modeling in the investigation atomistic simulation of piezoelectric nanostructures are explained. Focusing on piezoelectric behavior, investigation of analyses is performed on fields of surface and small scale effects, buckling, vibration and wave propagation. Different investigations are available in literature focusing on the synthesis, applications and mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric nanostructures. In the study of vibration behavior, researches are studied on fields of linear and nonlinear, longitudinal and transverse, free and forced vibrations. This paper is intended to provide an introduction of the development of the piezoelectric nanostructures. The key issue is a very good understanding of mechanical and electrical behaviors and characteristics of piezoelectric structures to employ in electromechanical systems.
We have studied the effect of crystallization temperature, composition and film thickness, which are the fundamental processing parameters of lead zirconate titanate(PZT) thin film fabrication, in the respect of the piezoelectric properties by our pneumatic loading method(PLM). A great deal of research has been done in the field of characterization for piezoelectric thin films after the first report on the measurement for the piezoelectric coefficient of thin films in 1990. Even though the piezoelectric properties of thin films are very critical factors in the micro-electro mechanical system(MEMS) and thin film sensor devices, a few reports for the piezoelectric characterization are provided for the last decade unlikely the bulk piezoelectric devices. We have found that the piezoelectric properties of thin films are improved as the increase of crystallization temperature up to 750$\^{C}$ and this behavior can be also explained by the analysis of dielectric polarization hysteresis loop, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The effect of Zr/Ti composition has been also studied. This gives us the fact that the maximum piezoelectricity is found near Morphotropic Phase Boundary(MPB) as bulk PZT system does.
In this paper, we investigated the output power, step-up ratio and efficiency properties of piezoelectric transformer with dielectric and piezoelectric characteristics of manufactured ceramics. The piezoelectric transformers with $2.0$\times$10$\times$48[$mm^3$] size were fabricated and its electrical properties were measured. When output power of 6W was constantly maintained, T2 piezoelectric transformer showed the minimum temperature rise of $9(^{\circ}C)$ at $150(K\Omega)$ load resistance. However, T1 piezoelecric transformer showed the temperature rise of $7.2(^{\circ}C)$ at $200(K\Omega)$ load resistance. The 6[w] CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) was successfully driven by T1 and T2 piezoelectric transformer but, its temperature rise $\Delta$T[$^{\circ}C)$] was generated more than $20(^{\circ}C)$. It is concluded that we have to design the piezoelectric transformers so that its output impedance correspond to the load impeadance, including any stray capacitance.
The piezoelectric transformers of 2.0x10x48 ㎣ size were fabricated with PSN-PMN-PZT(T10 and PNW-PMN-PZT(T2) composition ceramics. Effects of micro structural and piezoelectric properties on the electrical characteristics of the piezoelectric transformers were investigated. Under the fixed output power of 6 W, temperature rise of T1 transformer at the optimum load was smaller than T2 one because of fine grain size effect. Voltage step-up ratio of T1 transformer showed higher value than T2 one T1 transformer showed an excellent properties with voltage step-up ratio of 12.41, efficiency of 95.23% and temperature rise of 7.2$^{\circ}C$ at 200㏀ load resistance. And also, T2 transformer showed an excellent properties with voltage step up ratio of 9.81, efficiency of 95.51% and temperature rise of 9$^{\circ}C$ at 150㏀ load resistance.
The effect of the electrode type on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbZrO_3-PbTiO_3$ (PMN-PZT) single crystals was investigated in an effort to improve their properties for various piezoelectric applications. First, three different types of PMN-PZT single crystals [PMN-PZT-A (piezoelectrically soft type; dielectric constant ~ 10,000), PMN-PZT-B (piezoelectrically soft type; phase-transition temperature between the rhombohedral and tetragonal phases ($T_{RT}$) ~ $145^{\circ}C$), PMN-PZT-C (piezoelectrically hard type; high mechanical quality factor ($Q_m$) ~ 1,000)] were fabricated using the solid-state single crystal growth (SSCG) method. Then, four different types of electrodes [sputtered Au, sputtered Cr/Au, sputtered Ti/Au, and fired Ag] were formed on the single crystals, and their dielectric and piezoelectric properties were measured. The single crystals with a sputtered Ti/Au electrode showed the highest dielectric and piezoelectric constants but the lowest coercive electric field ($E_C$). The single crystals with a fired Ag electrode showed the lowest dielectric and piezoelectric constants but the highest coercive electric field ($E_C$). This dependence on the type of electrode was most significant in the piezoelectrically hard PMN-PZT-C single crystals. However, the effects of the electrode type on the phase transition temperatures ($T_C$, $T_{RT}$) and dielectric loss were negligible. These results clearly demonstrate that it is important to select an appropriate electrode so as to maximize the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of single crystals in each type of piezoelectric application.
