  • A multilayer piezoelectric transformer(MPT) for step-down voltage was made by ceramic stack process. And then, the characteristics of piezoelectric transformer, such as resonance frequency, matching impedance, electro-mechanical coupling coefficient, voltage gain, heat generation and efficiency, are analyzed. The piezoelectric transformer consists of a lead zirconate titanate ceramic with a high electromechanical quality factor. The piezoelectric transformer, with a multilayered construction in the thickness direction, was formed with dimensions 15mm long, 15mm wide and 5mm thick.

  • The resonance characteristics on vibration mode of a transverse type ceramic resonator and the output voltage characteristics of a piezoelectric ceramic transformer are discussed in the effects of partial electrode arrangement (one sided, centered and both sided). A resonance characteristics of resonator depended strongly on both a vibration mode and a electrode structure because of a strain distribution. The maximum resonance current of a piezoelectric ceramic transformer [PCT] with partial centered electrode appeared in λ/2 mode, and that of a PCT with partial both sided electrode appeared in 3λ/2 mode. But the maximum output voltage of those samples appeared in λ/2 mode. In the PCT with partial both sided electrode, the ration of output voltage to input current was highest out of all samples and the poling voltage was a half times of 깬두 type transformer.

  • This paper describes a type of piezoelectric transformer with improved design principles. It consists of a thin rectangular piezoelectric ceramic plate having two input electrodes and one output electrode. The length of each input and output electrode is nearly one third of that of piezoelectric transformer itself. In the driving section, the ceramic plate is poled in the thickness direction reversely with each other, and has electrodes on both main faces. The electric input near its fundamental resonance frequency is applied to the driving section in parallel and the output voltage from the generating section is connected to the resistor load. Its equivalent circuit is derived from the Mason\`s model. The frequency characteristics near the resonance frequency under no load have been investigated. Moreover, using this piezoelectric transformer we measured the LCD backlight characteristics.

  • This paper presents design and analysis of step-down piezoelectric transformer for application to AC-adapters. These transformers are consist of rectangular type and disk type multilayered piezoelectric ceramic plate. This piezoelectric transformer operated in third thickness resonance vibration mode. Finite element methode(FEM) was used for analysing transformer. Vibration mode and electric field of piezoelectric transformer were simulated at resonance frequency. As results, rectangular type transformer's output voltage was higher than the disk type. But disk type transformer's current was lagger than rectangular type. These results are assumed that disk type transformer's mixed vibration mode influence transformer's output characteristics. From these results, we expect that disk type piezoelectric transformer is more adoptable than rectangular plate type piezoelectric transformer for AC adapters.

  • This paper present a new sort of multilayer piezoelectric ceramic transformer for AC-adapter. This piezoelectric transformer operates in the second longitudinal vibration mode. The output voltage of the multilayer piezoelectric transformer was simulated using ANSYS, that is one of the FEM analysis program. As results, the minimum displacement was occurred at the two paints where one is the middle of input and the other is middle of output side in second thickness extensional vibration mode.   • In this paper, we investigated the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb(Sb, Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_3$ ceramic(PSN) for piezoelectric transformer and actuator etc. Effect of MnO$_2$ addition on the PSN ceramic was investigated. Anisotropic properties of electromechanical coupling factor and piezoelectric properties proved to be varied with amount of MnO$_2$ impurity and sintering temperature. The electromechanical coupling factor k$_{p}$ of 0.38 and the mechanical quality factor Q$_{m}$ of 1944 were obtained from the specimen with 0.4 wt% MnO$_2$ sintered at 115$0^{\circ}C$ addition. Experimental results indicated that the PSN ceramic with MnO$_2$ impurity can be effectively used for piezoelectric transformer and actuator.tor.

  • In this study, a step-down piezoelectric transformer was fabricated to utilize as an adapter for charging batteries of mobile electronic appliances. The ceramic part of the transformer is $Pb[(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})_{0.05}Zr_{0.475}Ti_{0.475}]O_3$ with mechanical quality factor of 1600, electromechanical coupling coefficient 59 %, and piezoelectric constant d33 1300, which can be utilized as a piezoelectric transformer. A simply fabricated disk-typed test pattern of diameter 28 mm and thickness 2 mm was used to characterize resonant frequency, Qm, kp according to the different input/output electrode area. efficiency and power as a function of load resistance was also investigated. The sample APT showed some spurious mode and BPT showed better frequency property. Taking all properties which are admittance, effective electromechanical coupling coefficient and mechanical quality factor most suitable for piezoelectric transformer is BPT which has 12 mm diameter electrode and the condition of 15 Vrms, 30 $\Omega$ made the maximum efficiency of 93.7 % and maximum power is 6W with 50 Vrms.

  • The output characteristics of step-down piezoelectric transformer is changed by a structure of layers. In this paper, we simulated output characteristics of multi-layer piezoelectric transformers with variation of output layers. Also, fabricated piezoelectric transformers were compared with simulated data. From simulated piezoelectric transformers, the output voltage decreased with increasing number of layers. From these results, piezoelectric transformers were made and the output electrical power of the transformers was measured at resonance frequency and at other frequency. The electrical power of transformers was measured on each transformer's resonance mode. However, measured value of 12-layed transformer's output power was smaller than that of 6-layered transformer's one. It is supposed that internal capacitance and reactance of the piezoelectric transformer's were effected in this result. Therefore we need to connect other road resistance and capacitance in output circuit, in order to increase electrical power of transformers.

  • In this study, a step-down piezoelectric transformer was fabricated to utilize as an adapter for charging batteries of mobile electronic appliances. The ceramic part of the transformer is $Pb[(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})_{_0.05}Zr_{0.475}Ti_{0.475}]O_3$ with mechanical quality factor of 1600, electromechanical coupling coefficient $59\%$, and piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$ 1300, which can be utilized as a piezoelectric transformer. A simply fabricated disk-typed test pattern of diameter 28 mm and thickness 2 mm was used to characterize output voltage, step-down ratio as a function of electrode area with the input remained constant, and power, efficiency as a function of input voltage, and temperature-dependent electric characteristics were evaluated. The sample APT1 showed the best properties. The highest admittance, effective electromechanical coupling coefficient and an appropriate mechanical quality factor were obtained at the sample with the input/output area ratio of 1:1.5 at the common electrode, and the condition of 20 $V_{rms}$, $50\;\Omega$ made the maximum efficiency of $95\%$. The temperature was increased by 14.7'E as the input voltage was increased for $50\;V_{rms},\;50\;\Omega$.
