Micro Milling using High Frequency 2-dimensional Vibration (2차원 고주파 진동을 이용한 미세 밀링가공)

  • Using two piezoelectric materials orthogonally arranged, 2-dimensional(2D) vibration in a excitation workpiece table was generated. In this study, micro milling using high frequency 2D vibration was proposed, whose locus of cutting tool is combined with original trochoid locus of milling tool and 2D elliptical locus of excitation table. From the cutting results of 2D vibrational micro milling of nickel alloy, it was observed that the machining quality and the roughness of machined surface were enhanced compared to conventional milling in a side cutting whose immersion ration is relatively low, whereas there was little betterment in a slot cutting.

Characteristics of Rotational Vibration of Cutting Edge in Elliptical Vibration Cutting by Modulation of Excitation Frequency (타원궤적 절삭기의 가진주파수에 따른 절삭 날 회전 진동 특성)

  • The direction of the cutting tool plays a critical role in elliptical vibration cutting(EVC) where the cutting tool cuts workpiece in a trochoidal motion. In this study, EVC cutting device was developed using two parallel piezoelectric materials and it was observed that the rotation direction of the tool reverses as the EVC device undergoes resonance at which either flexural(cutting direction) or longitudinal( thrust direction) mode shapes occurs. To analytically explain reversal of the rotation direction, kinematic motion analysis of the tool was modified to incorporate amplification of the vibration amplitude and phase introduced by resonance. It successfully demonstrated, through Matlab simulation, reversal of the rotation direction of the cutting tool as the excitation frequency increases beyond resonance frequencies at which either flexural or longitudinal vibration occurs.

Effect of flux on low temperature sintering for PNN-PT-PZ piezoelectric ceramics (PNN-PT-PZ계 압전세라믹스의 저온소결에 미치는 flux의 영향)

  • 기본조성이 0.5[Pb(Ni$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_{3}$]-0.5[0.65PbTiO$_{3}$ -0.35PbZrO$_{3}$] (PNN-PT-PZ)인 압전세라믹스를 NaCl-KCI를 사용한 flux의 양 및 소결온도에 따른 생성반응과 소결특성, 유전 및 압전특성을 조사하였다. 이때 1몰의 산화물에 대한 flux의 양은 0.1, 2 및 5mole로 하였으며 소결온도는 1000-1200.deg.C로 하였다. 본 연구의 flux법은 고상반응법에 비해 낮은 하소온도에서 pyrochlore상을 현저히 줄일수 있었으며 고상반응법보다 낮은 온도에서 치밀화가 이루어질뿐 아니라 유전 및 압전특성을 개선할 수 있었으며 소결온도도 낮출 수 있었다. Flux의 양이 증가할수록 결정의 입성장이 빨랐으며 유전 및 압전특성이 가장 좋은 flux의 첨가량의 조건은 1mole이었다.

Detection of odorants and study on the odorant sensor system by using SAW device (SAW 디바이스를 이용한 냄새물질 측정 및 냄새센서 시스템의 연구)

  • A surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor for the detection of odorants has been constructed by depositing various phospholipids and fatty acids onto the surface of the SAW device. The characteristics of a SAW device operating at 310 MHz deposited with silicon monoxide were analyzed. Menthone, amylacetate, acetoin, and other organic gases show different affinities to the coated lipids. An explanation is given for different odorant affinities based on the monolayer properties of phospholipids. The identification of odorants depending on the tkpe of lipid used for coating is discussed in terms of the similarity of their normalized resonant frequency shift patterns. Using a number of different lipid-coated SAW devices, odorants can be identified by a computerized pattern recognition algorithm.

  • A method for the non-destructive detection of damage using parameterized partial differential equations and Galerkin approximation techniques is presented. This method provides the theoretical and experimental verification of a nondestructive time domain approach to examine structural damage in smart structure. The time histories of the vibration response of structure were used to identify the presence of damage. Damage in a structure causes changes in the physical coefficients of mass density, elastic modulus and damping coefficient.   • By generating 2-directional vibration in a xy plane of workpiece table, a newly developed micro drilling using 2-directional vibration was carried out. The vibration was produced by applying sinusoidal voltages to the orthogonally arranged piezoelectric materials built in the workpiece excitation table. Through the micro-drilling experiments using poly-carbonate and brass material, it was found that micro drilling using 2-directional vibration in a workpiece table could be an efficient method to enhance the form accuracy of machined workpiece by suppressing burr formation at both entry and exit region. A higher form accuracy could be obtained by increasing stiffness of feeding mechanism, decrease of geometric tolerance of combining jig, and development of high performance excitation table which generates amplified vibration at higher frequency.

  • The existing technical limitation makes engineer imitate nature to solve engineering problems. Recently Micro Air Vehicle(MAV) imitating the mechanism of birds or insects is being developed. Especially Ultra Flite supported by DARPA is studying hummingbird aerodynamics to relate that information to MAV. To drive MAV bender piezoelectric(PZT) actuators are used due to the convinience of control and the small size. But the displacement of the PZT actuators are very small, and the wing driving mechanism which amplifies the stroke generated by the PZT actuators has constraints in design and manufacture because of the small dimension. In this paper a wing design concept and a efficient driving mechanism are proposed. Electroactive polymers(EAPs) are used as wing mechanism actuators. Using OpenGL the mechanisms are simulated graphically. Also a prototype actuator is being developed and verified by digital Mockup with CATIA. Basic kinematics of the mechanism is studied.

  • 폴리비닐리덴플루오라이드 바이모프 외팔보(poly(vinylidene fluoride) bimorph cantilever beam)의 진동을 기술하는 수학적 모형을 세우고 실험으로 그모형의 타당성을 고 찰하였다. 여러 전압의 교류전류에 대해 여러 길이의 외팔보의 주파수응답을 측정하였고 여 러 전압의 직류전류에 대해 여러 길이의 외팔보의 처짐을 측정하였다. 실험으로부터 이 외 팔보의 진동은 점성감쇠보다는 구조감쇠로 기술하는 것이 더 타덩하고 외팔보가 전기장에 대해 damping factor가 일정해야 하나 각각의 normal mode에 대해 다른 damping factor로 수정하여 계산한이론치가 실험과 더 일치하였다. 공명주파수의 공명진폭을 예측할수 있고 넓은 입력주파수 영역에 대한 외팔보의 응답을 기술 할수 있으며 진동하는 외팔보는 모든위 치에서의 진폭을 기술할수 있다는 점에서 여기서의 모형은 Toda와 Smits의 모형들보다 우 수하다고 볼수 있다.

Degradation of 0.2PMN-0.8PZT Multilayer Ceramic Actuators

  • Aging characteristics of 0.2PMN-0.8PZT multilayer ceramic actuators (MCA) has been investigated by applying both triangular wave function for unpoled and unipolar wave for poling. P-E hysteresis loops of the MCA had been distorted after about 90 million cycles running in triangular wave function. Effective electromechanical coupling coefficient was calculated in resonant and anti resonant frequencies. And pseudo-piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$ was also estimated from the strain versus electric field characteristics. The crack growth of MCA was clearly observed along to the boundary between electrode and inactive area. That results were thought due to the internal tensile stress came from both actuation of $d_{33}$ mode and motion of Poisson ratio.

  • Polymer-coated piezoelectric crystals were applied to analyze response characteristic of organic gases. AT-cut quartz crystal with 9 MHz resonant frequency can measure mass of 1 nanogram. Flow type gas-sensing system was used in this experiment. Flow type gas-sensing system has very simple apparatus and shows very fast frequency response for injection of organic gas. We have made parameter using relaxation ratio of frequency response for organic gas. Consequently, we found that the parameter had no relation with quantity of gas injection and dipping.
