Effects of piezoelectric material on the performance of Tonpilz transducer using finite element method (Tonpilz 트랜스듀서의 성능에 미치는 압전소재의 영향)

  • Effects of the shape and size of the piezoelectric materials on the performance of tonpilz transducers were studied with a computer simulation using a finite element method (FEM). The diameter and height of the donut-shaped piezoelectric ceramics head mass were changed as variables. And the effect of the stack number was also investigated. Finally, if the piezoelectric ceramics were changed to a piezoelectric single crystal having high piezoelectric constants, how the performances especially, the output power and the TVR transmittance were affected was simulated by FEM. As a result, the output of transducer could be increased to 10 times of PZT-4 with replacement of relaxor single crystal of the same size.

Microstructure and Piezoelectric Properties of Low Temperature Sintering (Na,K,Li)(Nb,Sb,Ta)O3 Ceramics (저온소결 (Na,K,Li)(Nb,Sb,Ta)O3계 세라믹스의 미세구조 및 압전특성)

  • In this paper, piezoelectric ceramics with the composition of $(Na_{0.525}K_{0.4425}Li_{0.0375})(Nb_{0.8975}Sb_{0.065}Ta_{0.0375})O_3+0.3wt%\;CoO+x\;CuO$ ($0.005{\leq}x{\leq}0.025$) (abbreviated to NKL-NST) were fabricated for ultrasonic sensor application. The effects of CuO addition and sintering on the microstructure and the piezoelectric properties of the NKL-NST ceramics were systematically studied. Excellent piezoelectric properties such as electromchanical coupling $factor(k_p)=0.415$, piezoelectric constant $(d_{33})=166pC/N$ and piezoelectric figure of merit $d_{{33}*}g_{33}=5.47pm^2/N$ were obtained from the 2.5 mol% CuO doped NKL-NST+0.3 wt%CoO ceramics sintered at $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 3 h.

Phenomenological Analysis of Piezoelectric Properties in 0.88Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3−0.12PbTiO3 Single Crystals with an Engineering Domain Configuration

  • The piezoelectric properties of tetragonal 0.88Pb$(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3)O_3-0.12PbTiO_3$ single crystals are characterized along the <111> direction, which composed the engineering domain configuration in the tetragonal phase. The <111>-oriented crystal possessed smaller $d_{33}$ values compared to the crystal along the <001> spontaneous polarization direction. Based on phenomenological theory, it is shown that the engineering domain configuration does not enhance the piezoelectric constant in tetragonal 0.88Pb$(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3)O_3-0.12PbTiO_3$ single crystals. In addition, the electrostrictive coefficients of $Q_{12}=-0.03706m^4/C^2,\;Q_{11}=0.10765m^4/C^2,\;and\;Q_{44}=0.02020m^4/C^2$ of tetragonal 0.88PZN-0.12PT single crystals were calculated.

  • Wurtzite nanomaterials, such as ZnO, GaN, and InN, have become a subject of great scientific and technological interest as they simultaneously have piezoelectric and semiconductor properties. In particular, the piezoelectric potential (piezopotential) created by dynamic straining in the nanowires drives a transient flow of current in the external load, converting mechanical energy into electricity. Further, the piezopotential can be used to control the carrier generation, transport, separation, and/or recombination at the metal-semiconductor junction or p-n junction, which is called the piezophototronic effect. This paper reviews the recent advances on the piezophototronic effect to better use the piezophototronic effect to control the carrier generation, transport, separation and/or recombination for improving the performance of optoelectronic devices, such as photon detectors, solar cells and LEDs. This paper also discusses several research and design studies that have improved the output performance of optoelectronic devices.

DC Characteristics of AlGaN/GaN HFETs Using the Modeling of Piezoelectric and Thermal Effects (Piezoelectric효과와 열 효과 모델링을 고려한 AlGaN/GaN HFET의 DC 특성)

  • In this paper, we report on the DC characteristics of the AlGaN/GaN HFETs using physical models on piezoelectric and thermal effects. Employing the models was found to be essential for a realistic prediction of the DC current-voltage characteristics of the AlGaN/GaN HFETs. Though use of the implementation of the physical models, peak drain current, transconductance, pinch-off voltage, and most importantly, the negative slope in the current were accurately predicted. The importance of the heat sink effect was demonstrated by the comparison of the DC characteristics of AlGaN/GaN HFETs fabricated from different substrates including sapphire, Si and SiC. Highest peak current was achieved from the device with SiC by an effective suppression of heat sink effect.

Microstructures and Electrical Properties of (Na,K)NbO3 Piezoceramics with Various Solvents at Milling Process (혼합공정의 용매가 (Na,K)NbO3 압전체의 미세구조 및 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • $(Na,K)NbO_3$-based piezoelectric ceramics were synthesized by a solid phase sintering method with various milling solvents. The solvents were varied with acetone, ethanol, and pure water to investigate the effect on the microstructure and electrical properties. NKN ceramics showed the maximum values of the relative density (94%), the mechanical quality factor (Qm: 78) and the electro-mechanical coupling factor ($k_p$: 0.25) at the ethanol solvent. It might mean that a solid phase sintering of the NKN piezoelectrics with a suitable solvent could improve the relative density and the piezoelectric properties.

Low-Temperature Sintering and Piezoelectric Properties of $(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3$ Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics

  • $(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3$ (NKN) ceramic with 1.5 mol% CuO added (NKNC) was well sintered even at a low temperature of $900^{\circ}C$ with the addition of ZnO. Most of the ZnO reacted with the CuO and formed the liquid phase that assisted the densification of the specimens at $900^{\circ}C$. A few $Zn^{2+}$ ions entered the matrix of the specimens and increased the coercive field ($E_c$) and $Q_m$ values of the specimens. High-piezoelectric properties of $k_p=0.37$, $Q_m=755$, and ${\varepsilon}_3\;^T/{\varepsilon}_0=327$ were obtained from the NKNC ceramics containing 1.0 mol% ZnO sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h.

Effect of Internal Bias Field on Poling Behavior in Mn-Doped Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-29 mol%PbTiO3 Single Crystal

  • Electrical poling is a crucial step to convert ferroelectrics to piezoelectrics. Nevertheless, no systematic investigation on the effect of poling has been reported. Given that the poling involves an alignment of spontaneous polarization, the condition for poling should be different when a material has an internal bias field that influences the domain stability. Here, we present the effect of poling profile on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties in Mn-doped Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-29 mol%PbTiO3 single crystal with an internal bias field. We showed that both the dielectric permittivity and the piezoelectric coefficient were further enhanced when the poling procedure ends with a field application along the opposite direction to the internal bias field. We expect that the current finding would give a clue to understanding the true mechanism for the electrical poling.

  • In this study, the method of the finite element modeling for free vibration control of beam-type smart structures with bonded plate-type piezoelectric sensors and actuators is proposed. Constitutive equations for the direct piezoelectric effect and converse piezoelectric effect of piezoelectric materials are considered. By using the variational principle, the equations of motion for the smart beam finite element are derived. The proposed 2-node beam finite element is an isoparametric element based on Timoshenko beam theory. Therefore, by analyzing beam-type smart structures with smart beam finite elements, it is possible to simulate the control of the structural behavior by applying voltages to piezoelectric actuators and monitoring of the structural behavior by sensing voltages of piezoelectric sensors. By using the smart beam finite element and constant-gain feed back control scheme, the formulation of the free nitration control for the beam structures with bonded plate-tyPe Piezoelectric sensors and actuators is proposed.

Spectra is manufacturing a printhead specifically for display manufacturing. This printhead contains a robust material set and is intended to allow calibration of individual nozzles to meet uniformity requirements of+/-2% for display manufacture.
