소산실험 결과를 이용한 연약지반의 압축지수 추정 (Estimation of Compression Index in Soft Soils using Dissipation Test Results)

  • In this study, new parameter related with compression index was derivated from piezocone test results. It is assumed that the consolidation coefficient obtained by piezocone test is concerned with the volume change during piezocone dissipation. Based on that assumption, new parameter in terms of consolidation coefficient from piezocone test was introduced. The new parameter from piezocone test and the compression index from laboratory consolidation test shows linear relationship.

  • For a commonly used piezocone with a shoulder filter element, dilatory dissipation behavior, which shows an initial temporary increase in pore pressure, has been observed in overconsolidated cohesive soils. However, there is no appropriate way to estimate a consolidation parameter from a dilatory dissipation curve because currently available interpretation methods were developed based on the monotonic decrease of the excess pore pressure. In this study, the interpretation method for evaluation of coefficient of consolidation from a dilatory dissipation result of piezocone test was developed by performing the finite difference analysis on the dissipation after cone penetration. The distribution of the initial excess pore pressure induced by cone penetration, which is the core of the analysis, was estimated from the empirical modification of a solution proposed by cavity expansion theory and critical state concept. And the proposed interpretation method was applied to the field piezocone data and the results were compared to those obtained from laboratory tests. Its reliability was confirmed by the insignificant difference between the values of coefficient of consolidation from piezocone tests and laboratory consolidation tests.

인천국제공항지역의 피에조콘조사와 결과의 적용 (The Application of Piezocone Penetration Test at Inchon International Airport)

  • Piezocone Penetration Test has been performed in the soft ground over the site preparation area at Inchon International Airport(IIA). With the pore pressure dissipation test results, the changes in the permeability and the coefficient of consolidation in clayey soil were checked and the differences of the undrained shear stength verified the soft ground improvement effect from vane test and piezocone test both before and after the improvement. From the results, thin sand seam was found and this caused a big difference in the coefficient of permeability and consolidation. The coefficient of consolidation was high in the upper marine deposit and relatively low in lower marine deposit. It was found that the reduction of void ratio by preloading resulted in the reduction of coefficient of consolidation after the ground improvement. In addition, there were some variations of undrained shear strength when the number of 15 or 18 was used as the coefficient of piezocone(Nkt). However, when the average value of undrained shear strength calculated using Nkt=10 was applied, the result indicated the similar average value with the result of vane test and the increasing rate of strength( Δsu/Δ$\sigma$≒0.38) also showed the similar distribution.

  • This paper describes a systematic way of simultaneously identifying the ambient pore pressure and the rigidity index (=G/s$\_$u/) of soil by applying an optimization technique to the piezocone dissipation test result. An ambient pore pressure and optimal rigidity index were determined by minimizing the differences between theoretical excess pore pressures developed by Randolph & Wroth(1979) and measured excess pore pressures from piezocone using optimization technique. The effectiveness of the proposed back-analysis method was examined against the well-documented performance of piezocone dissipation tests (Tanaka & Sakagami, 1989), from the viewpoints of proper determination of selected target parameters and saving of test duration. It is shown that the proposed back-analysis method can evaluate properly the ambient pore pressure and the rigidity index by using only the early phase of the dissipation test data. Also, it is shown that with the optimized rigidity index and ambient pore pressure the proposed back-analysis method permits the horizontal coefficient of consolidation to be identified rationally.

  • Based on the results obtain from the investigation of Nak-Dong River District, it was classified as very thick, soft soil deposit. Furthermore, during the construction of structures large settlements are expected. Since large settlement affects the structures life, it is very important to accurately determine the consolidation of soil based on the obtained results. In this study piezocone test and laboratory test were performed to determine the consoildtion properties of Nak-Dong River District Pusan, Gyeong-Nam province. Degree of consoildation and the coefficient of consoildation obtained from the data of piezocone test and the results of the Oedometer test were compared and analyzed. Using the results the porewater pressure coefficient($B_q$) was obtained and the relationship with the Plasticity Index was also determined. From the results of this study the effects of the degree of consolidation and consolidation coefficient, and the porewater pressure coefficient and the Plasticity Index was determined.

  • Laboratory and field investigations of the coefficient of vertical and horizontal consolidation for Yangsan clay deposit were carried out using the conventional oedometer, Rowecell and piezocone test. Correlation among these test methods were also studied. In this paper, the relationship between vertical and horizontal consolidation were suggested such as C$\sub$h(Oed)/=0.75∼1.46 C$\sub$v(Oed)/, C$\sub$h(Rowecell) =1.95∼2.93 C$\sub$v(Oed)/, C$\sub$h(piezocone)/ =1.0∼5.0 C$\sub$v(Oed)/. As a result, a fair approximate estimations of C$\sub$h/ can be made by simple test using the conventional oedometer tests.

  • 압밀계수는 지반과잉간극수압의 소산속도를 지배하므로 연약지반 개량공법 설계에 적용되는 매우 중요한 특성치의 하나로서 원위치의 압밀계수는 피에조 콘 소산시험을 통하여 추정된다. 간극수압 소산시험으로 추정되는 압밀계수 추정에 적용되는 기존의 이론해 들의 국내 해성점토 지반 적용성을 검토하고 점토 지반의 특성에 따른 압밀계수의 변화 특성을 파악하여 원위치 압밀계수에 대한 합리적 추정에 적합한 이론해를 선정하는 것이 이 연구의 목적이다. 이 연구에서는 경남 양산물금 지역의 해성 점성토층을 대상으로 피에조 콘 소산시험과 불교란 시료에 대한 실내시험(Rowe cell 등)을 실시하고 시험결과를 이론해에서 얻어진 수평압밀계수와 표준압밀시험(oedometer test), Rowe cell 시험결과와 비교하였다. 또한 점성토의 여러 지반 특성치(선행압밀압력 등)와 압밀계수의 관계를 고찰하여 합리적인 이론해 선정을 위한 기준을 마련하고자 하였다. 연구결과 Torstensson(원통형공동이론)해와 Teh & Houlsby의 해가 매우 유사한 값을 보이며, 표준압밀시험으로 추정한 수평압밀계수는 단계별 모두 Torstensson(원통형) 또는 Teh & Houlsby의 이론해와 유사하게 나타났다. 따라서, 피에조 콘 시험으로 수평압밀계수를 구하는 방법으로서 위의 이론해 들[Torstensson(원통형) or The & Houlsby]에 의한 산정치를 취하도록 추천되었다.

피에조 콘과 딜라토메터 시험을 이용한 연약지반의 현장특성 비교 (Comparison of Tn-situ Characteristics of Soft Deposits Using Piezocone and Dilatometer)

  • 대상 연약지반의 적절한 개량기술 선택과 개량 효과들을 평가, 관리하기 위해서는 현장 연약 점토지반 특성을 정확히 평가할 수 있는 적절한 현장 시험기법의 적용이 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 여러 현장시험 방법 중에 경제적이면서도 효과적인 것으로 알려져 국내에서 그 수요가 증가하고 있는 피에조 콘(piezocone)과 딜라토메터(dilatometer)를 이용하여 연약지반의 현장 물성을 평가하고 비교하였다. 연구결과 두 장비 모두 유사한 흙 분류 결과를 제공하였으나. 특히 간극수압으로부터 도출한 흙 분류 결과가 연약점토층 사이에 실트나 모래층 들이 산재한 우리나라 실정에 보다 적절하며 일관성 있는 결과를 주는 것으로 평가되었다. 점토층의 비배수 전단강도는 피에조 콘의 경우 간극수압과 선단저항력으로부터 도출된 간들이 유사하였고 딜라토메터로부터 추정된 비배수 전단강도는 피에조 콘의 두 관측 값으로 유추된 결과들의 평균간에 근접한 것으로 평가되었다. 그리고 실트 또는 모래층이 산재하는 경우 연약지반의 압밀특성을 평가하기 위해서는 관입과정에서 유발되는 소산효과를 고려한 이론적 시간계수가 보다 적절한 것으로 평가된다.

인천국제공항 부지 해성 점토에 대한 피에조콘과 딜라토미터 시험 결과 비교 (Comparison of Piezocone and Dilatometer Test Results on Inchon International Airport Marine Clay)

  • Piezocone test as well as Dilatometer tests are used worldwide to evaluate the engineering properties of clay soils. The common strong point of the two tests is that they can estimate, by the identical test equipment, various properties of soils, which are the unit weight of soils of OCR, K$\sub$o/, undrained shear strength(s$\sub$u/), coefficient of consolidation(c$\sub$h/) and soil classification etc,. A series of the two types of field tests are performed in this study on marine clays with low plasticity at Inchon International Airport construction site to estimate various properties of the soils such as s$\sub$u/, OCR, and c$\sub$h/, which are then compared each other as well as with the results of reference tests. The comparisons show that the way of interpretation is the most critical factor in obtaining confidential results for a certain engineering property for both tests.

Estimating coefficient of consolidation and hydraulic conductivity from piezocone test results - Case studies

  • The methods for estimating in-situ hydraulic conductivity ($k_{hp}$) and coefficient of consolidation ($c_{hp}$) in the horizontal direction from piezocone penetration and dissipation test results have been investigated using test results at two sites in Saga, Japan. At the two sites the laboratory values of hydraulic conductivity ($k_v$) and coefficient of consolidation ($c_v$) in the vertical direction are also available. Comparing $k_{hp}$ with $k_v$ and $c_{hp}$ with $k_v$ values, suitable methods for estimating $k_{hp}$ and $c_{hp}$ values are recommended. For the two sites, where $k_{hp}{\approx}k_v$ and $c_{hp}{\approx}2c_v$. It is suggested that the estimated values of $k_{hp}$ and $c_{hp}$ can be used in engineering design.
