  • In this study, a prototype piezo-driven Injector. as a new method driven by piezoelectric energy, has been designed and fabricated based on the concept of inverse piezo-electric effect to overcome the major drawbacks of conventional solenoid-driven injector with a fixed and slow control of injection rate. The effects of an electric control between the solenoid valve and piezo-ceramic stack for injector needle's driving on the dynamic characteristics were usually investigated. We found that this piezo-electric actuator has the main advantage to drastically reducing the time of injector nozzle opening, as well to exert higher force output levels.

  • Carriers moving in a semiconductor can impart gain or loss to an acousic wave traveling through Piezo-electric materials. In this paper, surface a coustic wave amplifiers, which employ the interaction between carriers drifting in a semiconduct or film and electic fields accompanying a Rayleigh wave propagating on a Piezoelectric substrate, are described. The effect of various electromagnetic boundary condition on th propagation of surface waves in Piezoelectrics is considered. An expression for the dependence of surface wave velocity on electic boundary conditions is derived. Calculations show that, for properly prepared material, significant amplification is expected up to the microwave frequencies. At high frequencies, gain is reduced because electro diffusion smooths out the electron bucning necessary for amplification.

  • In this work, transient thermo-piezo-elastic responses of an infinite functionally graded piezoelectric (FGPE) plate whose upper surface suffers time-dependent thermal shock are investigated in the context of different thermo-piezo-elastic theories. The thermal and mechanical properties of functionally graded piezoelectric plate under consideration are expressed as power functions of plate thickness variable. The solution of problem is obtained by solving the corresponding finite element governing equations in time domain directly. Transient thermo-piezo-elastic responses of the FGPE plate, including temperature, stress, displacement, electric intensity and electric potential are presented graphically and analyzed carefully to show multi-field coupling behaviors between them. In addition, the effects of functionally graded parameters on transient thermo-piezo-elastic responses are also investigated to provide a theoretical basis for the application of the FGPE materials.

  • A nonlinear ultrasonic parameter is defined by the ratio of displacement amplitude of the fundamental frequency component to that of the second-order harmonic frequency component. In this study, the ultrasonic displacement amplitude of an SUS316 specimen was measured via a piezo-electric-based method to identify the validity of piezo-electric detection method. For comparison, the ultrasonic displacement was also determined via a laser-based Fabry-Pérot interferometer. The experimental results for both measurements were in good agreement. Additionally, the stability of the repeated test results from the piezo-electric method exceeded that of the laser-interferometric method. This result indicated that the piezo-electric detection method can be utilized to measure a nonlinear ultrasonic parameter due to its excellent stability although it involves a complicated process.

  • Comparative analysis of driving inverters for piezo-electric transformer (PT) is performed and the suit- able drive circuit for portable devices such as personal digital assistants (PDA) is chosen with the experiment in this paper. As a result, a single-switch inverter with a small two winding reactor is chosen, and then the advantages of this method are clarified. It is also confirmed that the driving inverter with this method enables to realize a stabilized AC 400v output and 82% power efficiency from DC 3V input under the conditions of the variations of load current or input voltage from the experiments. • The present article researches large-amplitude thermal free vibration characteristics of nonlocal two-phase piezo-magnetic nano-size beams having geometric imperfections by considering piezoelectric reinforcement scheme. The piezoelectric reinforcement can cause an enhanced vibration behavior of smart nanobeams under magnetic field. All previous studies on vibrations of piezoelectric-magnetic nano-size beams ignore the influences of geometric imperfections which are crucial since a nanobeam is not always ideal or perfect. Nonlinear governing equations of a smart nanobeam are derived based on classical beam theory and an analytical trend is provided to obtain nonlinear vibration frequency. This research shows that changing the volume fraction of piezoelectric phase in the material has a great influence on vibration behavior of smart nanobeam under electric and magnetic fields. Also, it can be seen that nonlinear vibration behaviors of smart nanobeam is dependent on the magnitude of exerted electric voltage, magnetic imperfection amplitude and substrate constants.

  • The present paper deals with the application of one dimensional piezoelectric materials in particular piezo-thermoelastic nanobeam. The generalized piezo-thermo-elastic theory with two temperature and Euler Bernoulli theory with small scale effects using nonlocal Eringen's theory have been used to form the mathematical model. The ends of nanobeam are considered to be simply supported and at a constant temperature. The mathematical model so formed is solved to obtain the non-dimensional expressions for lateral deflection, electric potential, thermal moment, thermoelastic damping and frequency shift. Effect of frequency and nonlocal parameter on the lateral deflection, electric potential, thermal moment with generalized piezothermoelastic theory are represented graphically using the MATLAB software. Comparisons are made with the different theories of thermoelasticity.

  • Ultra-precision positioning plays a crucial role in emerging technologies such as electronics, bioengineering, optics, and various nanofabrication technologies. As a result, various nanopositioning methods have been presented. In particular, nanopositioning using a flexure mechanism and piezo-electric actuator is one of the most valuable methods because of its friction-free motion and subnanometer-scale motion resolution. In this study, a rotational nanoactuator based on a right-circular flexure mechanism and piezo-electric actuator was developed through a consideration of the kinematics and structural deformation. An experimental setup was constructed to verify the performance expectation. Consequently, it was demonstrated that the developed system had a maximum rotational angle of about 0.01 rad, as well as sufficient linearity with respect to the input voltage.

  • This paper reports an experimental investigation to design a tree-shaped wind power system using piezo-electric materials. The proposed system is to produce power if wind is strong enough to produce any bending motions in the energy converting elements, i.e., piezo-electric materials. Two different kinds of piezoelectric materials are used in the present study to produce power by scavenging energy from the wind. The soft flexible one made the leaf element while the hard one was applied to the trunk portion of the tree requiring rather strong winds to generate any power. Although small, each leaf deems to play the role of a power producer and currents are continuously trickling down to the storage battery installed at the bottom of the system.
