차영상을 이용한 웨이브렛 동영상 압축 및 복원 시스템 (Wavelet picture Compression and Decompression system Using Difference Image)

  • In this paper we present new idea to highly compress the images. The previous image is transformed with wavelet and the transformed data are transmitted. The previous image is subtracted from the next image. Then difference values per pixel are scanned to search motion areas and boundaries. In the motion boundaries, motion vectors and error values are transformed with wavelet and transmitted. We also include camera motion estimation and compensation. In this method this system has advantages of more compressive data, better quality of picture and shorter processing time compared to MPEG2, MPEG4.

  • New display technologies including LCD and plasma panels and Digital Light Projection (DLP) systems all offer large screens and impressive picture quality. However, flat-panel displays require a sophisticated picture processing to let these panels perform at their optimum levels. This paper explains why motion compensating techniques combined with frame rate conversion and quasi-impulse driving reduces motion blur and film judder for flat panel displays and presents the IC and its system application using this technique.

  • With the rapid development of communication technology and widespread uses of internet service, utilization of internet-based medical information systems which transmitts moving pictures of medical objects is becoming a common practice. The internet-based medical information service prvovides richer information than conventional services such as touch-tone telephone, personal computers e-mails, or pagers, because "a picture is worth a thousand words". However, the systems passively transmits moving pictures of the medical objects to the users, and thus the system cannot intelligently adjust itself to provide better service. As the tradeoff exists between transmission speed and quality of the image, there is a need that moving pictures be analyzed to adjust the trnasmission speed and image quality. When very little difference between consecutive images are detected, the system can automatically increase the size of the image files, thus enhancing the quality of image. In contrast, the system should increase the number of images to send more pictorial information by sacrificing the quality of each individual image, when a significant difference is detected. In this paper an adaptive filtering technique is introduced which adjusts the quality of image and transmission speed according to a clinical situation in hospital.

  • Long-term global motion compensation (LT-GMC) was designed to compensate camera motion effectively. The LT-GMC warps a reference picture according to an estimated affine/homography model and stores it in its decoded picture buffer for long-term reference. Most previous works on LT-GMC have focused on improving quality of the warped picture, however, there has been only little consideration on the overhead of its motion coding. In this paper, we address this problem and propose a method, namely Scaling Predictor, to reduce the motion coding overhead for LT-GMC. Our experiment has shown BD-Rate reduction of 1.40% over conventional LT-GMC scheme by applying the proposed method.

  • 본 논문에서는 병원에서의 PACS(Picture Archiving and Communications System)의 필요성을 갖고 있으나 경제적인 문제로 인하여 향후 PACS를 도입이 어려움이 있는 병원에서는 고가의 장비를 구입을 할 수 없으므로 가중치 메디안 필터를 이용하여 전처리 필터링을 거친 영상을 가지고 웨이브렛 분해와 웨이브렛 영역에서 처리된 영상을 역변환시켜 복원한 뒤에 명암의 개선을 위해 히스토그램 평활화(Histogram equalization)을 적용하여 영상 품질을 향상하여 이를 의료영상에 적용하여 특징 추출하였다. 이는 차후, 의료영상의 진단 및 관찰에 적용시 보다 더 효율적인 시스템 적용을 목적으로 하였다.

국부 분산을 이용한 장면 전환 적응 비트율 제어 (Scence Change Adaptive Bit Rate Control Using Local Variance)

  • The bit rate control algorithm which is capable of handing scene change is proposed. In MPEG-2 TM5, block variance is used to measure block activity. But block variance is not consistent with human visual system and does not differenciate the distribution of pixel values within the block. In target bit allocation process of TM5, global complexity, obtained by results of previous coded pictures, is used. Since I pictures are spaced relatively far apart, their complexity estimate is not very accurate. In the proposed algorithm local variance is used to measure block activity and detect scene change. Local variance, using deviation from the mean of neighboring pixels, well represents the distribution of pixel values within the block. If scene change is detected, the local variance information is used for target bit allocation process. Allocating target bits for I picture, the average local variance difference between previous and current I picture is considered. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can detect scene change very precisely and gives better picture quality and higher PSNR values than MPEG-2 TM5.

만 2, 4세 유아와 어머니의 그림책 읽기 상호작용에 관한 연구 (Interactions between 2-and-4 year-old Children and their Mothers During a Joint Picture-Book Reading)

  • The purpose of this research was to find out how the interactions between mothers and their children differed depending on the age of the child and the type of book. The subjects of this study were thirty 2-year-olds and thirty 4-year-olds and their mothers. The number of male and female children was the same. The maternal interactions were analyzed in term of attention gelling, explanation, request, asking questions, and feedbacks, and the children's verbal and nonverbal reactions were also analyzed. The results showed that the characteristics of the mother and child interactions were different according the age of the child and the type of picture books. The results were discussed from the perspective of maternal scaffolding and the quality of mother-child interactions. The implications of the study were suggested in terms of the importance of the picture books and maternal roles in reading pictures books to their child.

  • In darkroom condition, it was observed that a white picture pattern lasted several minutes leaves a recognizable trace in subsequent black background picture. Although this is not a serious problem for the most current public display or home TV applications, the image sticking should be minimized for future high quality multimedia display applications. In order to characterize this picture memory effect having relatively long time scale, spatially resolved luminance measurement and light waveform measurement have been performed. Pixels located at the outer boundary of white pattern previously displayed shows highest luminance. These cells also shows fastest ignition at the ramp up reset sequence. The luminance and ignition voltage differences between boundary cells and the other cells are increased with display duration and number of sustain-pulse. It is speculated that image sticking observed at the boundary cell is originated from the transport of charged particles and re-deposition of reactive species such as Mg, O provided from strong sustain discharge region.

  • MPEG-2 비디오 부호화 과정에서 비트율 제어를 위해 MPEG-2 Test Model 5 (TM5) 알고리즘이 널리 사용되고 있지만, 실제로는 각 화면에 할당되는 목표 비트수와 실제 부호화된 비트수가 잘 맞지 않아 한 GOP의 마지막 부분에서 버퍼 넘침 현상과 화질의 급격한 열화 현상이 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 부호화하고자 하는 블록의 이전 블록에서 실제 발생된 비트수와 예측에 의한 비트수 사이의 관계를 이용하여 정확한 비트수를 할당함으로써, 각 화면의 목표 비트수와 실제 발생되는 부호화 비트수를 정합시키는 새로운 비트율 제어 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 화면내에서 일관된 화질을 유지하며, 실시간 처리도 가능하다.

  • 장면전환에 따른 화질열화는 예상 비트량과 실제 부호화량의 차이가 많을 때 발생한다. 특히 장면전환이 P화면에서 발생된 경우에는 장면전환이 발생된 P화면뿐만 아니라, P화면을 참조하는 화면들의 화질에 심각한 열화가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 장면전환이 발생했을 때 부적절한 비트율 제어의 원인을 토대로 장면전환 화면과 이후 화면들의 화질을 개선하는 방법을 제시하였다. 장면전환 화면에는 추가비트를 할당하는 기존 방법과 예상 비트를 인트라 화면의 부호화 수준으로 할당하는 새로운 방법을 적용하였다. 그리고 장면전환 이후 화면들에는 예상 비트 할당을 장면전환 발생이전 화면의 부호화 수준으로 할당하는 방법을 제안하여 화질을 개선시켰다. 실험 결과 제안하는 알고리즘이 기존 알고리즘보다 화질향상이 있었고, TM5와 비교해서는 0.5∼1.2dB의 PSNR 향상을 보였다.
