Changes in Physico-chemical Properties of Moss Peat Based Root Media and Growth of Potted Chrysanthemums as Influenced by Blending Ratios of Root Media in a C-channel Mat Irrigation System

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate physical and chemical characteristics by volume fractions of root media using peatmoss, perlite, and vermiculite, along with effects on the growth of pot chrysanthemums (Dendranthema ${\times}$ grandiflorum 'Vemini') in a C-channel mat irrigation system. To evaluate the physico-chemical properties of 20 root media, the bulk density, particle density, total pore space, pore space, ash content, organic matter, pH, and electrical conductivity were measured and data were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA). PCA scores revealed that physico-chemical properties changed by the blending of peatmoss, perlite, and vermiculite. The 20 root media were divided into three main groups by hierarchical cluster analysis. At the end of the experiment, the pH and EC of the root media were measured from media divided into four layers. The pH of root media without plants showed a strong linear relationship and the pH of root media with plants increased exponentially. The change of EC in the root medium was indicated as a hyperbolic curve. Plant growth characteristics according to growth in the 20 root media were analyzed by PCA. It was found that the mixing ratios of the root media affected plant growth characteristics. Therefore, mixing ratio is an important factor for pot-plant production in a subirrigation system.

강원지역 도시폐기물의 물리·화학적 특성 연구 (The Study of Physico-chemcal Characteristics of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in Gangwon Area)

  • 본 연구에서는 강원지역의 도시 생활 쓰레기의 성상 및 물리 화학적 조성을 연구하였다. 생활 쓰레기 자원화시설 설치 및 자료확보 차원, 매립장 관리차원에서 본 연구는 필요한 연구이다. 폐기물의 평균 밀도는 $101.8{\sim}199.8kg/m^3$ 범위내의 결과를 얻었다. 생활 쓰레기는 30.7%의 음식물류, 36.3% 의 종이류, 15.8%의 플라스틱 및 비닐류, 1.9%의 섬유류, 3.2%의 목재류 1.5%의 고무 및 가죽류 등으로 구성되어 있다. 생활쓰레기의 대부분은 음식물, 종이류, 플라스틱류 등으로 이루어져 있으며 90% 정도가 가연 성분이다. 삼성분 분석에서는 44.6%의 수분 및 47.4%의 가연분 그리고 7.7% 의 회분으로 이루어져 있었다. 원소분석결과는 탄소, 산소, 수소 순으로 많았다. 생활쓰레기의 저위 발열량은 2,631kcal/kg 이며 고위 발열량은 3,310 kcal/kg 이었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 서로다른 4지역의 도시 생활 쓰레기의 성상 및 물리 화학적 조성을 조사 하였다. 생활 쓰레기 연료화시설 설치 및 자료확보 차원 매립장 관리차원에서 매우 필요한 연구이다. 평균 밀도는 $79{\sim}199.8kg/m^3$ 범위내의 결과를 얻었다. 생활 쓰레기는 8.87%의 음식물류, 38.8%의 종이류, 34.12%의 플라스틱류 및 비닐류, 7.16%의 섬유류, 0.96%의 목재류 1.3%의 고무 및 가죽류 등으로 구성되어 있다. 생활쓰레기의 대부분은 음식물, 종이류, 플라스틱류 등으로 이루어져 있으며 94% 정도가 가연 성분이다. 삼성분 분석에서는 17.38%의 수분 및 69.03%의 가연분 그리고 6.24%의 회분으로 이루어져 있다. 원소분석결과는 탄소 산소 수소 순으로 이루어져 있다. 생활쓰레기의 저위 발열량은 2973.8kcal/kg 이며 고위 발열량은 5209.94 kcal/kg 결과를 얻었다.

서울 공원 토양의 탈수소효소 활성과 물리화학적 특성 (Dehydrogenase Activity and Physico-chemical Characteristics of Park Soils in Seoul)

  • The relationships between microbial activity and disturbance level of soil were investigated from 15 parks in Seoul and undisturbed area. The physico-chemical characteristics of soil and dehydrogenase activity(DHA) as an index of soil microbial activity were analysed. There were ranges of 3.84~7.37 in pH, 9.63~40.33% in moisture content, 3.41~21.49% in organic matter, 0.36~0.79g/g in water holding capacity and 0.03~0.53% in total nitrogen investigated sites. DHA values of soil were 8.64~$146.76{\mu}g/g$ in park soil and 545.14~$1, 198.80{\mu}g/g$ in undisurbed area. DHA of park soil with high traffic density and contamination source from human activities was much lower than that of undisturbed area. DHA was positively correlated with moisture content, organic matter, water holding capacity and total nitrogen.

호수의 계절별 수질 특성에 관한 연구 - 서산 지역을 중심으로 - (A Study on Seasonal Changes of Lakes Water Quality Characteristics -Based on experiments in the SEOSAN area-)

  • In this study, water quality characteristics of lakes in the Seosan area are analyzed. Components water quality were analysed at 10 sampled points in each lakes, and the results were evaluated for seasonal variation. It was found that water quality was over II~III class. Most of lakes in the Seosan area which implies that are suitable as the maintenance water. The concenturation of T-N, T-P was observed IV~V class during all seasons. Particularly, T-N concenturation peaks in spring, while was lowered in other seasons. In the lake, high concenturation of T-N, T-P bring about Eutrophication when algae was growth causing various physico-chemical changes in the water. It is suggested that the water quality management strategies need to be applied for each lake.

Regression Studies of Dry Weight of Planktonic Biomass on Physico-chemical Parameters of Ponds with Special Reference to Fertilization

  • The regression equations of dry weight of planktonic biomass upon physico-chemical characteristics of fifteen ponds in three replicates under the influence of artificial feed, broiler manure, buffalo manure, N:P:K (25:25:0) and a control pond was obtained after one year of experimental period by using stepwise regression method. Water samples from each of the ponds were analyzed daily. However, the average values were calculated on the basis of 15 day intervals designated as fortnight. In artificial feed supplemented pond the regression of average nitrates on dry weight of planktonic biomass accounted for 71.7% of the variation in biomass. In broiler manure fertilization pond the regression of total nitrogen on dry weight of planktonic biomass held it responsible for more than 74.6% of variation in biomass. In buffalo's manure fertilized pond more than 82% of the variations in biomass were due to total nitrogen. In case of N:P:K (25:25:0) treated pond 66% of the variation in the dry weight of planktonic biomass was due to average nitrates. The control pond showed the dependence of biomass on light penetration. This equation explained more than 62 percent of variation in biomass. Other variables also showed some contribution towards variation in biomass under all the treatments in these regression studies.

Differences in Health-related Fatty Acids, Intramuscular Fat and the Physico-chemical Quality in Mutton as Affected by Season, Place of Purchase and Meat Portion

  • The objective of the study was to determine the quality and fatty acid profiles of mutton cuts purchased from rural and urban localities in South Africa. Five hundred and ten samples were collected in four seasons from both rural and urban shops and butcheries. Samples were immediately transported to the laboratory in cooler boxes with ice where the following physico-chemical characteristics of mutton were determined; meat pH, color ($L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$), cooking losses and Warner Braztler shear force and replicates stored at $-20^{\circ}C$ pending fatty acid analysis. Meat $L^*$ values were lowest ($24.7{\pm}0.49$) in winter and highest ($32.2{\pm}0.49$) in spring. The loin and sirloin cuts recorded the highest intramuscular fat whilst rib and leg cuts recorded the lowest intramuscular fat. In conclusion intramuscular fat, fatty acid profiles and physico-chemical quality of mutton were significantly affected by season and meat portion and not necessarily by the locality and class of shop.

네 가지 조리 방법에 따른 양등심의 이화학적 및 관능적 특성 연구 (Sensory Characteristics and Physico-Chemical Change of the Loin of Lamb by Four Cooking Methods)

  • Physico-chemical analysis and sensory test of loin of lamb were carried out by four different methods such as grilling, pan-frying, oven-roasting and boiling. The crude fat content was all the same at three cooking methods except boiling. The moisture content was not different among grilling, pan-frying and oven-roasting. Hunter's color L-value(lightness) was lowest at grilling method. However, the heating loss appeared greatly at grilling. The hardness of the lamb-loin after cooking showed big differences with the control except boiling treatment. Amino acids in fillet contained highly in the order of glutamic acid > aspartic acid > cystein. The grilling showed a good value not only color of a sensory test but also the appearance. The oven-roasting cooking gave the tenderness and juiciness. The oven-roasting method showed good sensation to overall taste. Therefore, the oven-roasting (at $150^{\circ}C$ for 9 minutes) was suggested as the superior method when the loin of lamb is cooked for reducing off-flavour.

한약부산물과 쑥 분말 급여가 재래종 돈육의 이화학적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dietary Oriental Medicine Refuse and Mugwort Powder on Physico-Chemical Properties of Korean Native Pork)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of dietary oriental medicine refuse(OMR) and mugwort powder on physico-chemical characteristics of Korean Native Pork(KNP). KNP were randomly assigned to one of the three dietary treatments : 1) control (commercial feed) 2) T1 (commercial fed supplemented with 10% OMR powder) 3) T2 (commercial feed with 10% mugwort powder). 15 heads(♂) were feed one of the experimental diets for 5 months and slaughtered. In the proximate composition, moisture content showed slightly high in the T1, however, fat content were tended to be high in the control. The heating loss, shear value, WHC (water holding capacity) were not significantly between control and the treatments group. The T1 showed the lowest pH among treatments (P<0.05). In sensory evaluation, juiciness and tenderness of T1 and T2 were higher compared with that of control. Hunter a* did not show any difference among the treatments group. But Hunter L*, b* in treatment group(T1, T2) were higher than that of the control. Oleic acid, linoleic acid and unsaturated fatty acid contents of T1 and T2 were higher than the control. The total amino acid of the control, T1 and T2 were 18.290, 18.177 and 18.942mg%, respectively.
