Hygroscopic Characteristics of $TiO_{2-x}$ Thin Film Humidity Sensors by RF Magnetron Sputtering (고주파 마그네트론 스퍼터링에 의한 $TiO_{2-x}$ 박막 습도센서의 습도감지특성)

  • $TiO_{2-x}$ thin film humidity sensors have been fabricated by sputtering method and their physical and hygroscopic characteristics have been investigated. The sputtering conditions and sintering conditions affect the sensor's sensitivity toward humidity. AES and SEM micrographs were taken for the analysis of crystal structures, surface morphology caused by adsorbed water vapour. $TiO_{2-x}$ humidity sensors showed negative impedance-humidity characteristics and the sensor which was fabricated by experimental condition 2(rf power of 200W) showed higher sensitivity and linearity than others. Then the slope of the sensor was about $0.794\;K{\Omega}/%RH$ and the response time of $TiO_{2-x}$ humidity sensors was about 2 min. for adsorption and about 3 min. for desorption at the operating temperature of $30^{\circ}C$.

Regeneration of TS-1 Catalyst During Phenol Hydroxylation(Calcination temperature dependence) (페놀의 수산화 반응에 사용한 TS-1 촉매의 효과적인 재생 방법(소성 온도 의존성))

  • In this study, calcination temperature dependence of TS-1 catalyst was investigated in the hydroxylation of phenol with hydrogen peroxide during the regeneration of catalyst. Catalyst was regenerated 5 times by calcining at $550^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$, respectively. When the catalyst was regenerated at $550^{\circ}C$ after 5th regeneration phenol conversion was decreased from 22.9% to 15.1% and at $700^{\circ}C$ after 5th regeneration phenol conversion was decreased from 22.9% to 18.8%. For formation ratio of catechol/hydroquinone was increased from 1.28 to 1.45 after 5th regeneration at $550^{\circ}C$, and from 1.28 to 1.20 after 5th regeneration at $700^{\circ}C$. The main reasons for deactivation of the catalyst were suggested by analyzing chemical/physical properties with XRD, UV-vis spectra, $N_2$ adsorption/desorption and TGA, and evaluating the catalytic activity such as phenol conversion and product selectivity.

  • A polymer/iodine complex film was prepared using syndiotactic poly(vinyl alcohol) (s-PVA) with number-average degree of polymerization of 900 and syndiotactic diad content of 63.1%. In comparison with atactic-PVA/iodine films, degree of polarization of the s-PVA/iodine film was improved up to over 99% although a lower transmittance was obtained. By soaking in iodine/potassium iodide aqueous solution of a lower iodine concentration and subsequent drawing by 4 times, s-PVA/iodine film of a higher transmittance and degree of polarization was produced. The degree of iodine desorption of the s-PVA/iodine film in water were very low. The crystallinity and the d-spacing and crystal size of (100) plane increased at the early stage of soaking time, however, remained constant or decreased slightly with increasing soaking time. In consequence, s-PVA/iodine complex formation took place mainly inside crystal region at the initial stage of soaking time, whereas it occurred outside crystal region or physical adsorption of iodine dominated after sufficient soaking.

  • Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) is a microbial storage polymer with biodegradable properties. In order to improve the cell compatibility of PHBV surfaces, the physicochemical treatments have been demonstrated. In this study, physical method was corona discharge treatment and chemical method was chloric acid mixture solution treatment. The physicochemically treated PHBV film surfaces were characterized by the measurement of water contact angle, electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The water contact angle of the physicochemically treated PHBV surfaces decreased from 75 to 30~40 degree, increased hydrophilicity. due to the introduction of oxygen-based functional group onto the PHBV backbone chain. The mouse NIH/3T3 fibroblasts cultured onto the physicochemically treated PHBV film surfaces with different wettability. The effect of the PHBV surface with different wettability was determined by SEM as counts of cell number and [$^3$H]thymidine incorporation as measures of cell proliferation. As the surface wettability increased, the number of the cell adhered and proliferated on the surface was increased. The result seems closely related with the serum protein adsorption on the physicochemically treated PHBV surface. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the surface wettabilily of biodegradable polymer as the PHBV plays an important role for cell adhesion and proliferation behavior for biomedical application.

Absorption Characteristics of Soybean curd Powder by Drying Methods (건조방법에 따른 건조분말두부의 흡습특성)

  • The absorption characteristics and their physical properties of hot air, vacuum and freeze dried soybean curd powder were investigated. Absorption conditions were at 5, 15, and 25 t with $0.11\~0.93$ water activities. Equilibrium moisture content and the monolayer moisture content determined by prediction models showed highest value in the freeze dried soybean curd powder due to porous structure. Absorption energy decreased with increasing water activity was not affected by drying method. In the comparisons of the isothermal absorption models, Oswin model generally was the best fit model for isothermal adsorption of soybean curd powder.

  • 1. Introduction : The conventional grafting polymerization technique requires chemically reactive groups on the surface as well as on the polymer chains. For this reason, a series of prefunctionalization steps are necessary for covalent grafting. The surface prefunctionalizational technique for grafting can be used to ionization radiation, UV, plasma, ion beam or chemical initiators. Of these techniques, radiation method is one of the useful methods because of uniform and rapid creation of active radical sites without catalytic contamination in grafted samples. If the diffusion of monomer into polymer is large enough to come to the inside of polymer substrate, a homogeneous and uniform grafting reaction can be carried out throughout the whole polymer substrate. Radiation-induced grafting method may attach specific functional moieties to a polymeric substrate, such as preirradiation and simultaneous irradiation. The former is irradiated at backbone polymer in vacuum or nitrogen gas and air, and then subsequent monomer grafting by trapped or peroxy radicals, while the latter is irradiated at backbone polymer in the presence of the monomer. Therefore, radiation-induced polymerization can be used to modification of the chemical and physical properties of the polymeric materials and has attracted considerable interest because it imparts desirable properties such as blood compatibility. membrane quality, ion excahnge, dyeability, protein adsorption, and immobilization of bioactive materials. Synthesizing biocompatible materials by radiation method such as preirradiation or simultaneous irradiation has often used $\gamma$-rays to graft hydrophilic monomers onto hydrophobic polymer substrates. In this work, in attempt to produce surfaces that show low levels of anti-fouling of bovine serum albumin(BSA) solutions, hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) was grafted polypropylene membrane surfaces by preirradiation technique. The anti-fouling effect of the polypropylene membrane after grafting was examined by permeation BSA solution.

  • In order to increase biological activities of Co~nebacteriumpseudodipI~t~~eriticum W3712 which degrades achemical softener (organopolysiloxane), the cells were immobilized on four immobilizing carriers by physicaladsorption. The cells immobilized on bentonite had higher removal efficiency than those immobilized onthe other carriers, and physical adsorption of organopolysiloxane on bentonite was 62.5%. The immobilizedcells were produced by 16 ml of culture broth with 20 g of bentonite, and 100 ml of the standard wastewatercontaining 12.000 mgll COD," with organopolysiloxane was removed 95.0% by 10.0 g of the immobilizedcells treatment at room temperature for 10 days by static culture.y static culture.

  • Influences of crystallization time and $H_2O/Al_2O_3$ ratio of the reaction mixtures on the synthesis of AlPO$_4$-5 molecular sieve have been studied by X-ray powder diffraction, nitrogen adsorption, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and solid state $^{27}$Al magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) techniques. The degree of crystallinity of AlPO$_4$-5 follows a sigmoid pattem as crystallization time increases. The induction period is shorter than 1 h when the crystallization process is carried out at 150$^{\circ}$C. The conversion of reactants to product, AlPO$_4$-5, can be clearly observed, and all of the determined physical properties change abruptly after about 2 h. It is found that increase in $H_2O/Al_2O_3$ ratio of the reaction mixtures not only changes the crystal morphology from aggregates to hexagonal single crystals, but also results in the formation of longer AlPO$_4$-5 crystals.

$DeNO_{x}$ Performance of Activated Carbon Catalysts Regenerated by Surfactant Solution (계면활성제 수용액에 의해 재생된 활성탄 촉매의 탈질 성능)

  • Activated carbon SCR(CSCR) catalyst that is used to remove $NO_x$ in exhaust gas including boron discharged from the production process of liquid crystal display(LCD) shows deactivation when boron is deposited to block the pores within the catalyst or to cover its active sites. The spent carbon catalyst is regenerated by washing with various surfactants, drying and calcination. For comparison of the physical and chemical properties before and after the regeneration with the variables, type of surfactants and calcination condition, element analysis by ICP, $N_{2}$ adsorption were conducted. $DeNO_{x}$ in SCR with $NH_3$ was carried out in a fixed bed reactor at $120^{\circ}C$. The activated carbon catalyst regenerated through washing with a non-ionic surfactant in $H_{2}O$ at $90^{\circ}C$ and calcination under $N_{2}$ gas at $550^{\circ}C$ shows similar level of surface area and $NO_x$ removal efficiency with those of fresh catalyst.

  • A Fe-containing mesoporous silica (Fe-MCM-41) in which part of Si in the framework was replaced by Fe(Si-O-Fe) has been successfully prepared using $Fe^{3+}$ salt by a direct synthesis route. Physical properties of the material were characterized by XRD, $N_2$ adsorption, SEM/TEM, UV-vis and FT-IR spectroscopies. Fe-MCM-41 exhibited high catalytic activity in phenol hydroxylation using $H_2O_2$ as oxidant, giving phenol conversion of ca. 60% at $50^{\circ}C$ [phenol : $H_2O_2$ = 1:1, water solvent]. Fe-MCM-41 was also applied to the growth of CNTs, utilizing a thermal-CVD reactor using acetylene gas, which demonstrated that multi-wall CNTs could be prepared efficiently using the Fe-MCM-41 catalyst.
