  • The NO$_2$ gas-deteotion characteristics were investigated using the functional organic Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) files of Dilithium phthalocyanines(Li$_2$Pc). The optimum conditions for a film deposition were obtained through a study of $\pi$-A isotherms, and the deposited film status was confirmed by the ellipsometry measurements. A propel number of layers for the gas-detection was proved to be 9 layers from a measurement of a measurement of change in the electrical conductivities when the films were exposed to the 200 ppm of the NO$_2$ gases. A response time, recovery time, and reproducibility were also studied. A proper temperature which was able to activate gas interaction between NO$_2$ gases and Li$_2$Pc LB films was around 150$^{\circ}C$ judging from the electrical conductivities in a temperature range of 20 to 200$^{\circ}C$. It was found that at 150\ulcorner there are increments of electrical conductivities by 65 tines, 30 seconds of response time and 60 seconds of recovery tine when the filmswere exposed to the gasses.

  • Carbon nanofibers have synthesized a low temperature using DC Ar plasma and Fe-Phthalocyanine, and a characteristic difference of the synthesized CNF according to the location of the substrate was investigated. The carbon nanofibers had about 100nm diameter and up to $10{\mu}m$ length. These were grown in random orientation. There are two shapes in the CNFs, screw and straight line shapes. Furthermore, we found the selective growth of nanofibers on the scratched substrates. The density of CNFs synthesized on the position (a) were higher than that synthesized on the position (b) [See the Fig. 2]. Also, the length of CNFs was different. In the shape, CNFs with screw and straight line shape were synthesized in the position (a), but. only CNFs with straight line shape were synthesized in the position (b). The difference have an important effect on the field emission characteristics.

  • We studied the nonequilibrium superconductivity due to tunnel injection of polaronic quasiparticle (QP) from organic photoconductor. The transport properties of an organic copper (II) phthalocyanine (Cu -Pc)/d-wave superconductor were investigated in dark and under ultraviolet (UV) radiation for performance of a novel $high -T_{c}$ superconducting three terminal device. We observed that the injection of polaronic QP from the organic Cu -Pc film into the $Bi_2$S $r_2$$CaCuO_{8+{\delta}}$ film generated a substantially larger nonequilibrium effect as compared to the normal QP injection current. We could increase the current gain by UV excitation of the organic photoconductor injector. The tunneling spectroscopy of a Cu -Pc/BSCCO junction exhibited a small enhancement of the zero bias conductance peak under the W excitation. The above phenomena are of importance in developing optically controlled three terminal superconducting device.e.

  • Optimal preparation guidelines of a cathode catalyst layer by non-precious metal catalysts were evaluated based on electrochemical performance in single-chamber microbial fuel cells (MFCs). Experiments for catalyst loading rate revealed that iron(II) phthalocyanine (FePc) can be a promising alternative, comparable to platinum (Pt) and cobalt tetramethoxyphenylporphyrin (CoTMPP), including effects of substrate concentration. Results showed that using an optimal FePc loading of $1mg/cm^2$ was equivalent to a Pt loading of $0.35mg/cm^2$ on the basis of maximum power density. Given higher loading rates or substrate concentrations, FePc proved to be a better alternative for Pt than CoTMPP. Under the optimal loading rate, it was further revealed that 40 wt% of FePc to carbon support allowed for the best power generation. These results suggest that proper control of the non-precious metal catalyst layer and substrate concentration are highly interrelated, and reveal how those combinations promote the economic power generation of single-chamber MFCs.

  • The surface structures of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) thin films deposited on sulphur-passivated and plane perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA)-covered InAs(100) surfaces have been studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and van der Waals (vdW) intermolecular interaction energy calculations. The annealing to $300^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$ of $(NH_4)_2S_x$-treated InAs(100) substrates produces a ($1{\times}1$) and ($2{\times}1$) S-passivated surface respectively. The CuPc deposition onto the PTCDA-covered InAs(100) surface leads to a ring-like diffraction pattern, indicating that the 2D ordered overlayer exists and the structure is dominantly determined by the intermolecular interactions rather than substrate-molecule interactions. However, no ordered LEED patterns were observed for the CuPc on S-passivated InAs(100) surface. The intermolecular interaction energy calculations have been carried out to rationalise this structural difference. In the case of CuPc unit cells on PTCDA layer, the planar layered CuPc structure is more stable than the $\alpha$-herringbone structure, consistent with the experimental LEED results. For CuPc unit cells on a S-($1{\times}1$) layer, however, the $\alpha$-herringbone structure is more stable than the planar layered structure, consistent with the absence of diffraction pattern. The results show that the lattice structure during the initial stages of thin film growth is influenced strongly by the intermolecular interactions at the interface.

  • It has been a long time since organic solar cells were expected as a low-cost energy-conversion device. Although practical use of them has not been achieved, technological progress continues. Morphology of the materials, organic/inorganic interface, metal cathodes, molecular packing and structural properties of the donor and acceptor layers are essential for photovoltaic response. We have fabricated solar cell devices based on zinc-phthalocyanine(ZnPc) as donor(D) and fullerene$(C_60)$ as electron acceptor(A) with doped charge transport layers, and BCP and $Alq_3$ as an exciton blocking layer(EBL). We have measured the photovoltaic characteristics of the solar cell devices using the Xe lamp as a light source. We were use of $Alq_3$ layer leads to external power conversion efficiency was $2.65\%$ at illumination intensity $100\;mW/cm^2$. Also we confirmed the optimum thickness ratio of the DA hetero-junction is about 1:2.

  • Vacuum deposited copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) was placed as a thin interlayer between indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode and a hole transporting layer (HTL) in a multi-layered, organic, light-emitting diode (OLEOs). The well-stacked CuPc layer increased the stability and efficiency of the devices. Thermal annealing after CuPc deposition and magnetic field treatment during CuPc deposition were performed to obtain a stacked-CuPc layer; the former increased the stacking density of the CuPc molecules and the alignment of the CuPc film. Thermal annealing at about 100$^{circ}C$ increased the current flow through the CuPc layer by over 25$\%$. Surface roughness decreased from 4.12 to 3.65 nm and spikes were lowered at the film surface as well. However, magnetic field treatment during deposition was less effective than thermal treatment. Eventually, a higher luminescence at a given voltage was obtained when a thermally-annealed CuPc layer was placed in the present, multi-layered, ITO/CuPc/NPD/Alq3/LiF/AI devices. Thermal annealing at about 100$^{circ}C$ for 3 h produced the most efficient, multi-layered EL devices in the present study.
