In this paper, a multi-agent control system for DC-coupled photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), ultracapacitor(UC) and battery hybrid power system is studied for commercial buildings & apartment buildings microgrid. In this proposed system, the PV system provides electric energy to the electrolyzer to produce hydrogen for future use and transfer to the load side, if possible. Whenever the PV system cannot completely meet load demands, the FC system provides power to meet the remaining load. A multi-agent system based-power management and control algorithm is proposed for the hybrid power system by taking into account the characteristics of each power source. The main works of this paper are hybridization of alternate energy sources with FC systems using long and short storage strategies to build the multi-agent control system with pragmatic design, and a dynamic model proposed for a PV/FC/UC/battery bank hybrid power generation system. A dynamic simulation model for the hybrid power system has been developed using Matlab/Simulink, SimPowerSystems and Stateflow. Simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-agent control and management system for building microgrid.
The small-scaled onsite generators such as photovoltaic power, wind power, biomass and fuel cell belong to decarbonization techniques. In general, these generators tend to be connected to utility systems, and they are called distributed generations (DGs) compared with conventional centralized power plants. However, DGs may impact on stabilization of utility systems, which gets utility into trouble. In order to reduce utility's burdens (e.g., investment for facilities reinforcement) and accelerate DG introduction, the advanced operation algorithms under the existing utility systems are urgently needed. This paper presents the advanced voltage regulation method in power systems since the sending voltage of voltage regulators has been played a decisive role restricting maximum installable DG capacity (MaxC_DG). For the proposed voltage regulation method, the difference from existing voltage regulation method is explained and the detailed concept is introduced in this paper. MaxC_DG estimation through case studies based on Korean model network verifies the superiority of the proposed method.

The renewable energy systems have been in the spotlight as an alternative for environmental issues. Therefore, the governmental policies are being implemented to spread of promote power generation system using renewable energy in various countries around the world. In addition, Korea has also developed a policy called the power trading contract which can profit from electricity produced from renewable power generation system through Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Korea Power Exchange (KPX). As a result, the power trading contracts can trade power after self-consuming in-house by using small-scale renewable power system for residential customers as well as electricity retailers. The power trading contracts applicable as a small-scale power system have a 'Net metering (NM)' and a 'Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)', and these two types of power trading contracts trade surplus power, but payment method of each power trading is different. The microgrid proposed in this paper is based on grid connected microgrid using Photovoltaic (PV) system and Energy Storage System (ESS), that supplied power to residential demand, we evaluate the operation cost of microgrid by power demand in each power trading contracts and propose the appropriate power trading contracts according to electricity demand.
Purpose The recent concern over environmental problems such as greenhouse gas emission and fine dust contributes increasing interest in renewable energies. However the intrinsic characteristics of renewable energies, intermittent and stochastic generation, might cause serious problems to the stability and controllability of power grid. Therefore countermeasures such as virtual power plant (VPP) must be prepared in advance of the spread of uncontrollable distributed renewable energy resources to be one of major energy sources. Design/methodology/approach This study deals with the design concept of the VPP platform. we proposed as a technology solution for achieving the stability of power grid by guaranteeing a single power profile combining multiple distributed power sources with ICT. The core characteristics of VPP should be able to participate in the grid operation by responding to operation instructions from the system operator, KPX, as well as the wholesale electricity market. Findings Therefore this study includes energy storage device(ESS) as a controllable component as well as renewable energy resources such as photovoltaic and wind power generation. Based on this configuration, we discussed core element technologies of VPP and protype design of VPP solution platform according to system requirements. In the proposed solution platform, UX design for the integrated control center and brokerage system were included as well as ancillary service function to respond to KPX's operation instruction with utilizing the capability of ESS. In addition, a simulator was suggested to verify the VPP operations.

Recently, with the increasement of the interest about global warming, pollutions, and so on, a number of distributed generations(DGs) such as photovoltaic(PV) and wind power(WP), are interconnected with distribution systems. However, installing of DGs makes power flow changes such as directions, one-direction to bi-direction, and increasing/decreasing of fault current. Therefore, it may cause the critical problems. This paper proposes an evaluation algorithm for bi-directional protection coordination and presents an evaluation system for protection coordination based on this algorithm. Additionally, the result shows that the existing method may cause critical problems, and also the effectiveness of proposed method is verified.
The purpose of this study is to design the algorithm, Predictive Service Component - PSC, for forecasting and judging obsolescence of solar system that is implemented based on the micro-inverter. PSC proposed in this study is suitable for monitoring of distributed power generation systems. It provides a diagnosis functionality to detect failures and anomaly events. It also can determine the aging of PV systems. The conclusion of this study shows the research and development of this kind of integrated system using PSC will be needed more and varied in the near future.
This paper presents a new software-based on-line dead-time compensation technique for single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverter system. To improve the mitigation of dead-time effect around the zero-crossing point of phase current, a selective harmonic elimination of instantaneous feedback current is used as an additional part of conventional current control scheme. Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the effectiveness of proposed compensation method in the grid-connected power distributed generation systems.

DC microgrid system is attracted attention in the world, because DC distribution system is more energy efficient than AC distribution system. To analyse the contribution effects of distributed generation(DG) in LVDC distribution system through modeling the Rectifier, DC/DC converter, Energy Storage System(ESS) and Photovoltaic(PV). using PSCAD/EMTDC. This paper analyses fault response characteristics in LVDC distribution system according to the interconnection and islanding operation of DG. Based on research results on the paper, direction for development of fault current reduction method for LVDC distribution system is suggested.

This paper presents an advanced modeling and simulation technique applied to DC/DC power electronic converters fed through renewable energy power sources. The distributed generation (DG) system at the Illinois Institute of Technology, which employs a phase-l system consisting of a photovoltaic-based power system and a phase-2 system consisting of a fuel cell based primary power source, is studied. The modeling and simulation of the DG system is done using the generalized state space averaging (GSSA) method. Furthermore, the paper compares the results achieved upon simulation of the specific GSSA models with those of popular computer aided design software simulations performed on the same system. Finally, the GSSA and CAD software simulation results are accompanied with test results achieved via experimentation on both, the PV-based phase-l system and the fuel cell based phase-2 power system.

The market for distributed power generation based on renewable energy is increasing, particularly for standalone mini-grid applications in developing countries with limited energy resources. Stand-alone power systems (SAPS) are of special interest combined with renewable energy design in areas not connected to the electric grid. Traditionally, such systems have been powered by diesel engine generator sets (DEGS), but also hybrid systems with photovoltaic and/or wind energy conversion systems (WECS) are becoming quite common nowadays. Hybrid energy systems can now be used to generate energy consumed in remote areas and stand-alone microgrids. This paper describes the design, simulation and feasibility study of a hybrid energy system for a stand-alone power system. A simulated model is developed to investigate the design and performance of stand-alone hydrogen renewable energy systems. The analysis presented here is based on transient system simulation program (TRNSYS) with realistic ventilation load of a large store. Design of a hybrid energy system is site specific and depends on the resources available and the load demand.
