Poly(1-dodecyl-2,5-pyrrylene vinylene) (PDPV) has an extended 1t-conjugated structure and exhibits characteristic spectroscopic features. The PDPV we prepared has an absorption maximum at 510nm and its long absorption tail at ca. 750nm in methylene chloride is due to the long 1t-conjugated system connected to vinyl group. The large red-shift of emission was 625nm upon excitation at 480nm, which suggests the existence of a low emissive state. The emission of PDPV in less-polar solvents decreased markedly relative to that in the more-polar solvents; this observation was ascribed possibly to quenching by a strong vibrational mode of the dodecyl groups of PDPV in less-polar solvents. Furthermore, the emission from the high-energy side had a single decay component (0.1㎱, 49.96%), while that from the low-energy side had two components (0.6㎱, 27.1 %; 2.7㎱, 22.87%). We characterized the redox properties of PDPV by cyclic voltammetry. Every redox peak showed irreversible behavior; the oxidation peaks appeared at 1.7,0.8, and 0.6V and the reduction peak at -0.5V.
Rhodamine chromophore/fluorophore have been attracted to many researchers due to its excellent photophysical properties. In this study, we have designed and synthesized a strong emissive fluorescent dye chemosensor for toxic elements. A rhodamine-based sensor was prepared by incorporation the rhodamine fluorophore and several functional host groups with high affinity to hazardous metal and anion. This sensor shows a high selectivity and an excellent sensitivity and is a dual-responsive colorimetric and fluorescent metal/anion-specific sensor. In addition, the 1:1 binding mode was proposed based on Job's plot method. Finally, computational calculation was simulated and calculated to approach for HOMO/LUMO of this dye chemosensor.
A series of novel fused-ring spiro compounds, spiro[benzo[ij]tetraphene-7,9'-fluorene] (SBTF) derivatives containing an end-capping aryl substituent at both the C3 and C10-positions hasbeen designed and synthesized via multi-step Suzuki coupling reactions. 3-(1-Naphthyl)-10-phenylSBTF (1N-PSBTF), 3-(2-naphthyl)-10-phenylSBTF (2N-PSBTF) and 3-[4-(1-naphthyl)phenyl]-10-phenylSBTF (NP-PSBTF) showed improved glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) with good thermal stability. Their photophysical, electrochemical, and electroluminescent properties were investigated and were used to construct blue organic light emission diodes (OLEDs). The typical OLED devices showed excellent performance; the NP-PSBTF-based device exhibited highly efficient deep blue-light emission with a maximum efficiency of 5.27 cd/A (EQE, 4.63%) with CIE (x = 0.133, y = 0.144). According to these characteristics, these deep-blue light emitting materials have sufficient potential for fluorescent OLED applications.
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have received considerable attention as the most promising candidates for renewable energy systems in recent years. Among these, organic dyes which have many advantages such as large absorption coefficients, customized molecular design for desired photophysical and photochemical properties, inexpensiveness and environment-friendliness, are suitable as photosensitizers for DSSCs. We have studied on the design and synthesis of two organic dyes (BECZ 1 and BECZ 2) with a 9-ethyl-9H-carbazole core for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Two organic dyes comprised of two 9-ethyl-9H-carbazole moiety as electron-donor, two types of cyanoacrylic acid moiety acting as acceptor. In addition, n-ethyl unit introduced for increasing the solubility and the donating power. The obtained organic dyes were comprehensively characterized by NMR, GC-MS, FAB-MS and UV/Vis spectroscopies. DSSCs sensitized by the dyes BECZ1 and BECZ2 produced ${\eta}$ value 3.31% and a ${\eta}$ value 3.21%.
Two series of new organic fluorophores such as asymmetrical 3-(benzimidazol-2-yl)-10-hexylphenothiazine derivatives 1 and symmetrical 3,7-bis(benzimidazol-2-yl)-10-hexylphenothiazine derivatives 2 have been synthesized. Electronic absorption, fluorescence, and electrochemistry measurements reveal that the electron withdrawing benzimidazole subunit directly connected to the phenothiazine core facilitates the charge transfer characters which were also verified by the theoretical calculations. Various substituents on the benzimidazole moieties can allow a fine-tuning of the LUMO energy levels of the molecules without significantly affecting the HOMO energy levels. The method provides a new route for designing ambipolar molecules whose energy levels are well-matched with the Fermi levels of the electrodes to facilitate the electron or hole injection/transfer in OLED devices.
Photophysical properties of a newly-synthesized porphyrin derivative, trans-bis(ferrocene carboxylato)- (5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinato)tin(IV) [Sn(TPP)(FcCOO)2] were investigated by means of steady-state and fs-time resolved laser spectroscopic techniques, and compared with those of a standard molecule, trans-dichloro( 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-porphrinato)tin(IV) [Sn(TPP)Cl2]. The fluorescence spectrum of Sn(TPP)- (FcCOO)2 was observed to exhibit dual emission bands originating from the S2-state and the S1-state, which was greatly quenched as compared to those of Sn(TPP)Cl2. The fs-time resolved fluorescence and transient absorption spectroscopic measurements revealed that the fluorescence quenching is due to formation of the long-lived charge transfer state by intramolecular electron transfer from ferrocene to the S2-excited SnTPP in addition to the enhanced non-radiative deactivation processes.
Hyperbranched conjugated polymers (p-HPPV and m-HPPV) with para and meta linkages were synthesized from $A_2$ and $B_4$ type monomers through Wittig polycondensation. The synthesized p-HPPV and m-HPPV were completely soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, 1,2-dichloroethane, etc. and thermal gravimetric analyses showed that p-HPPV and m-HPPV are stable up to $350^{\circ}C$. The molecular weights (from GPC), UV-visible, and photoluminescence maximum peaks of p-HPPV and m-HPPV are characterized in detail. The fabricated EL devices using the synthesized hyperbranched polymers, (ITO/(p-HPPV or m-HPPV)/Al), showed EL emission at about 507 nm and 481 nm (681 nm), respectively. Especially, EL device from m-HPPV were found to exhibit nearly white emission with approximate CIE coordinates of (0.31, 0.34) compared with (0.310, 0.316) of NTSC white color at $100\;cd/m^2$. The good photophysical properties combine with good film-form ability could make these hyperbranched polymers to be a potential candidate for the EL materials.
The solvent change and salt do not affect the fluorescence quantum yield of 1,3-dimethylnaphtho[1,2-e]uracil indicating the considerable energy gap between the lowest singlet $({\pi},\;{\pi}^{\ast})\;and\;(n,\;{\pi}^{\ast})$ states in the compound. The results are consistent with the strong quenching of fluorescence by ethyl iodide. Fluorescence quantum yield is nearly independent of temperature, probably due to the relatively inefficient internal conversion. Unusual spectral difference is observed in isopentane and ethanol at 77K. The temperature dependence of emission in isopentane and in ethanol suggests that the increase of charge transfer character by the conformational change in isopentane leads to the structureless and red-shifted fluorescence, while in ethanol the decrease of the charge transfer character by the hydrogen bonding interaction results in the structured and blue-shifted fluorescence along with phosphorescence at the low temperature. Temperature dependence of emission in poly(methylmethacrylate) matrix indicates that $T_1{\to}S_0$ radiationless decay is an important process responsible for the strong temperature dependence of phosphorescence.
The coupling reaction between 5-bromo-3-phenylbenzo[c]isoxazole and diphenylamine followed by further condensation with a mono-, di- or ter-acetyl aromatic compound in the presence of diphenyl phosphate at $145^{\circ}C$ gave a novel asymmetric diarylquinolines, oligoquinolines with diphenylamine endgroups, and a first generation quinoline dendrimer in 41-82% isolated yield. The electrochemical and photophysical properties of the oligoquinolines were characterized by cyclic voltammograms (CVs) and spectroscopy. All the quinolines emit bright sky blue light due to charge transfer from quinoline group to diphenly amine with very high quantum efficiency (> 90%). Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) were fabricated using these quinolines as emitting materials. Among different device architectures explored, OLEDs with a structure of ITO/PEDOT (40 nm)/TAPC (15 nm)/D-A quinoline (40 nm)/TPBI (30 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al using TAPC as an electron blocking layer and TPBI as a hole blocking layer gave the best performance. A high external quantum efficiency in the range of 1.2-2.3% were achieved in all the quinolines with the best performance in BBQA(5). Our results indicate diarylamino-substituted oligoquinoline and dendrimer are promising materials for OLEDs applications.
