The photographic characteristics have been studied in relation with various molecular weights of Polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP). The shape of silver halogen crystals by physical ripening of mixture of photographic gelatine and various molecular weights of PVP were observed. Then, the photographic characteristics have been studied by chemical ripening. Results were concluded as follows: 1. All of the crystals have formed in the shape of (100) or (111). 2. Photographic characteristics were inferior by using PVP of higher molecular weight. 3. Photographic characteristics were superior by using PVP of lower molecular weight. 4. Photographic characteristic were compared with various Emulsion thickness and Tested Resolving power.

This article presents a study on the concept of "Photogenie", which refers to the duality and mentality of the photographic image, with the viewpoint regarding the photographic image by Edgar Morin. First, we will look at the evolution of the concept of "Photogenie". From the field of photography, the term "Photogenie" means objects that produce light, enough to impress the photographic plate. But theorists of cinema at the beginning of the 20th century have changed the meaning of the term. For Louis Delluc, the "Photogenie" means the effect of union between the reproduction of real and artistic genius. For Jean Epstein, the "Photogenie" means mental quality, nonmaterial or inderterminable, of the photographic and cinematographic image. But Morin synthesized the arguements of Delluc and Epstein. For him, the "Photogenie" indicates both a double character of the photographic image and its mental quality. Then, based on this concept of "Photogenie," Morin said on particular aspects in the photographic image. Considering photography as a double in the anthropological sense, it puts emphasis not only the dual nature of the photographic image but also mental and spiritual quality. Combining the theory of the mage Henri Bergson and Jean-Paul Sartre, he builds his own theory of the mage that concerns both photography and cinema. In short, to Morin, the photographic image is a place where coexist absence and presence, the real and the imaginary, perception and memory, the material and mental, as well that a place of mentality which appear all our memories, hallucinations, dreams, imagination etc.

In this paper, we describe a study on the relationship between spectral sensitization and photographic characteristics of color paper. The photographic emulsion used in this study is a green-sensitizing emulsion. U.V maximum absorption peak value of 9-phenyl-5,5'-diphenyl-3,3'-bis(3-sulfopropyl)benzoxazolo carbocyanine triethyl ammonium salt was observed 507nm, and wedge spectrograms maximum peak value of color paper added dye to photographic emulsion was shown 553nm. As compared with the absorption peak of the dye in methanol solution, the sensitizing peaks of 9-phenyl-5,5'-diphenyl-3,3'-bis(3-sulfopropyl)benzoxazolo carbocyanine triethyl ammonium salt have red shifts of 46nm. The photographic characteristics of green-sensitizing emulsion were obtained contrast(2.6), speed(48-57), fog(0.08). Therefore, benzoxazolo carbocyanine dye is of industrial importance as green-sensitizing dye in the spectral sensitization of photographic emulsion.

The polyoxyethylene compounds were added into the photographic emulsion during the physical ripening of photo sensitive silver halide crystal in this emulsion. The polyoxyethylene compounds improved the photographic properties of the film to a great extent increasing the photo sensitivity and decreasing the fog density.

The purpose of this study was to classify side somatotypes of the trunk by analysing photographic data. Then their distribution according to the age groups was studied. The subjects were 315 females of 18 to 49 year-old. Thirty one photographic measurements were taken to each subject. The factors affecting the side somatotype of the trunk were obtained by principal component analysis, vertical size, posterior/anterior depth and neck posture. The side somatotypes of the trunk were classified into 4 types and their differences were shown by analysing photographic data. The side silhouettes of 4 types were compared with balanced type. By suggesting the canonical discriminant function with the unstandardized canonical coefficient, individual somatotype of the trunk could be discriminated from the photographic data of anterior neck height, anterior waist height, posterior waist depth, buttock height, and anterior depth at the level of back protrusion. The frequency distribution of the side somatotypes of the trunk according to the age groups could be applied for clothing construction and the rate of clothing production.

This article explores the photographic work of North American artist Jeff Wall. While his photographic work has been much discussed in terms of aesthetics and composition highlighting his methodological appropriation of modernist painters such as Eduard Manet and Piet Mondrian, the political aspect of his work remains to be investigated. This article especially unpacks the complicated dialectical relationship between the formal aesthetics and the political nature of his works by visiting his photographic work in the context of contemporary debates on the contradiction and conflicts between aesthetics and politics in photographic form. Ultimately, this article argues that Wall's photograph acquires its political meaning by problematizing the reified social representation of the other in a way in which the materiality and/or otherness of the photographic object is registered within the photographic frame and by representing the violence of the social representation and the un-representability of the object/other.

사진기록물은 이용자가 이해하기 쉽다는 관점에서 매우 유용하고 의미 있는 기록물이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 높은 비용과 관리의 어려움으로 인하여 상대적으로 인쇄기록물에 비교하여 디지털화가 수행된 사례가 매우 적다. 본 연구의 목적은 기존의 아날로그 사진기록물의 디지털화를 위한 개선방안 및 고려사항을 제시하는 것이다. 이와 같은 목적을 위하여 본 연구에서는 16개의 광역자치단체의 사진기록물 관리현황을 분석하였다. 또한, J광역자치단체에서 사진기록물의 디지털화와 디지털화된 사진기록물 데이터베이스 구축에 대한 사례조사를 수행하였다. 이러한 분석결과를 기반으로 사진기록물의 디지털화 및 디지털화 사진기록물에 대한 방법을 제안하였다.

본 연구에서는 민주화운동 관련 사진들을 기반으로 한 사진 디지털아카이브 구축 프로세스를 분석하였다. 사진 디지털아카이브를 디지털 객체를 대상으로 수집, 분류, 기술, 저장, 활용시키는 통합적 시스템으로 규정한 후, 사진의 고유성을 반영한 메타데이터의 도출 및 분류체계 수립 사례를 제시하였다. 특히 사진 디지털아카이브의 분류체계 수립 시, 기존의 기본분류체계 외에 다양한 검색어를 활용한 다원분류체계를 설계함으로써, 문자화된 의미전달이 부재한 사진들 간의 통합성 및 상호연계성을 창출시켜 활용성을 극대화시킬 수 있는 방안을 제시하고자 하였다.
