효모를 이용한 발효영지 추출물이 흰쥐의 유영 운동 피로에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Yeast Fermented Ganoderma Lucidum Extract on the Recovery of Exercise Fatigue in Forced Swimming Rats)

  • Objectives : Ganoderma Lucidum has been used in traditional oriental medicine to treat various conditions including chronic fatigue and cough. This experimental study was designed to investigate the effects of yeast-fermented Ganoderma Lucidum extract on the fatigue of rats elicited by forced swimming. Materials and methods : The rat subjects were divided into 4 groups: normal group, control group administered with 0.9% normal saline, experimental I(Exp I) group administered with yeast-fermented Ganoderma lucidum extract and experimental II(Exp II) group administered with Ganoderma lucidum extract for 4 weeks. All the serum samples collected by heart puncture were used to measure biochemical factors such as glucose, lactate, lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), creatine kinase(CK), inorganic phosphorus, ammonia, total cholesterol(TC), triglycerides(TG), high-density lipoprotein(HDL), low-density lipoprotein(LDL), aspartate transaminase(AST), alanine transaminase(ALT). Results : 1. Weight change and swimming time were not significantly different in the experimental groups as compared with control group. 2. Lactate was significantly decreased in the experimental groups as compared with control group. Inorganic phosphorus was also significantly decreased in the Exp I group as compared with control group(p<0.05). 3. Serum lipid concentration was not significantly different in the experimental groups as compared with control group. 4. AST and ALT were significantly decrease in the experimental groups as compared with control group. Conclusions : Yeast-fermented Ganoderma lucidum in forced swimming rats would appear to reduce fatigue-related factors, AST, ALT of serum and promote anti-fatigue effect.

뽕밭 밑 묘포의 홍수 피해 조사 보고 (Flood Damage and Recovery of Mulberry and Graftages)

  • 홍수로 침·관수되었던 뽕밭 밑 묘포의 피해 정도를 구명하기 위하여 1987년 7월 21일경 2-5일간 침·관수되었던 충남 부여군의 묘포 3필지와 뽕밭 1필지를 조사하는 한편, 침수 뽕밭에 금비를 추비하고 수량을 조사한 결과 다음과 같았다. 1. 2일 동안 침관수만 되었던 묘목은 침수부위의 잎은 삭은 채 살았으며, 5일동안 관수되었던 것 중 가지 끝이 나와 있던 것은 살았으나, 완전히 잠겨 있었던 것은 죽었다. 2. 뽕나무는 흐르는 물에 5일까지 침수되어도 가지 끝만 나와 있으면 피해가 없었다. 3. 뽕밭에 쌓인 황토펄을 분석한 결과 원래 토양의 pH는 5.52인데 비해 6.43이었고, 유기물과 유효인산이 각각 2.4%, 124ppm으로 비옥도가 높았으며, 식토로 사토인 뽕밭에 객토의 효과가 기대되었다. 4. 침수 뽕밭에 연간 금비 시비량의 30%를 추비한 결과 추기 수량이 무시구 대비 34%의 증수를 보인 것으로 보아, 침수에 의한 실소질의 손실이 일어났던 것으로 추정되었다.

식이 섭취량의 제한과 회복으로 인한 골격근육내 성분변화 (The Changes of Electrolytes Composition in Skeletal Muscles by Food Restriction and Rehabilitation)

  • Fiftysix male weanling rats of the Sprague-Dawley strain weighing $52.6{\pm} 0.9g$ were fed with 77% starch-15% casein diet by ad libitum for four days to get them adapted and divided into eight groups. For three weeks, the body weight gain of rats was controlled in three different ranges. After the period of food restriction, the rats were recovered by being fed by ad libitum for seventeen days. During the experimental period, the amount of food intake and body weight were measured. And the experimental groups were compared when they reached at the same age and at the same body weight. Anterior Tibialis, Extensor Digitorum Longus, Soleus, Plantaris, Gastrocnemius were used as analytic items of skeletal muscle. Wet weight of muscle, muscle protein, water content were measured from each of five skeletal muscles. Sodium, potassium, magnesium content were measured from Anterior Tibialis, Extensor Digitorum Longus, Soleus ana Plantaris. Phosphorus was measured only from Gastrocnemius. The whole carcass protein except the skeletal muscles was also measured. During the period of food restriction, food intake was $311.7{\pm}19.5g$ for the control group. $130.2{\pm}1.5g$ for the second group and $161.7{\pm}2.1g$ for the third group. During the period of food restriction, body weight gain was $106.8{\pm}12.7g$ for the control group, $3.6{\pm}2.1g$ for the second group and $18.9{\pm}3.3g$ for the third group. Comparing the body weight when they reached at the age 66 days, the control group showed higher value than the other groups. In the concentration of electrolytes of skeletal muscles sodium and magnesium tend to increase and potassium and phosphorus tend to decrease by food restriction. But after their recovery, there was no significant difference between the groups. By the degree of food restriction, there was time difference in reaching at the same body weight. But when they reached at the same body weight, there was no significant difference in the value of electrolytes concentration. Regarding all the results of this study, the ages of rats which reached the same body weight were different by food restriction level during weanling. Once food·restricted rats reached the same body weight by recovery, the concentration of electrolytes and protein tend to become almost the same.

질소/인 회수를 위한 Struvite 생성 메커니즘 (Mechanisms on Struvite Production for Nitrogen and Phosphorus Recovery)

  • 폐수내 질소와 인을 이용한 struvite 회수는 수계 부영양화 방지 및 비료자원화에 효과적인 기술이나, 해결해야 할 이론 및 기술적 문제점이 있다. 본 연구에서는, 기존 문헌의 상세한 검토를 통하여, 이론적 측면에서 적절한 반응식 선정 및 이론적 고찰을 이용한 struvite 생성 반응예측 가능성을 논의하고, 기술적 측면에서는 struvite 생성의 대표적인 저해물질인 Ca의 배제를 통해 struvite 결정의 순도를 높일 수 있는 효과적인 방법을 소개하려 한다. 반응예측 측면에서는 중성~염기성 pH 영역에서 효과적인 struvite 반응식 및 반응계수를 이용, 정량적 모델을 구축할 수 있다. 이러한 모델은 실제 회분식 실험결과와 잘 일치하며 특히 이온들의 charge balance도 함께 고려하여 struvite 생성시 희석된 수용액에서 흔히 동반되는 pH 저하를 합리적으로 예측할 수 있다. 한편, Ca의 배제를 통한 struvite 순도 향상은 ${HPO_4}^{2-}-P$ 대비 고농도의 ${NH_4}^+-N$을 조성하여 해결할 수 있는데, 이는 고농도 암모늄 이온의 존재가 struvite 생성 관련 열역학적 구동력을 강화시켜 인산염이 Ca 대신 고농도 암모니아와 용이하게 반응하여 struvite 생성에 유리한 이온환경을 조성하기 때문이다. 즉 인산염이 $Ca^{2+}$과 빠르게 반응하여 이미 침전물이 형성하였을지라도, 고동도 암모늄으로 인한 열역학적 구동력으로 인산-칼슘 침전물이 재용해 되어 struvite를 생성시킬 수 있다.

산수유(山茱萸)와 보골지(補骨脂) 복합추출물의 Sprague-Dawley 랫드를 이용한 13 주 반복경구투여 독성시험 및 4 주 회복시험 (A 13-Week Repeated Oral Dose Toxicity Test and a 4-Week Recovery Test of Standardized Cornus officinalis and Psoralea corylifolia L . in Sprague-Dawley Rats)

  • Objectives : In the current study, we performed the 13-week repeated oral dose toxicity test and a 4-week recovery test of standardized Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc. and Psoralea corylifolia L. 30 % ethanol extract (SCP) in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats owing to aims for verifying no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL). Methods : The animal study was performed according to OECD guidelines for the testing of chemicals section 4 health effects test No.408 repeated dose 90-day oral toxicity study in rodents (03 October 2008). In the repeated dose toxicity study, SCP was orally administered to female and male rats at dose levels of 1,000, 2,000, and 4,000 mg/kg/day for 13-week. The control group and high dose (4,000 mg/kg/day) group were then monitored for 4 extra weeks to determine recovery time after the study period. 1) Results : Compared with the control group, there were no treatment-related adverse effects in clinical signs, body weight, hematology, serum biochemistry (Aspartate aminotransferase, Alanine aminotransferase, Alkaline phosphatase, 𝛾-Glutamyl transpeptidase, Blood urea nitrogen, Creatinine, Glucose, Total cholesterol, Total protein, Creatine phosphokinase, Albumin, Total bilirubin, Triglyceride, Inorganic phosphorus, Albumin/Globulin ratio, Calcium ion, Sodium ion, Potassium ion, Chloride ion), necropsy findings and organ weight (Ovary, Adrenal gland, Pituitary, Thymus, Prostate, Testis, Epididymis, Spleen, Kidney, Heart, Lung, Brain, Liver) at any dose tested. Conclusions : Taken together, these results suggest that the NOAEL of SCP in both genders was considered as over 4,000 mg/kg. Results from this study provide scientific evidence for the safety of SCP.

저농도 황산 용액 및 2-스텝 침출 방법을 이용한 폐LiFePO4 양극재로부터 효율적인 리튬의 선택적 회수 (Efficient Selective Recovery of Lithium from Waste LiFePO4 Cathode Materials using Low Concentration Sulfuric Solution and 2-step Leaching Method)

  • 폐리튬계 이차전지로부터 유가금속을 회수하는 것은 한정된 지구자원의 활용 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 최근 자동차의 전지로 많이 사용하고 있는 LiFePO4 전지 양극재 성분에는 리튬이 약 5.2% 함유되어 있으며, 사용 후 전지에서 리튬 재활용을 통하여 다시 전지의 원료로써 사용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 폐LiFePO4 양극재 분말에 함유된 리튬을 선택적으로 침출하기 위하여 일반적으로 많이 사용하고 있는 무기산의 일종인 저농도 황산을 이용하였다. 그리고 각 성분의 침출율 및 분리효율을 비교·분석을 위하여 침출 시 광액농도를 변수로 2 스텝 침출 공정을 적용하여 최적의 침출조건을 도출하고자 하였다. 광액농도를 변수로 침출 시 철 및 인 성분이 거의 침출되지 않는 200 g/L의 광액농도 조건에서는 타 조건과 분리 효율이 약 200배 이상 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 이에 리튬의 선택적 침출 및 회수에 있어서 침출조건을 최적화하였다.

Diphenyl ethanolamidophosphate의 합성과 면섬유에 대한 방염성 (The Synthesis of Diphenyl ethanolamidophosphate (DPEAP) and the Flame Retardancy of Cotton Fabric)

  • Diphenyl ethanolamidophosphate(DPEAD) was synthesized for the purpose of developing a new flame retardant for cotton fabric. As the intermediate material was used diphenyl chlorophosphate(DPCP) and it was synthesized by using phosphorus oxychloride and phenol as the starting materials. The final product DPEAP was obtained by the reaction of DPCP and ethanolamine. The flame retardancy of cotton fabrics treated by DPEAP through pad-dry-cure(PDC) process was examined at various conditions. The physical property change of the DPEAP treated cotton fabrics were investigated by examining the drape stiffness, the wrinkle recovery, and the tensile strength. The results are summarized as follows: (1) DPEAP has shown excellent flame retardancy on cotton fabrics in comparison to other flame retardants for cotton fabrics available commercially. (2) The optimal condition for PDC process found was that the curing temperature was 16$0^{\circ}C$, the DPEAP concentration was 10%, the catalyst $({NH_{4})_{2}HPO_{4}$ concentration was 7.0%, and the fixing agent hexamethylol melamine (HMM)/DPEAP weight ratio was 1/8. (3) The wrinkle recovery of the processed fabrics increased with increasing DPEAP concentration. (4) The drape stiffness of the cotton fabrics treated by DPEAP have shown essentially no change until increasing DPEAP concentration to 15 %, however DPEAP concentration exceeds 20% the drape stiffness increased drastically with increasing DPEAP concentration. When DPEAP concentration is kept constant the drape stiffness increased with increasing $({NH_{4})_{2}HPO_{4}$ concentration and HMM/DPEAP weight ratio. (5) The tensile strength of the processed fabrics was lower than that of untreated fabrics, but the tensile strength retention increased with increasing DPEAP concentration.

Decomposition and N Release of Hairy Vetch Applied as a Green Manure and its Effects on Rice Yield in Paddy Field

  • Decomposition of green manure is necessary for the nutrient supply in farm soil. Hairy vetch as a green manure is superior to other winter legumes in terms of wintering ability and N accumulation. This experiment was carried out to investigate the decomposition and N release of hairy vetch and its effect on rice production as the following crop in paddy field. Decomposition of hairy vetch placed by soil depth of 0, 10 and 20cm at transplanting time was investigated by mesh bag method, which was enclosed chopped residue in mesh bags. The fate of $^{15}$ N derived from $^{15}$ N-labeled hairy vetch was investigated at harvest in three levels of N fertilization. Grain yield of the transplanted paddy rice cultured with hairy vetch as starter N were compared with that of applying urea as starter N in the field. Hairy vetch residue decomposed very rapidly both in transplanted and dry-seeded paddy field. In transplanted paddy field, hairy vetch residue lost 72-81 % and 86-90% of its weight after one and five month, respectively, as affected by incorporation depth. The C/N ratio of the decomposing vetch residue increased sharply during the early stages and after then, decreased slowly. The amounts of N and P released from the vetch were about 90% and 97% of initial content after one month, respectively. Recoveries of hairy vetch-$^{15}$ N by rice plant were 30.6, 34.6 and 35.7% in 0, 6 and 12 kg urea-N 10 $a^{-l}$ application, respectively, indicating that N fertilization increased the recovery of hairy vetch. $^{15}$ N. Hairy vetch residue incorporated as starter maintained significant N $H_4$$^{+}$-N concentration in soil water of plow layer until effective tillering stage. Grain yield in the plot applied with hairy vetch was not significantly different from that in the plot with urea. We concluded that hairy vetch incorporation could substitute starter N fertilization and showed possibility to reduce N amount of top-dressing.g.g.

Evaluation of the efficiency of cleaning method in direct contact membrane distillation of digested livestock wastewater

  • This study investigated effects of physical and chemical cleaning methods on the initial flux recovery of fouled membrane in membrane distillation process. A laboratory scale direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) experiment was performed to treat digested livestock wastewater with 3.89 mg/L suspended solids, 874.7 mg/L COD, 543.7 mg/L nitrogen, 15.6 mg/L total phosphorus, and pH of 8.6. A hydrophobic PVDF membrane with an average pore size of $0.22{\mu}m$ and a porosity of 75 % was installed inside a direct contact type membrane distillation module. The temperature difference between feed and permeate side was maintained at $40^{\circ}C$ with the feed and permeate stream velocity of 0.18 m/s. The results showed that the permeate flux decreased from $22.1L{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}hr^{-1}$ to $19.0L{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}hr^{-1}$ after 75 hours of distillation. The fouled membrane was cleaned first by physical flushing and consecutively by chemicals with NaOCl and citric acid. After the physical cleaning the flux was recovered to 92 % as compared with the initial clean water flux of the virgin membrane. Then 94 % of the flux was recovered after cleaning by 2,000 ppm NaOCl for 90 minutes and finally 97 % of flux recovered after 3 % citric acid for 90 minutes. SEM-EDS and FT-IR analysis results presented that the foulants on the membrane surface were removed effectively after each cleaning step. The contact angle measurement showed that the hydrophobicity of the membrane surface was also restored gradually after each cleaning step to reach nearly the same hydrophobicity level as the virgin membrane.

Nutritional condition in the dry period is related to the incidence of postpartum subclinical endometritis in dairy cattle

  • Objective: Endometritis is a major disease, that causes infertility in cattle, and is usually categorized as clinical or subclinical endometritis (SCE). The nutritional condition during the dry period is important for recovery after the last stage of the lactation period, and for postpartum production and reproduction. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between nutritional and metabolic characteristics in the dry period, and the risk of postpartum SCE. Methods: Multiparous Holstein dairy cows (n = 25, raised in a tied stall) were used. Endometrial cytological analysis was performed around 30 days post-partum, with 5% to 14% polymorphonuclear (PMN) as a cut-off point to define SCE. Serum levels of glucose, non-esterified fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA), blood urea nitrogen, total cholesterol, aspartate aminotransferase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium were measured in the cows at the dry period to evaluate energy status, protein metabolism, and mineral metabolism. Results: The incidence of SCE in the cows was 60.0% (n = 15/25) and the mean PMN% in postpartum cows diagnosed as SCE was 8.05%±2.6%. Overall, 17 and 8 samples were collected from the cows in the far-off and close-up periods, respectively. The serum concentration of BHBA in the far-off period and serum glucose concentration in the closeup period were correlated with postpartum PMN% (r = 0.62, p<0.01; r = -0.74, p<0.05, respectively). Serum levels of calcium and magnesium in the dry period were associated with the incidence of postpartum SCE (healthy vs SCE cows, p<0.05). Conclusion: Blood levels of glucose, BHBA, calcium, and magnesium in dry periods could be useful parameters for predicting the risk of postpartum SCE. The present study also suggests that management in the close-up period is essential for promoting recovery from calving fatigue.
