Ethical Values Reflected on Zakat and CSR: Indonesian Sharia Banking Financial Performance

  • The objective of this study is to identify the effects of ethical values reflected on zakat and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on the financial performance of sharia banking in Indonesia. This study contributes to the Indonesia Financial Service Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) policies concerning the need for implementing ethical values in sharia banking and other sharia financial entities based on the philanthropic model, this study posits that firms undertaking zakat and charity are ethical firms. The population of this study is 8 sharia banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2014-2018. The result of the study showed that zakat disclosure significantly affected financial performance. Moreover, ethical values that were proxied by CSR disclosure did not significantly affect financial performance. The limitation of the study is the limited number of the sample; therefore, it is expected that the future research adds other sharia financial entities and adds the dimension of management, sustainability, product, and the environment as benchmarks of ethical values. The originality of this study offers an additional explanation of the relationship between ethical values and performance by investigating zakat and CSR disclosure which is a unique factor in Indonesia.

  • Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is the basic strategy for enterprises to obtain competitive advantages, and reflects the most basic value orientation and development concept of enterprises. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between corporate culture, innovation ability and core competitiveness of enterprises from the perspective of corporate social responsibility, and to establish a model and analyze the survey data of 32 agricultural science and technology enterprises in Tianjin by using SPSS23.0. As a result of the study, we found that corporate social responsibility (Ethical responsibility, Philanthropic responsibility) has a significant positive impact on corporate culture and innovation ability, corporate culture has a significant positive impact on innovation ability and corporate core competitiveness, and innovation ability has a significant positive impact on corporate core competitiveness. Therefore, it is suggested that agricultural science and technology enterprises should fulfill their social responsibilities, form a unique corporate culture, serve agriculture with science and technology, and constantly improve the ability of agricultural science and technology innovation, so as to enhance the core competitiveness of enterprises.

  • This study tries to understand the CSR Activities of Airline on Brand Awareness and Brand Loyalty. Within the last year, online surveys were conducted on consumers with experience in air travel. The empirical survey was conducted between Feb 11 and Feb 25, 2020, and 220 valid questionnaires were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, CSR Activities of Airline was divided into Economic Responsibility, Legal Responsibility, Ethical Responsibility and Philanthropic Responsibility according to the literature review. Analysis showed that CSR Activities of Airline has effect on Brand Awareness accordingly. Second, CSR Activities of Airline has effects Brand Loyalty. Third, Brand Awareness has effects Brand Loyalty. The findings has significant implications for CSR Activities of Airline, Brand Awareness, Brand Loyalty and academic researchers. This research has several implications such as CSR Activities of Airline should be preceded in order to enhance brand Awareness and strengthen Brand Loyalty.

  • This study examines whether CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities of the public sector affect on its corporate evaluation in their perspective of consumers. Both public and private sectors are being encouraged to conduct the CSR activities in the four dimensions of economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibility. While many previous studies have examined the relationship between CSR and corporate's business performance, these studies focus on the private companies, not the public sector. In this paper, we offer a consumer-side study about the effect of CSR on the corporate evaluation on the public sector. The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of fit of CSR activity, perceived engagement, and perceived authenticity on the consumer's corporate evaluation of the public sector. We conducted two quasi-experiments involving 223 respondents using the actual CSR cases of two Korean public sectors. As a result, consumer's perception of engagement and authenticity about the CSR of public sector affects the corporate evaluation in a positive way. The 3-way interaction effect among fit of CSR activity, perceived engagement, and perceived authenticity was significant in corporate evaluation. To achieve successful CSR of the public sector, the public organizations need to increase the communication with their consumers and to implement the strategic CSR activities which can improve the consumer's perception of authenticity about CSR.

The Effects of Corporate Social Responsibility on Customer Satisfaction and Customer Citizenship Behavior: Mediating Effects of Company Image and CSV (기업의 사회적 책임이 고객만족과 고객시민행동에 미치는 영향: 기업이미지와 CSV의 매개효과)

  • This study examined the effects of CSR characteristics on company image, CSV, customer satisfaction, customer citizenship behavior for customers using mobile phones of Samsung, LG, Apple, and Pantech in domestic market. 213 questionnaire samples are used to test 10 hypotheses using structural equation model with AMOS. Results of testing are as follows: First, economic responsibilities, law-ethical responsibilities and philanthropic responsibilities factors of CSR influence positively to company image. Second, economic responsibilities does not influence to CSV. Third, company image influence positively to customer satisfaction and customer citizenship behavior, but CSV does not influence to customer satisfaction This study shows that CSR, company image, CSV are important for customers' increasing customer satisfaction and customer citizenship behavior. Implications and limitations of this study also suggested.

  • The purchasing behavior of consumers is related to service quality and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Therefore, CSR is recognized as an important factor in company strategies. This study determines the relationship between the CSR activities of KORAIL and the reuse intention and recommendation intention of the consumer. CSR is composed of economic, legal, philanthropic, ethical, and environmental responsibilities. In the results of the structural equation modeling analyses, legal responsibility and economic reliability affect the reliability of KORAIL and this reliability affects the customers' reliability and loyalty. This paper proposes a compliance program, wagon safety information, customized tour packages, and communication strategy that will increase customer's reliability and loyalty.

Exploring the Effect of Users' Integrated Estimates of Telecommunication Companies' CSR and Service Quality on Company Preference and Intention to Subscribe Telecommunication Services (통신기업 CSR에 대한 이용자의 통합적 평가와 서비스 품질 평가가 통신기업 선호도와 서비스 가입의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study explored the relationship between users' integrated estimates (motivation, activity, & performance) of telecommunication companies' CSR & service qualities and their preference and intention to subscribe telecommunication services. The data were collected from 637 college students for understanding the relationship among variables in KT and SKT. The result indicates that social benefit motivation, legal/moral activity, and social performance of the integrated CSR estimates affected their preference. The estimate of philanthropic activity, however, was not significantly affected on preference. On intention to take telecommunication services toward KT and SKT, the estimate of social performance was only a significant variable in KT and legal/moral activity and social performance were statistically significant in SKT. Generally, the estimate of service quality was the most affective factor toward telecommunication preference and intention to subscribe its services.

The Effects of Corporate Social Responsibility on Company Image and Customer Citizenship Behavior: Focused on Japanese Students (기업의 사회적 책임이 기업이미지 및 고객시민행동에 미치는 영향: 일본 대학생 대상으로)

  • The purpose of this study examines the effects of corporate CSR on corporate image, customer satisfaction, and customer citizenship behavior in order to provide implications for CSR. To verify hypotheses, we conducted a questionnaire survey on university students using Apple, Sony, Sharp, and Kyocera mobile phones, and used structural equation model analysis for 294 units. As a result, four factors, economic responsibility, legal responsibility, ethical responsibility and philanthropic responsibility were derived from corporate social responsibility, and all three factors except for ethical responsibility factors were proved to have a positive effect on corporate image. In addition, corporate image has a positive effect on customer satisfaction and customer civic behavior. As an implication, Japanese companies will need to take a systematic approach to CSR to help them understand their CSR and improve the level of CSR they can sympathize with.

A Study of Corporate CSR Effects on Corporate Crisis Management

  • Purpose: In modern corporate management, the establishment of a crisis management system that minimizes damage through measures used to respond to corporate crises is no longer an option. The importance of corporate reputation and brand asset management in modern enterprise management cannot be overemphasized and negative events that might arise from a number of different causes can cause brand crises. Research design, data and methodology: More than half of the questionnaire respondents were female (252 or 53%). More than a fourth of the respondents were aged 20 (122 or 26%) and the number of married participants was 196 (41%). Of the participants, 32% (153) had graduated from college. Only 18% (87) were employees and the monthly household income was 121. In this study, we conducted factor analysis in order to extract the variables that may enhance the explanation capability of each variable. For the method of factor extraction, an Eigen value of at least 1 was used as was factor loading. An analysis was performed using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient to verify the reliability of the measurement scale. Results: First, the analysis of the impact of the social responsibility activities on brand image revealed that the social, economic, philanthropic, ethical, and environmental responsibility activities significantly affected brand image, but legal responsibility activities were not statistically significant. Second, the analysis of the impact of brand image on loyalty showed that brand image had a significant impact on loyalty. Third, the analysis of the impact of social responsibility activities on loyalty showed that they had a significant impact on loyalty. Conclusions: The pro-social enterprise image is not only a brand asset that can be shared, but also a heavy proposition followed by a corresponding social responsibility, it will have to practice transparent corporate management based on clear principles through the establishment of various systems and the implementation of a strict code of conduct within the enterprise.

The effect of CSR components on customer satisfaction and customer civic behavior through corporate image (CSR 구성요인이 기업이미지를 통해 고객만족과 고객시민행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the current status and implications of companies in relation to the nature of CSR based on the theoretical background of corporate social responsibility (CSR). For consumers using mobile phones from Samsung, LG, and Apple, the impact of CSR components on corporate image, customer satisfaction, and customer citizenship behavior was analyzed. Economic responsibility, ethical responsibility, and philanthropic responsibility all have positive effects on corporate image. However, it was found that legal responsibility did not pay attention to the corporate image. And the corporate image was found to have a positive (+) effect on customer satisfaction and customer citizenship behavior. The results of this study suggest that companies need to devise a systematic CSR education system for their stakeholders.
