  • This paper predicted the thermal conductivity of spun carbon/phenolic composites by the thermal resistance method. This method uses the analogy between the diffusion of heat and electrical charge. To verify the theoretical predictions, the thermal conductivity of spun carbon/phenolic composites was examined experimentally. The reported thermal conductivities of graphite/epoxy composite of a eight harness satin laminate was used of the comparison with the prediction values of the model and it was noticed that a good agreement has been found.

  • The free phenolic fraction from Korean white ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) was studied by GLC/MS as trimethylsilyl and methyl derivative. Five phenolic compounds such as 2,6-ditert butyl p-crestal, phloroglucinol, protocatechuic acid, isoferulic acid, quinic acid were identified newly. And additionally 13 organic acids and hydrocarbons were also identified in the fraction.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the thermal conductivity of a carbon/phenolic 8-harness woven composite. An experiment apparatus and procedure developed in the previous study were used to measure the thermal conductivities. This method compares the temperature difference between a reference specimen with a known thermal conductivity and the test sample specimen in a steady-state condition.

  • Friction characteristics of automotive friction materials according to the types of phenolic resin were investigated by using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Four different simplified friction materials bound with Bakelite$^{TM}$ and Xylok$^{TM}$ phenolic resin were studied in this work. Two different modes of drag test(constant initial temperature test and constant interval test) were employed to analyze the effects of the binders on friction characteristics. Friction materials containing modified Xylok$^{TM}$ resin showed good heat resistance and friction stability. The results also showed that aramid fiber played important roles in improving friction stability and weard wear

  • Salicornia herbacea is rich in natural minerals, dietary fibers, and potentially health-promoting phenolic compounds. In this paper, an experimental design was applied for the optimization of the ultrasound-assisted extraction of phenolic compounds from lyophilized Salicornia herbacea powder. The experiments were conducted in accordance with a five-level, three-variable central composite rotatable design (CCRD), and the effects of solvent concentration, extraction time, and extraction temperature were evaluated via response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal extraction conditions were as follows: ethanol concentration, 76.80%; extraction time, 20 min; and extraction temperature, $33.21^{\circ}C$; and the solvent concentration was the most significant parameter in this process, under which the predicted total phenolic content was 49.91 mg GAE/g sample.
