  • This paper presents the integrated magnetic circuit designing method for phase shift full bridge(PSFB) converter. The integrated magnetic circuit is implemented on redesigned of EI core. The transformer windings are located on center leg and the two inductors are located on the outer legs with air gap. Based on the equivalent circuit model, the principle of operation of the PSFB converter is explained. The operation and performance of the proposed circuit are verified on a 1.2 kW prototype converter. The analysis and design of the integrated magnetic circuit is verified through the experimental and simulation results.

  • In the battery based applications such as electric vehicle and energy storage system, the performance of the system highly depends on the reliability of the battery. However, it is difficult to obtain the accurate information about the state-of-health (SOH) of battery during its operation. In this paper a 3kw battery charger with battery diagnosis function which can estimate the SOH of the battery by using online impedance spectroscopy technique is introduced. For the charger phase shift full bridge converter with synchronous rectification has been adopted to implement the charge and diagnosis functions. The impedance spectroscopy is performed after the charge to obtain the information about the internal impedance of the battery module, hence the SOH can be estimated online by observing the impedance variation of the battery over time. All the design procedure of the proposed charger is detailed and the feasibility of the system is verified by the experimental results.

  • Arc lamps are now widely utilized as illumination sources for a large number of investigations in wide-field fluorescence microscopy. Among many power converters for the lamp, the PSFB (Phase-Shift Full-Bridge) converter with the ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) is the most widely used soft switched circuit in high-power applications. Also, in the most luminaries, the power factor has to be more and more important. Thus, the power factor correction(PFC) must be included in the power system. A new igniter module using the switching power device and the transformer is proposed instead of the conventional igniter using the mechanical contactor. The proposed converter with the high power factor and high efficiency is verified through the experimental works.

  • A new phase shift full bridge converter(PSFB) with serially connected two transformers is proposed. It is well suited for applications in the communication equipment of a few hundred watts. The main features of the proposed converter are a wide input voltage range, an easiness to meet the requirement for zero voltage switching (ZVS) condition at a light load, and a small output voltage ripple. Furthermore, it features high power density since serially connected two transformers can replace both a main transformer and an output inductor. A mode analysis and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed converter.

  • This paper presents a Zero-Current Switching(ZCS) two-transformer phase-shift full-bridge(TTFB) converter using voltage ripple. The proposed converter provides Zero-Voltage Switching(2VS) of leading leg switches and ZCS of lagging leg switches using volt-age ripple. Especially, circulating current Is reduced by ZCS operation and there are no additional components required for the soft switching of power switches. Furthermore, in case of light load, ZVS operation of lagging leg can be achieved. The operations, analysis and design consideration of proposed converter are presented. To verify the validity of the proposed converter, experimental results for a flow (205V, 2A) prototype are presented.

A Controller Design for a Stability Improvement of an On-Board Battery Charger

  • This paper proposes the controller design for a stability improvement of an on-board battery charger. The system is comprised of a power factor correction (PFC) circuit and phase shift full-bridge DC-DC converter. The PFC circuit performs the control of the DC-link voltage and the input power factor. The DC-DC converter regulates the voltage and the current in the battery using the DC-link voltage. This paper proposes the design method of PI controller for the PFC circuit using a small signal model. The analysis and design of a type-three controller for the DC-DC converter is also presented. A simulation and experiment has been performed on the on-board battery charger and their results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed system.

  • 본 논문은 전기자동차 (Electric Vehicles, EVs)용 리튬 이온 (Li-Ion) 배터리의 충전 및 충전 속도 향상을 위하여 6.6kW급 고전력 탑재형 충전기 (On-Board Charger, OBC)를 설계한다. 높은 부하 가변범위와 차량 실장 특성을 고려하여 가용 가능한 토폴로지들 중 최적의 토폴로지로 위상천이 풀-브릿지 컨버터 (Phase-Shift Full-Bridge, PSFB)를 제안하고 타당성을 밝힌다. 또한 토폴로지를 구동하는 스위칭 주파수와 주요 수동소자의 변화에 따른 부피와 효율 등의 Trade-Off 관계를 이론적으로 전개하여 최적화한다.

  • Recently, there is an increasing demand for efficient high power/weight auxiliary power supplies for use on high speed traction application. many new conversion techniques have been proposed to reduce the voltage and current stress of switching components, and the switching losses in the traditional pulse width modulation(PWM) converter. Among them, the phase shift full bridge zero voltage switching PWM techniques are thought most desirable for many applications because this topology permits all switching devices to operate under zero voltage switching(ZVS) by using circuit parasitic components such as leakage inductance of high frequency transformer and power device junction capacitance. The proposed topology is found to have higher efficiency than conventional soft-switching converter. Also it is easily applicable to phase shift full bridge converter by applying an energy recovery snubber consisted of fast recovery diodes and capacitors.

A Novel Soft-Switching Full-Bridge PWM Converter with an Energy Recovery Circuit

  • This paper proposes a new phase-shift full-bridge DC-DC converter by applying energy recovery circuits to a conventional full-bridge DC-DC converter in plasma display panel applications. The converter can achieve soft-switching in main-switches by an extra auxiliary resonant network even with the wide operating condition of both output load and input voltage. The un-coupled design guidelines to the main bridge-leg component parameters for soft-switching operation contribute to conduction loss reduction in the transformer primary side leading to efficiency improvement. The auxiliary switches in the resonant network also operate in zero-current switching. This paper analyzes the operation modes of the proposed scheme and presents the key design guidelines through steady state analysis. Also, the paper verifies the validity of the circuits by hardware experiments with a 1kW DC/DC converter prototype.

  • 기존의 컨버터에서 널리 사용되는 위상천이 풀브리지 컨버터(Phase-Shifted Full-Bridge Converter) 경우 입력 전원 변화에 출력 전압의 변동이 있는 경우 듀티 변화에 따른 Freewheeling 구간이 존재하게 되며 효율을 감소시키는 요인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 고효율을 요구하는 ESS 시스템에서 컨버터/인버터의 효율 향상 방안을 제시한다. Freewheeling 구간에서 ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) 실패문제를 해결하기 위한 듀티 제어 기법을 사용하여 구현하였으며 실험 결과 효율을 향상시켰다.
