This study investigates the problem of phase change from liquid to solid in the inviscid stagnation flow. The solution of dimensionless governing equations is determined by the three dimensionless parameters of (temperature ratio/conductivity ratio), Stefan number, and diffusi-vity ratio. The solution at the initial stage of freezing is obtained by expanding it in powers of time, and the final equilibrium state is determined from the steady-state governing equations. The equilibrium state is dependent on (temperature ratio/conductivity ratio), but is independent of Stefan number and diffusivity ratio. The effect of fluid flow on the pure conduction problem can be clearly seen from the solution of the initial stage and the final equilibrium state, and the characteristics of the solidification process for all the dimensionless parameters are elucidated.

A regional economy is characterized as a spatial economy. However the literature shows that it has been treated as a point economy since space is little recognized in regional modeling due to mathematical complication. This leads to the fact that regional model does not sufficiently represent regional characteristic. This paper attempts to construct a regional growth model in a partial equilibrium framework specifically taking into consideration land as a primary factor. The model is formulated largely neoclassical. Labor is assumed to move in response to differences in the wage rate, while capital is perfectly mobile across regions. The paper shows that two growth equilibrium points exist, one stable equilibrium point and the other unstable equilibrium point. The unstable growth equilibrium indicates the existence of minimum threshold that a region must overcome the minimum threshold to grow constantly. Consequently, directions of regional growth are characterized by two growth paths depending on the initial condition of a region. That is to say, a region below the minimum threshold is converging toward the lower stable equilibrium point over time. When a regional economy initially lies above the minimum threshold, it will grow forever. A regional economy is not thus necessarily converging a stationary is not thus necessarily converging a stationary equilibrium point through factor movement. Finally, the impacts of the presence of agglomeration economies and diseconomies are analyzed through the phase diagram. The paper also shows that agglomeration economies result in lowering the minimum threshold and in escalating the level of stable equilibrium However, when agglomeration diseconomies prevail, the results are opposite, i.e., rising the minimum threshold of growth and lowering the growth level of stable equilibrium.
Recovery of aromatics in extract phase which was obtained by batch equilibrium extraction between light cycle oil(LCO) and dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO) solution as solvent was investigated by re-extraction. To select the most suitable re-extraction solvent for recovery of aromatics in extract phase, distribution equilibrium was measured between extract phase and solvents. The solvents used were benzene(B), toluene(T), m-Xylene(mX), n-hexane(Hx) and n-hexane(Hx) and n-Octane(Ot). From the distribution coefficients and yields of aromatics, Hx seemed to be the most suitable. Furthermore, effects of operation parameters for re-extraction of aromatics in the extract phase were studied by batch equilibrium re-extracion with Hx as solvent. Yields of aromatics were found to increase with increasing solvent/feed (extract phase) mass ratio(S/F), while distribution coefficients of aromatics were fixed irrespective of S/F used. Operating temperature did not affect distribution coefficients and yields of aromatics. Distibution coefficients and yields of naphthalene group(carbon numer : 10~12) increased with increasing cabon number. Mass transfer rates of aromatics were also measured with a batch stirred vessel.
The adsorption equilibrium data for the binary gas mixture system from the pure gas adsorption data of carbon dioxide and ethylene on ZSM-5 prepared were predicted. The binary gas mixture adsorption data have been examined against predicted values by two models-the vacancy solution model(VSM) and the statistical thermodynamic model(STM), using parameters obtained from the single component isotherm. The binary gas mixture data for the carbon dioxide-ethylene system were obtained for cation exchanged forms of ZSM-5 for the gas phase carbon dioxide mole fraction of 0.752 at $37^{\circ}C$ and 1 atm. The experimental adsorption phase diagrams were obtained for carbon dioxide-ethylene on sodium form ZSM-5 synthesized. The single component adsorption isotherms for carbon dioxide and ethylene were also obtained for this zeolite. The single component data were used to obtain parameters derived in two models. These parameters were, in turn, used to predict the binary mixture isotherms for this zeolite. Both the vacancy solution and the statistical thermodynamic models give satisfactory predictions of adsorption phase diagrams for the binary gas mixtures of carbon dioxide and ethylene on sodium exchanged ZSM-5. Also the correlation between the experimental data and the predicted values is generally in good agreement. The system appears to show ideal behavior with a relatively constant separation factor. The slight increase in adsorption capacity with an increase in ionic radius is due, in part, to the higher polarizability associated with larger cations.

A sequence of visually experimental observations was conducted to investigate the flow boiling and two-phase flow in a coiled tube. Different boiling modes and bubble dynamical evolutions were identified for better recognizing the phenomena and understanding the two-phase flow evolution and heat transfer mechanisms. The dissolved gases and remained vapor would serve as foreign nucleation sites, and together with the effect of buoyancy, centrifugal force and liquid flow, these also induce very different flow boiling nucleation, boiling modes, bubble dynamical behavior, and further the boiling heat transfer performance. Bubbly flow, plug flow, slug flow, stratified/wavy flow and annular flow were observed during the boiling process in the coiled tube. Particularly the effects of flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release in the bends were noted and discussed with the physical understanding. Coupled with the effects of the buoyancy, centrifugal force and inertia or momentum ratio of the two fluids, the flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release effects have critical importance for flow pattern in the bends and flow evolution in next straight sections.
Benzene is one of the most widely used basic materials in the petrochemical industry. Generally, benzene exists as a mixture with alcohols rather than as a pure substance. Further, the alcohols-added mixtures usually exhibit an azeotropic composition. In this context, knowledge of the phase equilibrium behavior of the mixture is essential for its separation and purification. In this study, the vapor-liquid equilibrium data were measured in favor of a recirculating VLE apparatus under constant pressure for the 1 - propanol / benzene system. The measured vapor - liquid equilibrium data were also correlated by using the UNIQUAC and WILSON models and the thermodynamic consistency test based on the Gibbs/Duhem equation was followed. The results of the phase equilibrium experiment revealed RMSEs (Root Mean Square Error) and AADs (Average Absolute Deviation) of less than 0.05 for both models, indicating a good agreement between the experimental value and the calculated value. The results of the thermodynamic consistency test also confirmed through the residual term within ${\pm}0.2$.
In this study, the effect of cosurfactant on the phase equilibrium and dynamic behavior was studied in systems containing NP7 nonionic surfactant solutions and nonpolar hydrocarbon oils. All cosurfactants used during this study such as n-pentanol, n-octanol and n-decanol acted as a hydrophobic additive and thus promoted the transition from an oil in water (O/W) microemulsion (${\mu}E$) in equilibrium with an excess oil phase to a three-phase region containing excess water, excess oil, and a middle-phase microemulsion and further to a water in oil (W/O) ${\mu}E$ in equilibrium with the excess water phase. The transition temperature was found to decrease with both increases in the chain length and amount of addition of a cosurfactant. Dynamic behavior studies under O/W ${\mu}E$ conditions showed that an oil drop size decreased with time due to the solubilization into micelles. On the other hand, both the spontaneous emulsification of water into the oil phase and the expansion of oil drop were observed under W/O ${\mu}E$ conditions because of the diffusion of surfactant and water into the oil phase. Under conditions of a three-phase region including a middle-phase ${\mu}E$, both the rapid solubilization and emulsification of the oil into aqueous solutions were found mainly due to the existence of ultra-low interfacial tension. Dynamic interfacial tension measurements have been found to be in a good agreement with dynamic behavior results.
A preconditioned numerical method for gas-liquid to-phase flow is applied to solve cavitating flow. The present method employs a density based finite-difference method of dual time-stepping integration procedure and Roe's flux difference splitting approximation with MUSCL-TVD scheme. A homogeneous equilibrium cavitation model is used. The method permits simple treatment of the whole gas-liquid two-phase flow field including wave propagation, large density changes and incompressible flow characteristics at low Mach number. By this method, two-dimensional internal flows through a venturi tuve and decelerating cascades are computed and discussed.

As a compressed water is rapidly expanded through a nozzle, two-phase flow of vapor and liquid is formed in the nozzle due to the flash evaporation. In the present study, critical flow of two-phase fluids is analysized using an Isentropic-Homogeneous-Equilibrium model and a Leung model. Calculation results show that the choke of the two-phase flow can be two different types of continuous and discontinuous chokings. For the stagnation pressure below 10 Mpa it is found that the continuous choking, which is similar to the choking phenomenon of single-phase gas flow, is possible only when the degree of subcooling is less than 10K.
The solid phase extractant SAN-D2EHPA/TBP containing two extractants of Di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) and Tri-butyl-phosphate (TBP) was prepared by immobilizing two exractants D2EHPA and TBP in styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN). The prepared SAN-D2EHPA/TBP was characterized by using fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The solid phase extractant SAN-D2EHPA/TBP was tested for the removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solution. Experiments were carried out as a function of the pH and Cu(II) concentration in the aqueous phase. The equilibrium time was 180 min and equilibrium experiment data obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The Langmuir isotherm model represented the experiment data as well. The maximum removal capacity of Cu(II) calculated from Langmuir isotherm model was 3.1 mg/g.
