Oxidation behavior of hot-pressed silicon nitride ceramics with various sintering additives has been investigated. The weight gain of each specimens has shown in the range of 0.11 mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ ~3.4 mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 192 h and eleven compositions have shown good oxidation resistance with the weight gain below 0.5 mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The oxidation rate has been shown to obey the parabolic rate law and the oxidized surface has consisted of $\alpha$-cristobalite and M2Si2O7 or MSiO3 (M=rare earth or transition metals) phase. The oxidation rate of each specimens has related to the eutectic temperature between additive oxide and SiO2, and ionic radius of additive oxides, respectively. From the above results, it could be concluded that the oxidation behavior of hot pressed silicon nitride is dominated by the high temperature properties of grain boundary glassy phase and the high temperature properties of grain boundary glassy phase are affected by the ionic radius of additive oxides.

The two-dimensional pressure distribution, which is the most important parameter in the casting cleaning installations(CCI), was analyzed using the K-FIX computer program for two-phase flow. Modelling was done using R-Z coordinates for the initial and boundary conditions which don't have periodic influx and efflux, and also there was the electric discharge due to high pressure and temperature. The marked particles were introduced to prodict the structure and the size of main and local moving surfaces. The initial and boundary conditions were modified due to the internal structure of CCI.From the results of numerical analysis, it was shown that the maximum pressure on casting was increased with the increase of a water level. The pressure on casting in the radial direction was higher than that in axial direction. Also, it was proved that by introducing the marked particles it was possible to predict the surface structure in case of two-phase flow.
The effects of nitrogen on the deformation behavior of duplex stainless steel have been studied. The variation of strength was correlated with the characteristic microstructures pertaining to nitrogen. Analysis based on Hall-fetch relation confirmed that nitrogen enhances phase-boundary strengthening effect. The evolution of dislocation structure, slip traces and misorientation distribution during deformation were also characterized to elucidate the effect of nitrogen on inelastic deformation mechanism. It has been verified in this study that the higher nitrogen content provides a dual-phase microstructure with smaller strength difference between austenite and ferrite resulting into the earlier transfer of inelastic deformation from austenite to ferrite.
Electrically-induced strain(S) and polarization(P) for Pb(Sc1/2Nb1/2)O3-PbTiO3(1-x)PSN-xPT) crystalline solutions were studied. From the compositional dependence of S and P we could observe two maximum values at x=0.10 and x=0.425. It is considered that PSNT10(x=0.10) composition is the structural phase boundary to indicate the variable order-disorder[VOD] region. PSNT(x=0.425) composition is the morphotropic phase boundary[MPB] to indicate the rhombohedral to tetragonal phase transition. Higher S (0.437%) and P (0.3974$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$) values were attained by the La substitution (5 wt%) at Pb site in the MPB composition of 57.5PSN-42.5PT.

c-BN films were deposited on SKH-51 steels by electron assisted hot filament CVD method and microstructure development was studied processing parameters such as bias voltage, temperature, etching and phase transformation at boundary layer between BN compound and steel to develop a high performance wear resistance tools. A negative bias voltage higher than 200V at substrate temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ and gas pressure of 20 torr in B2H6-NH3-H2 gas system was one of optimum conditions to produce c-BN films on the SKH-51 steels. Thin layer of hexagonal boron nitride phase was observed at the interface between c-BN layer and substrate.
Strengthening mechanisms in an ordered intermetallic compound containing coherent precipitates of lower antiphase boundary energy than the matrix were investigated on the basis of the interaction between the deformation induced dislocations and the disordered precipitates in an $Ll_2$ ordered $Ni_3Al$-based alloy. Extra work was needed to pull out the dislocations from the precipitate, which was dependent on the difference in the antiphase boundary energy between the matrix and the precipitate, as well as the size and volume fraction of the precipitate. The strength of the $Ll_2$ ordered ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phase containing fine precipitates of the disordered ${\gamma}$ phase was examined using the proposed model. The model can explain almost quantitatively the age hardening behavior of the $Ll_2$ ordered ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phase.

This Paper Presents an effective and simple procedure for the simulation of the motion of the solid-liquid interfacial boundary and the transient temperature field during phase change process. To accomplish this purpose, an iterative implicit solution algorithm has been developed by employing the dual reciprocity boundary element method. The dual reciprocity boundary element approach provided in this paper is much simpler than the usual boundary element method applying a reciprocity principle and an available technique for dealing with domain integral of boundary element formulation simultaneously. The effectiveness of the present analysis method have been illustrated through comparisons of the calculation results of an example with its semi-analytical or other numerical solutions where available.

The high-temperature deformation mechanisms of a ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V), near-a titanium alloy (Ti-6.85Al-1.6V) and a single-phase a titanium alloy (Ti-7.0Al-1.5V) were deduced within the framework of inelastic-deformation theory. For this purpose, load relaxation tests were conducted on three alloys at temperatures ranging from 750 to $950^{\circ}C$. The stress-versus-strain rate curves of both alloys were well fitted with inelastic-deformation equations based on grain matrix deformation and grain-boundary sliding. The constitutive analysis revealed that the grain-boundary sliding resistance is higher in the near-${\alpha}$ alloy than in the two-phase ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ alloy due to the difficulties in relaxing stress concentrations at the triple-junction region in the near-${\alpha}$ alloy. In addition, the internal-strength parameter (${\sigma}^*$) of the near-${\alpha}$ alloy was much higher than that of the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ alloy, thus implying that dislocation emission/ slip transfer at ${\alpha}/{\alpha}$ boundaries is more difficult than at ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ boundaries.
Several experimental tests to simulate a reflood phase of a cold-leg LBLOCA of the APR1400 have been performed using the ATLAS facility. This paper describes the related experimental results with respect to the thermal-hydraulic behavior in the core and the system-core interactions during the reflood phase of the cold-leg LBLOCA conditions. The present descriptions will be focused on the LB-CL-09, LB-CL-11, LB-CL-14, and LB-CL-15 tests performed using the ATLAS. The LB-CL-09 is an integral effect test with conservative boundary condition; the LB-CL-11 and -14 are integral effect tests with realistic boundary conditions, and the LB-CL-15 is a separated effect test. The objectives of these tests are to investigate the thermal-hydraulic behavior during an entire reflood phase and to provide reliable experimental data for validating the LBLOCA analysis methodology for the APR1400. The initial and boundary conditions were obtained by applying scaling ratios to the MARS simulation results for the LBLOCA scenario of the APR1400. The ECC water flow rate from the safety injection tanks and the decay heat were simulated from the start of the reflood phase. The simulated core power was controlled to be 1.2 times that of the ANS-73 decay heat curve for LB-CL-09 and 1.02 times that of the ANS-79 decay curve for LB-CL-11, -14, and -15. The simulated ECC water flow rate from the high pressure safety injection pump was 0.32 kg/s. The present experimental data showed that the cladding temperature behavior is closely related to the collapsed water level in the core and the downcomer.
SiAlON glasses are silicates or alumino-silicates, containing Mg, Ca, Y or rare earth (RE) ions as modifiers, in which nitrogen atoms substitute for oxygen atoms in the glass network. These glasses are found as intergranular films and at triple point junctions in silicon nitride ceramics and these grain boundary phases affect their fracture behaviour. This paper provides an overview of the preparation of M-SiAlON glasses and outlines the effects of composition on properties. As nitrogen substitutes for oxygen in SiAlON glasses, increases are observed in glass transition temperatures, viscosities, elastic moduli and microhardness. These property changes are compared with known effects of grain boundary glass chemistry in silicon nitride ceramics. Oxide sintering additives provide conditions for liquid phase sintering, reacting with surface silica on the $Si_3N_4$ particles and some of the nitride to form SiAlON liquid phases which on cooling remain as intergranular glasses. Thermal expansion mismatch between the grain boundary glass and the silicon nitride causes residual stresses in the material which can be determined from bulk SiAlON glass properties. The tensile residual stresses in the glass phase increase with increasing Y:Al ratio and this correlates with increasing fracture toughness as a result of easier debonding at the glass/${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ interface.
